They are in very good condition with some slight nibbles at the edges There is also two small chips to the corners please see all photographs. Two are floral in decoration. It also has the number'3' seperately the letter'Y' The tile displays flowers within geometrical shapes& the colour is best discribed as an orangy brown. The tile probably came from a fireplace surround. It has background crazing& a chip to one corner. The central flowers are a little indistinct. Otherwise there are no cracks. Tiles set of 12 vintage antique victorian edwardian art nouveau? Rare
I wish i could tell you more about these tiles but im no expert.my mum has had these for years in the shed and as she is downsuzing to a barge its time for them to go! There are 12 one has a small chip to one corner but only slight! They obviously have been taken off a fireplace and not cleaned the back plaster/adhesive off. They measure 6x6 and are 1cm think. At a guess i would say victorian but that is truly a guess.they are a sandy brown colour and 2 have discolouration as seen in pics.but hey they are old so i would sat pretty normal condition for the age. They are marked with H.R.J. ENGLAND on the back of the tiles pls see pic. Please study all pics if you are intrested as i do not no any more details and they are in a used condition. 3 Victorian / Edwardian tiles, 2-tile panel, plus one.
I have for sale. A large collection of various antique tiles. I'll be listing them. In the order that they come to hand, over the coming weeks. I generally do my listings on a Sunday- there will be some particularly interesting ones, in future weeks. Just a few in each lot. To stay within Post Office's"Small packet" limits, to keep postal costs down. This will also make it easier to wrap them safely for transit. I'll let the photos do the description. Mostly, but will add any info that isn't obvious. Glazed coloured tiles are best photographed. But scanning is better for pictorials and some other types. Some of the tiles have pencil notes on. From the owner having done some research, as to factory of origin- I'll pass those on, but have no idea if they're right! Tiles are 6" by 6" And about 3/8" ... morethick, unless I say different in the specific description, below- The two tiles that go-together. Are in excellent condition, but with noticeable staining at left and right edges, on the lower tile. These look to be the feature tiles out of a run-of-five, display very well as illustrated in my photos. Moulded, not tube-lined. The other one is flat. Apparently printed outline then coloured-in. Interesting style of drawing. Bit of a crack at top, chip out of edge near top right. Unusual back, DTB" at centre of back. Postal costs £2.80.
