Combined with outstanding craftsmanship. Majestic in size, bold in design and highlighting the Space Age Era, this globe will be quite a conversation starter! The model consists of a Cartocraft globe attached to the“Vanguard Satellite Demonstrator\ mounting. The moveable ring of this model was to demonstrate the orbit a satellite might take around the earth. It could also function as a normal horizon ring. Invented and patented by Keith Olson in the late\50s. A long time employee and very forward thinking creator of many Denoyer-Geppert globe products. Even though no longer perfect(it was indeed a school globe) this model is still very interesting. The cartouche has an actual print date of 1967. About the manufacture: Created in 1916 by Otto E. Geppert and L. Phillip Denoyer. Former employees of the US branch by W. A.K.Johston of England(Nystrom) the manufacture specialized in school globes, but did offer from time to time models for the home. The company ceased to exist as a Globe manufacture in the 80’s when Rand McNally purchased its assets. This auction is for a super rare globe made by Denoyer and Geppert of Chicago Desk model is about 27" tall and 22" wide also has adjustable stand. this globe is fully functional decorative object extrordinare Wonderful instructional globe from 1940's. This is approximately 20” in diameter and is hollow metal orb with only the land masses in dark blue and outlined in yellow. The black areas were used as a chalkboard by the students using them and then wiped clean with a cloth.The base is cast metal and very heavy. As can be seen in the photos there is a considerable amount of surface rust freckling and 1 very small dent that you cant see in photos. Some staining which I am unsure of how, or if, it can be removed. Havent tried to clean this at all-

IL. It is approximately 20” in diameter and it is a hollow metal orb with only the land masses in dark blue and outlined in yellow. The base is cast metal and very heavy. As can be seen in the photos there is a considerable amount of surface rust freckling and some staining which I am unsure of how, or if, it can be removed. Globe also has one dent on lower section about 4" x 3"these globes appear to unscrew down the middle, so you could probably take it apart and tap the dent out if so desired.I didnt try it, or attemp to clean it in any way-It appears to work properly but since it was purchased at an estate sale it is being sold ... moreas is. An Unusual DENOYER GEPPERT PHYSICAL POLITICAL 12" GLOBE ca. 1935 - 194?
At first glance this looks like a pretty ordinary. Even somewhat drab globe, with typical condition and cosmetic issues-but what sets it apart as being not so ordinary after all is that it prominently displays the names and contours of the earth's major geographical features and regions rather than the various countries. In other words. The rivers, mountain ranges, seas, lakes, plains, plateaus and other physical features are clearly drawn and identified, whereas the more transient political boundaries and nation's names are shown in a faint underlay. It actually takes a a pretty keen eye to find and read the political names, so I think globe aficionados will find this to be a fun and very interesting addition to their collection. The globe shows Iran rather than Persia. And I can't find Pakistan, so my best guess is late 1930's ... moreto mid 40's as the date of manufacture. It is labeled as a"Cartocraft" globe. Map printed in Great Britain" Globe manufactured in U.S.A. Edited by L.P. Denoyer" Published by Denoyer-Geppert Co. 5235 Ravenswood Ave Chicago" There are some condition issues that include minor scuffs and stains. Some paint speckles, a physical crack in the Sahara Desert(which doesn't look nearly as bad as the sunlit close-up picture above makes it seem) and there are a few places that look like push pins were inserted to denote a specific location(the Washington, DC area, for one) There is no hour dial or washer/spacer of any kind at the North Pole. The base- which is a plated or painted steel- has some scuffs, some crayon scrawling, and it looks like a name or word was scratched into the underside. Also, there's something loose sliding up and down on the shaft inside the globe. Not a prize-winning showpiece perhaps. Although I think just a little TLC could really bring its appearance rating up, but this does seem to be a very rare, perhaps even unique specimen, that a dedicated collector would be proud to own. The sticker on the stand is ripped and the stand shows some minor nicks or dents in a few places. There is a felt lining inside and that appears to be in nice condition too with some minor wear. VINTAGE MID CENTURY MODERN DENOYER-GEPPERT 12" CELESTIAL ZODIAC GLOBE 1968 Up for auction is a mid century modern Denoyer-Geppert 12" celestial globe. The globe is covered in dark aqua blue/green paper and there is some age discoloring at seams. Globe spins freely and properly. The ring is made of laminated wood and is in good vintage condition. With some crackling to the laminate. Cast iron base is in great condition. The metal horizon band also rotates freely but is missing two screws that hold the wooden ring secure, so the ring does wobble. Measures 20" tall. Ring 18" dia. Base dia. 11" Weighs 14lbs. Antique 12-inch Denoyer-Geppert Globe marked 1967 edited by C.B. Odell Cartocraft Beginners. It is a vintage globe that has a cool design. But does show age/wear. There are some scratching, dirt marks, water stains, a hole and some peeling with one rough spot in particular. The base has tarnish and a hole(Not sure why or if it came that way or not, see pictures) While certainly not a mint globe you can see from the pictures that the base is unique and graphics are also unique due to the font and style. The base has a great modernist/ retro look. And would be right at home on the set of"Mad Men. The globe was manufactured in Chicago. Illinois. There is no date printed on the globe, but based on the names of certain nations and cities we can date this globe to about 1959. There are two different holes in the base. So that the globe can either stand straight up vertically. Or at the Earth's 23 degree axis tilt. The globe lifts out of the holes easily so you must hold the base when carrying the globe. The surface is easily readable in normal lighting. Various small wear age spots which can be seen in ... morethe photos. This is to be expected in a globe of this age. There are no dents or holes in the globe. The base and rotating bezel is made of handsome wood and the globe turns on a rotating chromed steel ring. This globe is a fascinating. Contracted by NASA, Denoyer Geppert created the first complete moon globe, using the Apollo 10 film footage and photographs of the far side of the moon. Mind-blowing. Mid Century 12" moon globe. RARE Vintage Industrial Denoyer Geppert Spun Steel Military Navy Globe WWII 40s
This globe is in very good condition for its age and perhaps the best condition for one of these that we've seen online. There are scratches. Stains, some surface rust, and a small dent that you would imagine something from the 1940's would have, but it appears to have been fairly well cared for over the years. The globe was made by Denoyer Geppert Co. in Chicago, IL during the World War II era. It was used for planning military and navy maneuvers. The globe spins freely. The globe can adjust drastically in height between 51" and 71" tall. The globe is about 20" or so in diameter. Combined with outstanding craftsmanship. Majestic in size, bold in design and highlighting the Space Age Era, this globe will be quite a conversation starter! The model consists of a Cartocraft globe attached to the“Vanguard Satellite Demonstrator\ mounting. The moveable ring of this model was to demonstrate the orbit a satellite might take around the earth. It could also function as a normal horizon ring. Invented and patented by Keith Olson in the late\50s. A long time employee and very forward thinking creator of many Denoyer-Geppert globe products. Even though no longer perfect(it was indeed ... morea school globe) this model is still very interesting. The cartouche has an actual print date of 1967. About the manufacture: Created in 1916 by Otto E. Geppert and L. Phillip Denoyer. Former employees of the US branch by W. A.K.Johston of England(Nystrom) the manufacture specialized in school globes, but did offer from time to time models for the home. The company ceased to exist as a Globe manufacture in the 80’s when Rand McNally purchased its assets. Today the remaining part is called the Denoyer-Geppert Science Co and produces human anatomy teaching models. Description: This model is a 16” Cartocraft Physical Political Globe. Edited by C.B. Odell. Capitols of each country are identified. The Horizon Ring is movable, made of wood with an overlay of veneer, which is printed. The base is also made of solid wood. The entire Globe and meridian can be removed from the base. The connecting metal dowel can be placed onto the base in two different positions. National Aeronautics and Space Administration Scale: 1:16.700,000 This incredible globe was acquired from the family of Dr. Thomas Vrebalovich(1926-2012) Project Scientist in the Space Program at Jet Propulsion Laboratory(JPL) Mr. Vrebalovich was responsible for the data used to map this globe which was the first edition of the globe produced by NASA incorporating the results of the photography and data collected by the Mariner 9 spacecraft. Condition: Globe is in excellent condition with age appropriate wear. The surface is dirty from being on display for decades. But was kept ... morefrom light and has aged beautifully. We have not attempted to clean in any way. Photo#7 shows the most noticeable paper crease that allows the lithograph to form to the curved surface and is not a defect. Photo#11 shows the most significant damage which are a few surface scratches that range from about 1/8" to 1/4" Original wood base retains both original felt(allows globe to rotate smoothly without damage) and feet. Excellent condition with age appropriate wear to edges. Gold foil label has scratches. Marks, a damaged corner and is pulling away from wood surface slightly. There is a dent and other minor markings along with general discoloration and spots due to age and use. The top finial is missing and there is a 3/4" piece of the map missing at the finial hole. The unique cast metal globe bank was a popular gift to new clients opening savings account at a bank. Politically, the world of the roaring 20’s is displayed, based on the country and city names. The Japanese Empire is present and in Europe the Russian Revolution is evident as Petrograd has just been renamed Leningrad, however, the country is still titled Russia(not USSR) One is still able to view Constantinople, Persia and many other magical historic sites. This is an old industrial globe from"Denoyer Geppert Company Chicago 40. ILL Made in U.S.A. approximately 63" circumference/20" diameter, with blue waters, land masses(blackboard type surface so chalk could be used to draw countries, etc. upon it) outlined in yellow. It is hollow, metal with a seam at the equater, with chrome accents, and cast iron base. It is in great shape as shown in the photos and all with a nice old patina showing it is old and used, and beautiful. I've owned it for about ten years, purchasing it from an antiques store. Vintage Denoyer Geppert Chalk Globe Military WWII Cast Iron Stand Industrial
Offered is very cool vintage globe made by Denoyer Geppert. This is a chalk globe. So instead of having country names and political lines it's left open so you can write and erase on the globe as you please. I'm unsure of the actual age of this globe, but judging from the patina and construction it's probably somewhere in the 1930's to 1940's era. I've read elsewhere that these were used for military purposes, but I'm not 100% sure of that. This globe measures approximately 20" across and the overall height of the stand is about 30" The iron base is about 11" across and has a rubber bumper on the edges and bottom. So it can be set on furniture without damage to the surface. It spins freely and the axis of the globe is adjustable, so you can tilt it as shown in some of the pictures. The overall conditon ... moreof this globe is excellent for it's age. I have only wiped it down with a damp cloth and it shows a great patina from age. There are a few tiny white marks along the edges(Pictured) But the rest is just general aging and wear from regular use. Nice Vintage Denoyer Geppert Military Planning Chalkboard Globe 1940s Industrial
Here's a BIG globe from the 1940's. Some sellers have suggested that these were used by war strategists during WWII. That may be true. But I seem to recall seeing at least one in a classroom back in the early 50's when I was in grammar school. Anyway, this one has been in my rather peaceful attic for 34 years, and it was old when it went up there! It stands about 30 inches or so tall, and is roughly 21-22 inches wide, including the bow. It weighs almost 24 pounds. The base is cast iron with a rubber non-scratch rim, and you can loosen its fluted collar to allow the stainless steel bow to be positioned at any angle you desire. Not sure why you would want to have it at anything other than 23.4 degrees, but you can. The sphere itself is steel, maybe the thickness of car metal. It spins freely and is painted with blackboard paint ... moreso you can write on it with chalk. It will also stick to refrigerator magnets, or anything with a magnet. The equator is stenciled with markings of longitude, and latitude is marked in the mid-Pacific. The condition is good, with some very light surface rust in the Pacific between Hawaii and the mainland, and a few handling marks here& there. No dents whatsoever. My daylight photos tend to exaggerate any cosmetics flaws. It really looks very nice for its age, overall and makes a big statement wherever you put it! Will carefully pack(double box) ship immediately upon receipt of your PayPal via FedEx or UPS Ground. Whichever is least expensive. Denoyer- Geppert WWII Era 20"Terrestial Globe on Spun Steel Base Amazing WWII Era Globe This is a stunning Denoyer- Geppert(Chicago) steel globe probably dating to the 40's or 50's. This globe measures approximately 20" 63" circumference) across and the overall height with the stand is about 28" The spun steel base is about 14" and provides excellent support for the globe without the weight of the cast iron bases more commonly found. It spins freely on its axis and the full meridian(the gimbel-like support of the globe) is adjustable allowing the globe to be tilted or inclined completely around(see photos) or just left at the approximate 23 1/2 degrees from perpendicular that is correct for display. The equatorial band is created by the joint of the two halves of the spun steel sphere itself. In my opinion ... morethe overall condition of this globe is quite exceptional considering its advanced years! It was carefully cleaned with dampened cloth(the chalky paint tends to come off if it is too vigorously scrubbed) and the spun steel base was cleaned with a stronger cleaning agent to remove the build up of gunk. The base shows some rust staining but overall is quite nice. The mechanism that holds the meridian in place and allows is to move/tilt is turned from aluminum and steel. The"shadow" of a stick-on label is visible but the label is long gone. There are some scratches. Scuffs and minor paint loss here and there but for a globe that is likely 70 years old it is in remarkable shape. It just has an amazing presence- see photos. Useful as an educational tool(best guess is that was its original intended application but some attribute military planning uses as well) but a stunning display piece as well. It will be very carefully packed and protected(and insured at your desire) and it looks like the packing and box will be heavier than the globe itself. Antique globe 4" Denoyer-Geppert Co made by Denoyer-Geppert Co Scale 2000
A terrestrial table globe in a semi-meridian which can be adjusted in various positions. The globe is made of metal with screened painted cartography and is mounted on a circular tin dish base. Painted black. The base is imprinted in orange with manufacturer’s information and instructions on how to adjust the globe in geography lessons. Probably around 1929, Leningrad in Russia but Mongolia and Manchuria Part of China. This was intended to be an inexpensive globe for classroom use in which the students would have these at their desks while the teacher would lead the lesson with a larger globe. For the teaching of geography. It offers an innovative feature that the company called a“sliding clamp” which allows the meridian to be adjusted at different angles relative to the vertical“upright wire” attached to the base. Loosening the clamp permits ... morethe meridian to slide; tightening it secures it in place. Other examples of this globe exist, with different text on the base, advertising the products of the Denoyer-Geppert Company. Those were probably promotional items. The base explains how to use the sliding clamp: SUGGESTIONS FOR USE. For most work in geography your city should be on top. Turn the semi-meridian one half turn to the right and slide it so that your antipodes(the place exactly opposite to you) comes directly over the upright wire. Tighten the meridian. Place the semi-meridian in a north and south plane with the north pole to the north. It is now possible to see where the different countries or continents are from your location. HUGE Vintage Military WWII Era Geppert Denoyer Hand Paint Chalk GLOBE on Stand
Up for sale is a great vintage WWII Era Denoyer Geppert hand painted globe. These were used in the military and were able to be marked with chalk to indicate territories. Etc. It is pretty massive and is approximately 30" tall and about 22" wide. The circumference is about 70" around. Overall, it is in acceptable condition, but does have some wear and tear. The metal stand has rust on it, which will clean up, but we are selling as is. The globe itself has several dents(I have included a picture of the worst one- last pic) but they are not extremely noticeable if just using for display. There are small light colored scuffs all over, which can be seen in several photographs. It spins nicely and you can change the axis as well. This is a nice antique 16" celestial globe by Denoyer-Geppert Co. of Chicago. Copyright 1956. I would assign my non-professional assessment of the condition as fair, but this is only a guess on my part. Overall, I think the globe looks very nice. Many of the paper gores show wrinkles and some lifting, which can be seen in the photos. The wooden ring is in fine shape, as is the iron stand. Shipping: The globe will be well packed for shipping. With the globe removed from it's stand, and each packed separately. This is a CARTOCRAFT Physical-Political 16 inch Globe edited by C.B. Odell. On the globe National Capitals are underlined and Political Boundaries are shown in purple. The globe is 22.5" tall and is 21" wide. Globe is in excellent condition considering its age. The Globe itself is brilliantly colored and has no loss of paper. The mounting is also in excellent condition and shows little wear. In photo 6 can be seen a horizontal crack in one of the wooden legs of the base. The leg is still structurally sound and shows no indication of splitting off. This appears to be simply wood age related and not actual damage. Photo 7 shows where a small piece of wood is missing on the underside of the wooden ring. This also appears to be related to the manufacture and age of the wood ring and is not actual breakage. DESCRIPTION As you probably can tell from the photos. This awesome vintage globe is currently spending its days in a storage unit, and it deserves better! I moved to a smaller place with lower ceilings, and I've got to find it a new home. This is a vintage globe made by Denoyer-Geppert near the middle of the twentieth century. The orb is made of two pressed metal hemispheres joined at the equator and mounted on a post secured in a heavy. Cast iron base. The painted surface is similar to a chalk board, in that you can chalk in country names, political or cultural sectors, etc. This type of globe was purportedly used during World War II(WW II) for training and/or mission planning purposes. The globe measures about 20" in diameter and stands about 30" tall. There is an old sticker on the base that indicates it used to belong to ... morethe Chula Vista School District. This rare and unique icon of the“Space Race” was one of the first American produced globes exhibiting complete cartography of the far side of the moon. The Russian Luna 3 probe in 1959 sent to Earth the first pictures of the unknown dark side of the moon. These images were the template for a Russian lunar globe(26cm) in 1961 and a German version by Rath Globen(33cm) in 1963. Giving the Russians a clear lead in the“Space Race” It wasn’t until 1969 that the Americans in a race to the moon would launch Apollo 10 in a dry run for an actual moon landing, providing the world with color transmissions of remarkable quality and spectacular views of the Earth and Moon. A true artifact of the Space Age era, this particular first edition 1969 model is truly rare, as no landings are noted, and the far side of the moon is all documented but had yet to be named. This globe documents one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century. In excellent condition, could use a good cleaning. It is missing the top finial which can be replaced easily. You are bidding on a Vintage Denoyer-Geppert Co. Globe from Chicago. IL. I found this recently in an abandoned storage unit. It measures 6" from the South Pole to the North Pole. There was a hand-made tag on it that said"Pre-1940's Globe" This is supposed to fit inside a wooden circular frame. But that frame has a broken dowel rod on the bottom that keeps the globe from staying suspended in it. The globe itself seems to be in pretty decent shape. There is at least one good sized dent, some minor rust spots, and maybe some spots where tiny pieces of paint have been rubbed off. Overall, I think it still looks pretty good. Great vintage globe. This is a very nice globe. It has a nice 2 position wood base. The globe has a nice large 16" diameter. This was made for school/ institutional use. Although we feel this is in great shape for its age it does show some wear. There is a small smear of paint at the bottom and some on the base. The base also has some loss to the finish. Each disc represents a continent consisting of North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. A Beautiful Unpainted Denoyer Geppert Globe. Very Industrial and a Beautiful Interior Piece. No dents or other dings. It's Big. It's Cool. It's Steel. It has a 63" circumference and 20" diameter and it is 28" tall. Denoyer-Geppert Company- The firm of Denoyer-Geppert was founded in 1916 by Otto E. Geppert and L. Philip Denoyer. Prior to launching their own enterprise. Both had worked for the American branch of W. A. K. Johnston in Chicago. In 1913, through the efforts of Mr. Geppert, Mr. Denoyer, Chairman of the Geography Department, La Crosse, Wisconsin Teachers College, joined the Johnston firm. Three years later, when they founded the Denoyer-Geppert Company, Edinburgh trained R. Baxter Blair became their initial cartographer. The company ceased operations in the early 1980s. Vintage 16" Denoyer Geppert Cartocraft 1960s Physical- Political world globe. It has a 1954 notation. Which dates it to 1955. Mounted on heavy iron adjustable metal stand. Globe and metal both in very good condition. Globe does have a small hole and a couple of scratches, but the large size makes up for it. Spins great. Metal is complete with no cracks.
