Peerless Weber Costello 8" Globe Circa 1950 Mint Condition This listing features a mint condition New Peerless Weber Costello 8" globe. It is 90% + condition. I am dating it around 1950 based on the fact that Israel is listed as a country. Korea is undivided, Formosa has not been renamed and Indochina(Vietnam) is still printed. The globe measures approx. 11" high and has an approx. 8" diameter. The photos do not do this item justice. It is exceptionally clean, bright and legible. The base has a few, small minor marks and the globe itself is fantastic. A visually stunning piece. It has obviously been well taken care and minimally used. This auction is for a 18 inch globe ball. Which is constructed of paper gores over plaster, made in the 1920's. It has damage as is often the case with globes this size and age. This is shown in the pictures. Other areas not shown are in fine condition. Vintage c 1950's 10" Peerless Weber Costello World Globe Deco Lines Blue Oceans
Here is a very nice 1950's vintage World Globe manufactured by Weber Costello Company. Chicago- it is a"Peerless" The globe is 10" in diameter and stands 13" high. It is made of paper gores on. Likely, heavy cardboard. It is a political globe feturing political boundaries. Cities, and basic physiographic global information. It is set on a single meridian made of steel. The convex shaped base. Also made of steel, has a distinctly art deco look to it. The meridian and base seem to be coated in a rich pewter-colored galvanized look. But they are not galvanized. Thre is absolutely no rust or blemishes on the meridian and base. The oceans are a very attractive pastel aqua blue; there is no fading or discoloration. The equater tape is fully intact. The ridge lines between some of the gores has raised a very little. Maybe ... more1/128" or less, as is normal for a globe of this age. I see not paper loss. The overal condition is very good to excellent. The globe rotates silently and freely on the meridan. At the bottom of the meridian where the treaded rod bisets the globe and attached to the meridian for removal. It appears that a small nut is lost, but this can easily be remedied at a hardware store; it does not affect the globe's utility or aesthetics in any way, in my opinion(see Photo 9) I date this globe from about 1953 or 1954 using the"Omniterrum" dating sytem which you can view at. The day/night flange at the North Pole is intact and original. This globe has sharp. Simple lines and makes for a nice mid-century look. The coloring of the countries and lettering is very soft. Or pastel, and easy on the eyes. This is not a difficult globe to find, but maybe in this condition. It also features ship routes with miles in the oceans. It is extremely detailed and precise for the cities and place names. A nice well-aged and well-kept 1950's table globe for use or collection. No international bidders- except Canada- please. An Early Airplane Base Weber c1935 Black Oceans Weber Costello A very early example of Weber Costello's most popular and successful models. The Airplane base black oceans globe. This 1930's airplane base is not chromed but of a pot metal with a satin finish. Note the elongated fixed finials that are specific to this particular globe and the more stubby shaped plane that represents the Art Deco style of the thirties. The map displays Pre-WW2 borders c1935 prior to any German expansion into Europe. Aviation first sparked public interest with the Charles Lindbergh flight and the Zepplin success in the 1920's and later was fueled by Amelia Earhart's flights and advancements in technology and aviation. Circa 1910 School Pulldown Wall Map-Europe-Weber Costello Champion Series
Here for sale is a vintage map published Weber Costello. It came with several similar maps from the"Unrivaled Series" of 1914 published by Johnston. So I think it was made circa 1910's even though I could not find a date. I obtained this map and 6 other maps from a collection of maps used in a one room school in Welch. Minnesota. The maps had a slight odor of age which has improved substantially since I took them out of their holder. The map measures about 38 by 46 inches. And has rollers on each end. The map has condition issues as shown in the photo. Including tearing and scraping, mostly along the bottom, and along the extreme edges. Map could use a cleaning. I place the production early 1920 because of Petrograd presence. Marker: 1922- Russia changes to Soviet Union( Still Russia)1924- Christiana, Norway renamed Oslo( Still Christiana) While the condition is not pristine it has been restored to top condition with this grade: fair condition with some touch up the the Atlantic. A small crack in France,all of the country are easy to read. The globe turn freely. The overall colors are fading in some part with oxidation.The old yellow varnish has been removed to restore most of the original color. This 16" diameter Weber Costello World Globe dates between 1957(Ghana is shown instead of Gold Coast) and 1961(Tanganyika is listed instead of Tanzania) It was used in a school and shows some aging but is in overall excellent condition. VERY INTERESTING Bermuda is shown with a British Flag"sticker" on it. Did they forget to label it originally and this was a fix? I found it very interesting. 1930 Vintage Weber Costello 8" World Globe and rare, surviving Globe Manual
Estate sale piece. 1930 Weber Costello 8" Globe. Date was determined using the following method: 1925(post) Oslo. Norway(present) 1926-31– Central Australia(present) 1930- Constantinople to Istanbul(Istanbul present) 1931-45- Japan annexes Manchuria. Names it“Manchoukuo” Manchuria present) 1932– Arabia become Saudi Arabia(Arabia present) The Globe is in fair to good condition considering its age. The most obvious damage is a 3/4" x 2" x 1/32" impression between North Africa and through the Black Sea. There is also a crack along the equator from the Western Africa coast to just outside of Ceylon. There is a scratch between the words"North" and"Atlantic" There is a 1/2" x 1/8" stain or spot in the Antarctic Circle by the 120 degree longitude line. Other than that. It seems to have the standard ... morenicks, bleed, fading, and overall patina of an 83 year old globe. And as if that were not enough. The globe also comes with a manual. Unfortunately. It has been written on, and in at best, fair condition, but it is the original manual that came with the globe. How do I know this? Oral history from my grandmother. Yeah, I know, not real enticing provenance, however, it is obvious when you handle the book that it is the real thing. Description I believe this globe is from the early WWII era. Possibly around 1939. This is my best guess as not everything on the map is consistent with a specific era. Reasons I believe this is from circ 1939 are listed below: Irish Free State(become Ireland in 1937) Italian East Africa(established in 1936) Manchukuo(renamed by Japan when they seized control of Manchuria from1931-1945) Taiwan as a territory of Japan(occupation by Japan ended with their surrender to the USN in 1945) There is no Israel or Lebanon(established 1948 and 1943 respectively) Poland(not yet shown as part of Germany when it was invaded in 1939 until Allied victory in 1945) The school globe is covered with 12 individual paper gores and has a diameter of 8" and a total height of 11" The meridian is made of metal. Very interesting Weber Costello, canvas backed, wall maps(or pull down school maps) The map of Europe is about 40" x 52" and a pencil note indicates it was"Received 3/31/44" The other North American map is a press proof and bears the 7/1/48 sign-off signature of"Wallmeyer" Weber Costello's Director of Cartography during the 1940s. Please review the photos carefully for condition issues. There is a tear at the top of the North American map but it doesn't extend into live area. There are plenty of creases and wrinkles to contend with but otherwise the maps are in good, vintage condition and could be easily restored. The color is very good. Weber Costello Peerless 12 Globe 1950s Version
A nice globe from the early 1950s as the best I can tell. I researched and found out the Gold Coast became Ghana in 1956. This has Gold Coast still and Israel is present so it is after 1948. The globe has a black background making it somewhat unusual. Also the base and directional bar are silver in color. As far as condition: the base can use some metal polish but is nice. There are a few small nicks and scrapes but much less than you normally find on a globe nealy 60 years old. The globe does have a nice shine to it still. Would look great on anyones desk or display area. Ask for more pictures if needed.

An Early and Rare Celestial Globe by the Weber Costello Co. A rare early celestial sphere produced by the Weber Costello Co. after 1907 when the named changed from C.F. Weber Co. Celestial globes are very difficult to date and this particular globe is not dated but the construction and mount hint at the age. Constructed of pasteboard and plaster and mounted on a ball and claw cast iron stand. It appears to be from the 1920's. The astronomers names listed below the cartouche are very difficult to discern which would provide another clue to the date of this globe. Constellations are elegantly depicted in gold by artistic Greek figures against a green background. Nebulae and star magnitudes are also depicted on the globe. Since antiquity man has observed the heavens assigning religion. Mythology, farming practices, navigation and even fertility ... moreto the movement of the stars. Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences that evolved through many scientific developments and instruments. Celestial globes are one of the oldest tools of this science. A 10 inch orb covered in 12 lithographed paper gores representing the heavens and axis mounted on an iron offset arm on a ball and claw footed cast iron stand. The approximate height is 17 inches. The condition of the globe show wear in the form of soiling. Uneven patina in some areas, fading of some graphics, one scuff with loss and some minor very small scratches. I am offering this Antique Globe produced by Weber Costello Company. I believe this is from 1920-30's. The globe has a dent that measures 1-3/4" by 1" near the north pole and another smaller dent near the south pole, some flecks of print missing in a few places. It measures on the stand 20 inches tall and is a 12 inch globe. The clawfoot base that it rotates on is a cast copper finish. This can be restored and would make a nice display in an office or den. Weber Costello 12" Peerless c.1958 Beautiful mid-century'black oceans' globe with chromed steel base& meridian. This fine example dates c.1958 as Ghana is shown but Malaya is not yet Malaysia(both 1957) And Egypt is not yet part of the United Arab Republic(1958) Pasteboard hemispheres with composite paper gores joined at the equator. Globe rotates perfectly without rubbing. Displays very well. Base is flawless, no scratches, swirl marks, or pitting. Large School Canada map Pull down Weber Costello 48 x 44 inches
This is a really great map of Canada by Weber Costello. This was from my kids old school and when they consolidated they sold off a lot of this type of stuff. This is the last one that I have of the maps. This is abut 48 x 44 inches(not including most of the margins on the ends) and is in good condition but does have some wrinkles(mostly around the edge) The colors are very bright and colorful. I have a Weber/Costello Co. not sure if original or reproduction. This is a late 50's- 1960's 16" mounted globe. The stand will reach the height of 6 feet when pulled out completely and can be rolled around on 4 wheels. Some of the countries on the globe are Formosa(Taiwan) Ceylon(Sri Lanka) In very nice condition for its age the colors are still bright and vivid some minor wear noted as pictured. For auction is a very large Weber Costello canvas pull down wall map of Europe. I'm not sure of the exact age of this map(Mos t likely late 1950's to the 1960's) The spring operated roll system makes this easy to deploy and retract and it is in good working condition. This map was purchased as surplus from a local university. These map measures abo ut 56" across and is about 65" tall. It also includes the built in mounting bracket so it's ready to install. These make great decorative pieces and the colors on this one are quite vibrant compared to most others I have seen. Weber Costello 12in Illuminated Paper over Glass Globe. Circa early 1960's
Very pretty Weber Costello 12 inch"Internationalist" political globe. Paper gores over glass orb. Appears to be a"Library Mount" globe using better. Hand techniques to adhere gores to glass. No seam splitting or opening. Metal 1/2 Meridian mounted on simple wooden"X" base. I use dimmers on all of my illuminated globes- this makes for a nicer presentation when lit and saves the globe from overheating. A very nice globe for a collector or as a home or office accent piece. No paper loss. Gores are bright and clear illuminated or not. Some discoloration in parts of the Pacific- see photos. I took it to a friend to get some insight on it and come to find out its a globe that weber prodproduced for schools. He told me that it was very hard to find these especially in this condition. He offered to buy it but I told him that I was going to post it on ebay. Im starting this auction considerably low from the info that I received in hopes to do ok on it. It does have some stains.
