VICTORIAN MINTON TILE A wonderful 19th Century Minton Encaustic Tile with an unusual Fleur de Lys design. Displays well but there is some surface wear and chipping and nibbling to edges. See photos. Description This is a very attractive Victorian Minton& Co. 8" tile. It is decorated in black and buff in a Gothic pattern of Fleur de Lys. It dates to the Pugin era. Around 1875. It has been washed over in black on the reverse but the makers mark"Minton& Co. Patent Stoke upon Trent" under the wash. The Tile has some small chips to the surface on the edges, commensurate with age and use. There is a small paper label attached with the number"140" I don't know if this is a reference number for someone's collection or if it has other significance so have not removed it. Victorian William Godwin Encaustic Fleur de Lys Gothic Revival Tile C1865
Description This is a very attractive heavy Victorian encaustic floor tile made by William Godwin of Lugwardine. Hereford,the makers name is on the back. It is decorated in yellow and brown with a stylized gothic revival Fleur de Lys pattern, it dates to around 1865. The Tile has 5 chips to the surface, all on the edge, some are quite small.There is a faint glazing crack running from the rim to the centre which does not go through the tile to the other side and some small scratches to the top surface commensurate with age and wear. Seen in many colourways this one of the extremes, gilded on a white ground. From a fireplace and poor condition but amazing it survived at all, one of the group had was dated 1875 presumably the date of installation of the fireplace. Rare Mintons verso, I've seen it less than a couple of dozen times. Poor condition. Broken and repaired, bruise line- might clean out, gilding is excellent, repaired with PVA so easily reversible if a proper restoration job is considered, worth it for such a rare tile. Exceedingly few Mintons tiles are just gilded without printing, ... moreand they are rare too, great to have one as an example of the art. DOULTON MILE END `FLEUR DE LYS AND TUDOR ROSE` TILE ON MINTON BLANK TILE
This tile has a design showing a central Fleur de Lys surrounded by Tudor Roses. The tile was manufactured by Minton Stoke on Trent but the decoration was done my Doulton. Vintage Antique US Encaustic Tile Co Indianapolis Indiana Fleur De Lys
For your consideration is this antique"THE UNITED STATES ENCAUSTIC TILE CO INDIANAPOLIS INDIANA" tile. The company was in operation from 1877- 1937. The tile itself measures 6 1/8" square and is 10" with the professionally done hardwood frame. The tile shows no cracks or damage with the exception of what may be a small flea bite which can be seen in the upper left outer edge of the ring design. The glaze is bright and light crazing can be seen in the white glaze of this early tile. The tile comes to you estate fresh. Shipping quoted is to a street address in the lower 48 states. Thank You!
