ANTIQUE 17TH / 18TH CENTURY DUTCH DELFT TILE - UNUSUAL HOUSE WITH WELL - FRAMED
ANTIQUE DELFT CASTLE TILE For sale is one beautiful Dutch Delft tile decorated with a house. Well and ships in the background. The tile is framed with a newer Dutch oak tile frame. As often occurs with these tiles, there are some chips, and dings mostly covered by the frame. Noticeable outside the frame is one chip on the side and a one on the top. There is no maker's mark. The tile measures approximately 5" X 5" and the frame dimensions are 6 1/2" X 6 1/2" I am also selling a similar tile from the same time period under a different listing. Measurements: Tile is approximately 5" X 5" and outer frame dimensions of frame are 6 1/2" X 6 1/2" Age: Based on my research. I believe the tile dates sometime between 1690-1790. Condition: All items are sold"as is" There is glaze crazing. Antique Victorian English Floral Tile Sherwin & Cotton - unusual glaze Lustre ?
Up for auction is a striking Victorian tile. Made by Sherwin& Cotton. The tile has a bold floral pattern across the whole tile surface in a reddish brown colour on a dark background which has a purple colouration but in sections looks almost black. This darker glaze is inconsistent across the tile appearing more purple in nature towards the tile edges. There is a lustrous quality to the glaze when it catches the light. The surface of the tile has a nice glossy finish. It measures approx 6 inches(15 cms) square. See section above for details of condition. Please enlarge photos to see tile in more detail. Unusual Handmade Antique Clay Tile
I have had this tile for many years. It measures 4" x 4 2/16" and is 5/16" thick. There is slight age crackle and a very tiny flake off the bottom left corner that is difficult to see. The glaze almost looks like enamel and is glossy. It is in excellent condition other than what I mentioned. Buyer please pay within 2 days of auction end. Rare unusual Antique English Art Nouveau 6x3 tile #1035 Alfred Meakin & Co.
A rare original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 3" This lustrous and vibrant emerald green tile has three large. Raised, spear-like buds in an unusual khaki colour, with glorious little sky-blue forget-me-not flowers peeping through behind them. Virtually mint condition. When turned to a strong light source, the very slightest of surface rubbing is visible along the extreme upper and lower edges, and even less so to the high central points of two of the buds. Fine background crackle-crazing due to age. The rear is marked: A.M. ENGLAND' 6' and has a rectangular arrangement of 6 raised dots. This tile is from my own collection. Easily postable. The finished parcel will weigh around 550g-650g for a single tile properly bubblewrapped, padded and strongly boxed. A very special original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 6" The design features a very stylized clear sky-blue flower with reflexed petals and swirling. Whiplash khaki-olive leaves against a bright caramel coloured background. This tile is in virtually mint condition. I have struggled to find any faults at all. Being extremely pedantic, I have detected a rub to the raised pattern outline 1/4" long, close to the centre of the tile, but you have to look for it! Unusual Antique English Fire/stand Tile Kite Boy Reg Diamond Simpson 1881 Stoke
Unusual and decorative fire(or more probably for a washstand) tile featuring a little semi naked boy(I think) flying a kite. The tile has the name T A Simpson Stoke on Trent printed to the reverse and also a Registration diamond which dates it to 1881. The tile is in good overall antique condition- some fritting to the edges. A small chip to the back edge of the top, a small nip to the surface(follow boys head diagonally to the tram lines) some wear and scuffing and some shallow pitting to the surface particularly to the lower half. Unusual Antique Minton Hollins Tile Paperweight Fort Bombay India c1905
Unusual little antique pottery paperweight from the tile manufacturers Minton Hollins& Co. Royal cipher to the front and an interesting backstamp indicating that this was probably made as a gift to customers from the sole agents for MH&Co's tiles in the Bombay Presidency in India- Warden& Co Fort Bombay. Also on the back says by special appointment to His Majesty- so almost certainly Edwardian in date- would tie in with the Art Nouveau decoration! Seeing the pics it is obvious that this has seen a lot of use(if not abuse! in its life but still an interesting- and probably quite rare- item for collectors of Minton& Hollins tiles. With reddish-brown centres, in white spade-shaped cartouches on light turquoise stems look just like pairs of jellyfish propelling themselves through water(or is it just me? Not before in this colourway by me and it is a super colourway mostly earth tones but fresh and bright with highly translucent glazes. Other tiles in the group had painted pattern numbers indicating this the fourteenth colourway, I think I've seen two or three and those pale backgrounds and generally weaker colours. A palmette layout design in what I guess is best called renaissance style, great for collectors of majolica and Mintons yet still collectors of art nouveau may appreciate it. Interesting verso. A Campbells grip pattern modified to Mintons. The erased ... morecircular mark where Campbell's compass badge is found, the embossed letters L found on Mintons tiles. The association between the two companies continued well after Campbell's death in 1885, The Campbell Tile Co manufactured the more difficult tiles, Mintons despite its great reputation rarely made anything complicated mostly only doing surface decoration. Up for sale is a really unusual and beautiful antique art nouveau fireplace tile. This subject matter looks like 4 children holding balloons? I've never seen a scene quite like this on a tile of this age. Absolutely guaranteed to be antique and original. It is framed in an original oak frame. The tile measures 6x6 inches and 7 3/8-7 3/8 inches framed. The tile is crazed. There are no chips to the front-2 small chips on the back(one where a small nail holds the tile in the frame) These do not at all show from the front and do not reach to the front of the tile. ITEM DESCRIPTION This auction is for a really attractive antique Minton tile. Dating I would think to c. 1870. Decorated in the Japanese style with cranes and prunus blossom. Has a great deal of the Dr. Christopher Dresser about it. Measures 8 inches in diameter each side. Really good antique condition. A small amount of glaze fritting here and there to the bottom edge.
