From my collection. In great original condition. This rare set is unset un used. Very very hard to find this way. The tiles are very nice and shiny with no wear at all. One tile has a firing flaw that as you can see does not come through to the top. These are not repaired or restored or anything. These are mint just like the day they were sold 80 years ago. V. RARE ARTS & CRAFTS tile DURER SET by MINTON 1885 A/F
This is the SIXTH(although certainly not least albeit damaged) Of SIX from a wonderful, extremely RARE TO FIND, ARTS& CRAFTS BROWN ON WHITE PRINTED 6" PICTORIAL tiles. I will be listing SIX from a SERIES of TWELVE designs AFTER ALBRECHT DURER. This one depicts FOUR SOLDIERS, in very elaborate LATE MEDIEVAL MILITARY COSTUMES holding SWORDS and SHIELDS. Possibly a little overdressed for the occasion but makes it quite amusing! This fabulous set of 12 was MANUFACTURED in 1885 by MINTONS CHINA WORKS, no.1841, in the Minton pattern book. Albrecht Durer(1471-1528) was a German painter and print maker. Who is well known for his detailed engravings. Condition is cracked and glued. The surface glaze is fantastic. Extremely brilliant, very bright and shiney, would still displays quite nicely until another perfect one comes along. Would look ... morefantastic in any collection of tiles especially for collectors of ARTS& CRAFTS MOVEMENT, PICTORIAL DESIGNS, ALBRECHT DURER, MEDIEVAL COSTUME or simply framed on its own as a BRITISH DECORATIVE ARTS object. Up for selling is a rare vintage Japanese six tile set depicting Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is among the seven wonders of the world. The six tiles are high relief majolica and joined together they form the world famous mausoleum. This tile set is very rare due to its colour combination of pink and gold and presence of a'Cross' at the top of the mausoleum. In our last 15 years of experience we have not seen a set like this. It is for sure a custom made piece and is probably from 1920s- 1930s. This is an Islamic tile set. The tiles are in very good condition with just minor fleabites. Tiles set of 12 vintage antique victorian edwardian art nouveau? Rare
I wish i could tell you more about these tiles but im no expert.my mum has had these for years in the shed and as she is downsuzing to a barge its time for them to go! There are 12 one has a small chip to one corner but only slight! They obviously have been taken off a fireplace and not cleaned the back plaster/adhesive off. They measure 6x6 and are 1cm think. At a guess i would say victorian but that is truly a guess.they are a sandy brown colour and 2 have discolouration as seen in pics.but hey they are old so i would sat pretty normal condition for the age.
