A very rare Cram's 16" Deluxe Political Terrestrial World Globe that lights up. Its sits on a double metal axis and has a solid wood base. There is some delaminating of the paper where the globe comes apart where the bulb is at the bottom of the globe. It spins but you have to manually spin it around. You cant grab it and spin it and watch it go around. Picture number 5 is the natural way the globe sits. It has No. 16 and C83 o the label. A little work and you have a nice rare globe. Up for auction is a vintage 9" terrestrial globe made by George F Cram Co in the USA. Circa 1950s. Natural scale 1:55,800,000, and 880 statue miles = 1" Globe shows country boundaries of the time, as well as lots of other information such as water currents and miles between major cities. Globe is in overall good condition. It is missing one of the"feet" that protect one of the three stand legs, and there is a small peeled spot near the top of the globe(visible in photos) Other than that, it's in good shape and would make a great display piece! An Unusual DENOYER GEPPERT PHYSICAL POLITICAL 12" GLOBE ca. 1935 - 194?
At first glance this looks like a pretty ordinary. Even somewhat drab globe, with typical condition and cosmetic issues-but what sets it apart as being not so ordinary after all is that it prominently displays the names and contours of the earth's major geographical features and regions rather than the various countries. In other words. The rivers, mountain ranges, seas, lakes, plains, plateaus and other physical features are clearly drawn and identified, whereas the more transient political boundaries and nation's names are shown in a faint underlay. It actually takes a a pretty keen eye to find and read the political names, so I think globe aficionados will find this to be a fun and very interesting addition to their collection. The globe shows Iran rather than Persia. And I can't find Pakistan, so my best guess is late 1930's ... moreto mid 40's as the date of manufacture. It is labeled as a"Cartocraft" globe. Map printed in Great Britain" Globe manufactured in U.S.A. Edited by L.P. Denoyer" Published by Denoyer-Geppert Co. 5235 Ravenswood Ave Chicago" There are some condition issues that include minor scuffs and stains. Some paint speckles, a physical crack in the Sahara Desert(which doesn't look nearly as bad as the sunlit close-up picture above makes it seem) and there are a few places that look like push pins were inserted to denote a specific location(the Washington, DC area, for one) There is no hour dial or washer/spacer of any kind at the North Pole. The base- which is a plated or painted steel- has some scuffs, some crayon scrawling, and it looks like a name or word was scratched into the underside. Also, there's something loose sliding up and down on the shaft inside the globe. Not a prize-winning showpiece perhaps. Although I think just a little TLC could really bring its appearance rating up, but this does seem to be a very rare, perhaps even unique specimen, that a dedicated collector would be proud to own. Here is a vintage Rand McNally Physical Political Lighted Globe. Technology and design by Nova Rico. Florence, Italy, dated 1982. It is a hard plastic ball covered in brightly colored printed plastic. The light in the globe can be accessed by pulling apart the two poles. A switch on the cord lights up one 25 watt candelabra bulb. There are a couple nicks along the equator, and at the poles, the plastic shows splitting when it is lit. The plastic disc at the top that would indicate time zones, has broken in half. This globe measures 17.5" high x 37.5" circumference. No International shipping. Except for Canada and Mexico. Nice Vintage Mid to Late 1980's George F. Cram Co. Cram's Physical Political 12" Diameter Terrestrial Metal World Globe" On Metal Stand Made by George F. Cram ~ Leading Globe and Map Maker Since 1867 this great globe will surely become more of a rarity. And more collectible with time, due to the fact at the beginning of 2012, the George F. Cram company's operations were shut down& all products have been discontinued at this time. I have dated this globe to have been made somewhere between 1984-1988. As Upper Volta has changed to Burkino Faso(1984) but Burma has not changed to Myanmar(1989) The globe is free floating and comes off the stand so that you may view it from any angle you wish. It is very cool in that the metal stand has a mileage scale where you can figure your estimated traveling time on an propeller ... moredriven airliner cruising at 300 MPH and a jet airliner cruising at 600 MPH. This globe is in fair to good vintage condition overall. But does show a few stains, and minor wear spots, or surface imperfections, as to be expected from an older globe. The RAND McNALLY Globe is made by RICO. In FLORENCE, ITALY, back in 1982. It's very light, stands on clear acrylic axis and black pedestal. It's about 18" high and 11-1/2" wide. The Globe itself is about a hair less than 10" in diameter, since it is made in Europe and it's 25 cm. 1"=2.54 cm)The extension cord is 6' long. Colors are bright and vivid as though they have been just applied on the surface. Exceptionally well preserved and clean for its 30 years. I could not see a single spot, scratch mark, or peeled offs anywhere on the globe. Light switch works, and the lamp delivers a beautiful illumination at night. This is a political map, emphasizing the names of the continents, the countries and political lines of division in the nations. This globe was manufactured post-1991, after East and West Germany had been reunited and when the Soviet Union was dissolved. 22" high approximately and made in the U.S.A. Compared in the photo with a standard 12" globe most are familiar with. The globe is in very good condition. It spins freely. It has a brass-look metal base. Equator tape is aged and cracked in some places. On most older globes. The clear equator tape becomes yellowed and breaks off. There are places where the finish is worn(obvious in the blue ocean where those spots are white) Great educational ... moretool for classrooms and homeschools. Also perfect for display.
