This is a very nice small 9" Cram's Imperial cardboard globe made in the late 1980s or early 1990s. It has a cardboard globe mounted on a gold painted base and half meridian with nicely joined gores. It has a metal time dial(looks to be aluminum) And the cartouche reads"COPYRIGHT THE GEORGE F. CRAM COMPANY, INC. INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, MADE IN THE U. S. A. I dated this globe before 1991 because Zaïre's name was changed to the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1997, and Morocco is generally accepted to have ruled the Western Sahara since 1991. Also, fifteen nations were established from the former USSR in 1991. As far as condition, the paper and cardboard construction of the globe are fine, and the paint on the metal components is in very good condition with no oxidation. It lifts off the stand and SWIVELS around when set in BASE. Since this is an old item- there is some discoloration on globe. As well as scuffs. The stand needs polishing on wood. Unable to determine exact age. One Korea. Taiwan called Formosa, one Germany, Hawaii and Alaska referred to as states. This globe rotates nicely and sets firmly in the top and bottom posts. There is the usual discoloration and slight scuffing consistent with a globe of this age, but not enough to detract from its overall character and readability. I have listed some reasons why I beleieve it is from the 60's below. I see no damage to globe. No cracks, no writting, no repairs. The base is clean but has some scrathces from use over the years. Has Germany but no east or west. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics existed between 1922 and 1991. Northern Rhodesia was a territory in south africa formed in 1911. It became independent in 1964 as Zambia. Southern Rhodesia f ollowing its Decleration of Independance in 1965. Vintage Cram's 12 Inch Imperial World Globe with raised terrain and Analemma! Beautiful Vintage Cram's Imperial 12 inch world globe with raised terrain. Has the marking No.1-12 C72. So I was told, but not certain, that dates the globe at 1972- whether that is correct or not I am not sure, however, as pictured, Vietnam is still north and south, it is still the USSR, and in Africa, it is Zaire, not Congo, which helps date the globe. Not the normal blue globe, but greenish antique color. Has Analemma, beautiful brass colored stand, and other wonderful details. All defects are pictured- including a scuff, some fingerprints(can be cleaning probably, but I'm leaving all cleaning up to buyer, I do not want to harm the globe in any way) I found a very faint pen line as well- not distracting. Vintage 1990 Cram's Imperial World Globe in very nice gently used condition. This is the 12" desk model in a lovely tan color and features a wood base. I believe the age of the globe has been accurately determined. As this globe reflects Myanmar vs. Burma, a united Germany vs. West and East Germany, and with the USSR still shown. Nice solid globe that displays nicely. Tiniest of nicks along the edge of the wood base(can be seen in the first picture) Could be easily touched up with a bit of wood stain if so desired. It stands approximately 15 1/2" tall and 7" wide at the bottom of the base. The stand looks like a bronze color. This vintage Cram's Globe does have wear but overall. It is in nice vintage condition and will look great on display. I did find one small hole with a small tear(please see photo) it's not too noticeable. The strip that covers the seam is lifting at the edge of the strip(please see photo) There is some light surface rust under the base. The bronze color on the metal does have scratches and some of the paint is flaked or chipped off. I don't see any dents in the globe or metal parts. The Oceans are a light blue color and the Continents have nice colors. The globe spins nicely. This nice-looking Globe will look wonderful in any home or office! Vintage Cram's Imperial World Globe & Wood Stand 38" Tall-12" Globe
Very nice globe and stand by Cram's. If you notice several of the wood plugs that cover the screws is missing. It really doesn't matter because I have to take the stand apart to ship it and the possibility that I can salvage all of them when I take them out to remove the screws is slim to nothing. You can pick these up at any lowes or home-depot. A lot of the time you can get them already stained to match whatever you are putting them on and they are not very expensive. Just wanted you to know that but I will send any of them I get out without damaging them. Let me know if you have any questions. Visit my store for more vintage items.
