ROGER CAPRON GARRIGUE SERIES"HERBIER" VINTAGE TILE Offered for sale is a rare and unique Roger Capron Garrigue Series tile. These tiles were made by Capron in France. He developed the technique to make these tiles by pressing plants native to southern France into wet clay. Which left a beautifully detailed charred imprint. Garrigue" refers to a special mediterranean scrubland and"Herbier" is a collection of dry plants. This tile is one of a set of 12 which are all up for sale. Each tile is different and unique. No two alike. Some of the tiles have"Roger Capron S.A. MADE IN FRANCE" imprinted on the back. Please check our other auctions. I have listed a picture of all 12 tiles in each auction for reference. France on September 4, 1922. Interested in drawing. He studied Applied Arts in Paris from 1939 to 1943 and worked as an art teacher in 1945. He died on November 8. 2006 leaving behind a considerable body of work that is recognized worldwide. In 1946. Roger Capron moved to Vallauris, where he founded a ceramics workshop known as'l`Atelier Callis' Contributing to the renaissance of ceramics in Vallauris. In 1952. Roger Capron purchased an abandoned pottery in Vallauris and opened a small ceramics factory. With 15 workers. By 1957 he had established a considerable international reputation. In 1980 his factory employed 120 people and during that same decade he reverted to making one-off pieces which were shown internationally. Following an economic crisis. The factory was closed in 1982. Capron made a series of"Herbier" tables in the 1960/70's using these tiles. These can be seen online at different auction houses and are fetching beaucoup d'argent!
