Stunning Art Nouveau 5 piece Majolica tile set by Sarreguemines- height 88cm This wonderfully stylish 5 piece tile set would make a superb decorative center piece. It consists of 5 tiles although the 3 central tiles could be used on their own allowing the cornice to be used elsewhere. The cornices could be used to form a shelf if topped with cream tiles. The 3 central tiles all have fixing holes so although it looks like the item has been cemented in the past they can also be screw fixed. The tiles all have moulded decoration in relief. The cornices and middle tile are decorated with tube line flowers and leaves. The base tiles have a cream ground with an Art Nouveau design border. This item will date from late 19th or early 20th century. Although there is some damage to this tile set it still displays well and is very unusual and a rare ... morefind. Condition: This antique set does have a number of chips. One large one to a cornice and another one to the bottom of the left hand tile, a number of smaller ones to the right hand tile outside edge. Other smaller chips and wear to the glaze exist all over. There are other marks and a hairline in the glaze coming from one of the screw holes. Please see photos including extra ones in the listing Size: The 5 tiles combined measure 88cm high by 55cm wide. The cartouche tile is 44cm by 30cm. The base tiles are 56cm x 27.5cm each and the cornice are 55cm by 16cm and 10cm deep. This set is very heavy and will be posted as two separate parcels well packaged. The cornice in one package and flat tiles in the other. Viewing in person is welcome and recommended as is collection in person. Please feel free to ask any questions. Each tile separately has Picadors, matadors and toreadors featured on them. Some are made by Onda and some by Castellon. The signature looks like A. Rico but it is difficult to decipher. A great decorative set of tiles that would grace any kitchen, bathroom, courtyard or bar as coasters. Measurements Each tile measures 6" wide by 8" tall by 0.5" thick. Tile number 1 is signed underglaze: Irene. A wonderful set of 5 tiles of flowers and looks like seed pods on a peachy. Tangerine background.some slip decoration and some applied decoration with a sandy feel. Measure 6" by 6"I cleaned the surface grime off only for fear of damaging the decorations.tiles are numbered in sequence on the back upper left corners in pencil.marks are Pilkington.
