Location: Praha 1, Czech Republic RARE Antique J& M.P Bells Glasgow Pottery'Marble' Pattern Chamber Pot– Rare Pattern. Description For auction is a beautiful and very rare ... moreJ& M. P. Bells Glasgow pottery'marble' pattern chamber pot. This beautiful chamber pot measures approx. 22cm in diameter. Approx 14.5cm in height and approx.25cm in length from handle to the lip of the chamber pot. The chamber pot is decorated in a grey marble pattern which seem to have been done before glazing and firing. The chamber pot is heavy and solid. There is a small chip at the base of the chamber pot, this is very old chip as it has aged and discoloured. There are some light patches of crazing over the pot, this can be seen on the underside. The J& M.P. Bells pottery in Glasgow suffered from a major fire and as such may moulds. Templates and other equipment was totally destroyed. Sometime ago researchers dug through the factory remains to try and find what remains they could. This means that may of Bells patterns, styles and pottery was destroyed and lost. After extensive research regarding this'marble' pattern. I have found only one reference towards it. This was in Henry H. Kelly's definitive book'The Glasgow pottery of John and Matthew Perston Bell. This chamber pot was looked at by a Glasgow pottery expert who had never come across this pattern from the Bells factory before. This was backed up by an academic and historian at an Edinburgh museum. They both advised that the only reference to this pattern could be made through Henry H. Kelly's book and that this pattern is a true rarity. Due to my location it could be more than possible that this pattern was a'New' technique or idea that was only made on a few pieces that then went home with employees rather than for sale to the public. This theory was also backed up by expert opinion. This is a beautiful piece of pottery heavy and solid. The grey and white colours are surprisingly modern and would not look out of place in any bathroom I was lucky enough to come

A magnificent example of tile art, this is a Cuenca or Azulejo de Aresta, this technique consists of applying a wood or metal mold to the raw clay, to form raised edges that separeted the various colored enamels. This listing is for Two Vintage/ Antique Framed Spanish( Spain) Tiles Made by Ceramica Santa Ana. San Jorge No 31, Sevilla( Triana) Baring Scenes of Don Quixote. Overall Measurements are about 7 1/4 inches by 7 1/8 inches including frames. I have opened the back of one and added image of the back of the tile for your review. Each tile itself is 1/2 inches in thickness. Has raised concentric circles on back with center baring a logo made up of three characters( E. D, and R) overlapped. It also bares the following inscription in mold(CERAMICA SANTA ANA, San ORGE No 31(TRIANA) SEVILLA) Hand painted in good detail The tile painting is signed"CERAMICA STA ANA. SEVILLA(TRIANA) on face( one upper left and other upper right) Opening the back of tile revealed two chips to lower corners of the tile's face. This is not in view when in frame ... morehence in excellent displayable condition. The Second Tile is again in excellent displayable condition and I will leave the condition report at that as it takes removing 8 nails in order to remove the tile. Something I rather not do more than once. The actual Tile is 5 1/2 inches square. Frames are simple quarter sewn oak. Full of Character. These tiles are hand painted and then glazed over by firing. Amazing large quantity of origanal Tunisian tiles salvaged from the stair risers as seen in pictures of this amazing Spanish house built in 1926 in Beverly Hills California this panel of tiles is being sold as one lot and consist of 126 vintage 4x4 Tunisian tiles and 34 vintage 6x6" Tunisian tiles these tiles have such an array of colors and patterns. There are enough of these tiles to do something with and could even be used as a wall fountain. Benches, around fireplaces, or as stair risers. This auction is for a very attractive Spanish tile by Ceramica Santa Ana. the back also reads: San Jorge No 31(Triana) Sevilla and has a monogram that looks like ERD in the middle. The colors on the hand-painted scene are distinctly Spanish. Though the scene itself seems to have some Dutch Delft influence. A pair of c1900 Spanish cuenca tiles decorated with peacocks. Mounted/set on a wooden board with a simple frame border. May well be marked, but chose not to risk removing the tiles from their mount. Each tile is 10 3/4" x 5 3/8" overall framed dimensions are 11 1/2" square x 1 1/4"h with tiles recessed 1/4" below the top edge of the frame. The thickness of the tiles is a guess, but assuming the mount board is 1/4" or 1/2" thick, the tiles should be around 3/4" or 1/2" not counting the thickness of the mortar. Weighs 4 1/2 lbs.
