Antique Victorian Ceramic Art Tile Colombia Encaustic Tile Co. Anderson Indiana
Victorian art tile made by the Columbia Encaustic Tile Co. of Anderson.Indiana.Marked on the back. This tile measures 4-1/4" x 4-1/4" x 1/2" thick. Central flower with botanicals in a mint green and ochre glaze. Columbia tiles do not come up for sale very often and the"encaustic" part of their name may mean that that is what they primarily produced-unglazed encaustic tiles.This tile has a"hole" at the bottom right. It was a very dark spot that I ran underwater and it slowly dissolved and left this mark. No doubt a piece of organic material that made it's way onto the surface of the tileduring production and burned into the tile. A few other chips on the right side as seen in photos as well as a few edge indents that are factory done and glazed over. A scarce tile nonetheless! Art Deco Terra Cotta Brick Facade Tile Chicago Northwestern Terra Cotta Co
Offered for auction is a great vintage piece of Chicago history. This fabulous tile façade brick was made by the Northwestern Terra Cotta Co in the 1920’s. This company provided terra cotta bricks and tiles for many of the famous architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Sullivan. Many of the landmark buildings in Chicago have decorative elements provided by this company. The brick is classic Art Deco with a fabulous incised design. It is glazed a red terra cotta color with flecks of black and gray. The tile is in very good condition. It has minor scrapes here and there with a larger chip on the underside bottom corner that would not be visible with installation. It measures 10 inches across by 5 inches wide and 2 ¼ inches thick. Rare unusual Antique English Art Nouveau 6x3 tile #1035 Alfred Meakin & Co.
A rare original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 3" This lustrous and vibrant emerald green tile has three large. Raised, spear-like buds in an unusual khaki colour, with glorious little sky-blue forget-me-not flowers peeping through behind them. Virtually mint condition. When turned to a strong light source, the very slightest of surface rubbing is visible along the extreme upper and lower edges, and even less so to the high central points of two of the buds. Fine background crackle-crazing due to age. The rear is marked: A.M. ENGLAND' 6' and has a rectangular arrangement of 6 raised dots. This tile is from my own collection. Easily postable. The finished parcel will weigh around 550g-650g for a single tile properly bubblewrapped, padded and strongly boxed. Lovely Art Nouveau tube lined tile. It has no makers indentifying marks but it was made by The Cleveland Tile Company, circa 1905. The design is in the form of a stylized fan shaped flower with swirling stem and leaves. The tile measures 6" x 6" and is in pretty good condition. Just fine glaze crazing, the top left corner has been clipped off and both lower corners have minor nibbles(please see image) Overseas shipping costs = Europe £ 6.60. A stunning original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 6" The elegant design is of ivory-coloured stylized tulips and beautiful little heart-shaped buds with amber stamens. The whiplash stems and leaves are the same colour as the background- a soft light apple-green. Mint condition. I can find no faults whatsoever. There is broad. Dark crackle crazing due to age. Please see the detailed scans. The rear is so clean that it looks as if the tile was never used. Antique English Art Nouveau 5 colours tile #1064 Rhodes Tile Co.
A fabulous original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 6" It features a lovely graduated primrose yellow-amber waterlily-like flower with a violet centre and beautiful flanking buds. Graduated mint-green to olive-green leaves- including a pair of beautiful little spear-shaped ones at the bottom- against a vibrant green background with an outlined crescent-shaped cartouche. The green glaze is highly iridescent. Fabulous overall condition with no damage. Just the merest hint of corner chamfering(both right-hand corners) at the time of manufacture to fit furniture or a fireplace(the rear is so clean, it looks unused) The raised pattern outline isn't complete everywhere but this is glazed over and it is how this tile was when made- not a later fault or damage. An unusual original(antique) Art Nouveau press-moulded majolica tile measuring 6" x 3" This tile has two large. Raised tulip flowers in deep blue/ultramarine and icy light-blue which continues into the background. The leaves are an unusual graduated mink& olive colour that I haven't seen before on Art Nouveau tiles. Near mint. Some minor nibbling to the extreme edges and perhaps the lightest of surface rubbing to the highest points of the leaves and one section of associated outlining at the bottom(but you have to look for it! Art Nouveau 6" tile made by Rhodes Tile Co. in 1906. A deep red background with gold stylised flowers on gold stems. This tile was in a wooden frame when found and this has probably protected it during it's life! Edges and corners are good with roughness to the lower edge and a very small'nibble' to top left edge. There is a scratch to glaze near left hand edge about half way down( see 2nd image) Verso shown in 3rd image. Reads'ENGLAND' and a Rd. No. which is illegible.
