Marked Rd No 492973, England. Art Nouveau design. 6" x 6" each. Rich deep green glossy solid pattern checkered with golden floral petal design. Have been used based on backs but other than overall common glaze age crazing. Most are overall very good condition. A few have tiny rim chips including factory underglaze chips, but nothing that detracts from use or beauty. I almost separated these out. This is a beautiful tile frieze- Five of the tiles put together make up the design. Then there are three extra tiles of the ones with the fle ur-de-lis in the middle. They can just be put in with the freize to make it longer and have eight total together. This set of tiles is an original antique set. All of them do have chips. Some small, some large. This is a beautiful. Fun and fabulous antique tile measuring 5.3/8 inches square. I live in a victorian townhouse in the art museum area of Philadelphia. When we were insulating the walls on either side of our fireplace, we found this behind the wall many years ago. It is a funny scene of two drunken men in a donkey accident. The colors are beautiful and vivid! There is only a very very tiny bit of crazing in the bottom left which is even difficult to see. The edges are a bit nicked as you can see in the photos. Approx 70 years old or more and this piece is an great vintage Architectural element. Many like these could be used as art displayed on interior and exterior walls. As you can see in the photos there is aging but nothing out of character on such pieces. These pieces that I will be listing on Ebay have been outside for 50 plus years. The cornice could possibly even be polished-I have not tried it to clean them or polish. Although this old patina is handsome as is. Amazing and rare 8-1/8" Victorian era portrait tile made by The J + JG Low Tile Works of Chelsea. Ma. Olive green glaze. Incredible, detailed tile in high relief. Photos taken in natural light, the second in a shaded area. This tile spent it's entire life in a frame. The condition is impeccable, even the Snow White back. Light to moderate crazing that is inherent to any tile of this Age. Patent date of 1882. Low believed in tiles as art and they produced frames to accommodate their larger, figural tiles. Antique Mintons LTD Tile renaissance style 1880 8 inches Pattern 173
This tile was made by Mintons Ltd and date from the late 19th century. In renaissance style quite typical for the times. Several such panels were made by Mintons. The artist is unknown and they were most likely designed by a nameless art department worker at the company. Pattern number 1733 in the catalogue, an image of the full panel is below, this number indicates an introduction date of around 1880. The tile measures 8 inches square. There is no chips or damage and it has a glossy finish to the surface. I have two other tiles from this set in my other listings. Happy to combine postage. Please see all images.
