An original Arts& Crafts red lustre tile. Designed by William De Morgan and made at Merton Abbey. Size; 6 inches square. Condition; age wear to lustre. Some crazing, small chip to back edge. No other damage or repairs. Marked to back as shown. Circa 1890s. No reserve. There are no returns for auction items unless i have made a fundamental mistake in my item description. Antique Arts & Crafts Tile De Morgan Manganese Floral Merton Abbey
A 19th century Arts& Crafts William De Morgan Pottery Tile. An Antique earthenware tile from the Merton Abbey location. It was in 1882. When demand for his ceramics increased and De Morgan moved his business to larger premises; close to William Morris’s at Merton Abbey. He again moved in 1888 for the last time. To Sands End(Fulham) Earthenware tile with a beautiful floral design of pinks and greens. The back has an impressed stamp W De Morgan Merton Abbey. This is in very good condition, no chips or cracks, but some glaze and color loss on the very edge in one spot and a tiny flake on one of the back edges. There is also some crazing in the glaze. Lovely William De Morgan 8" Persian Style/Influenced Leaf Tile Merton Abbey Mark
A lovely example of an 8" William De Morgan Persian style leaf tile.Dating from the Merton Abbey period,1882-1888,for a similar example please see William De Morgan Tiles by Jon Catleugh page 173,plate 269,taken from an original William De Morgan drawing of which is now in the Victoria and Albert museum archive. Condition for its age is good but it does have nibbles to corners and edges so please view images closely to form your own opinion.A nice addition to anyone's collection and a tile that does not come up very often. Stunning William De Morgan 8" Double Carnation Tile in Blue Merton Abbey Mark.
Here we have a stunning 8 inch William De Morgan Double Carnation tile in Blue dating from the Merton Abbey period 1882-1888.Please see William de Morgan tiles by Jon Catleugh page 81.Plate 90 for a similar example. This is a big chunk of a tile and I have photographed it next to a 6" stylised BBB.Of which will be listed separately,to show its huge proportions. Condition is very good for its age the glaze is superb and much better than the images.Although it does have the odd chips around the edges so please view the images to make your own judgement.
