This antique. Heavy wooden finial cap was from a house actually mentioned in the book"Chesapeake" by author James Michener. as Henry Klein's farm) The house was ruined in Hurricane Isabel in 2003 and will be demolished. Chinese Wooden Basket or Bucket with Finial This auction if for a wonderful pot-shaped Chinese basket or bucket with a fu lion(somtimes called"Foo Dog" finial on the lid. The bottom of the piece has a painted flower design that may indicate the maker. There are two metal bands that surround the bowl as shown in the photo. I purchased this at an antique dealer when I lived overseas. He told me that it was an antique rice bucket used in Chinese households and dated from the late 1800's to early 1900's. My online research does seem to confirm this. But I am not an expert in this area. The piece is in good condition. The color and patina of this wonderful basket most closely resembles the first photo. The others were taken with a bright flash and make the wood appear lighter than it is. Elaborately Relief Carved Wooden Finial Knotted Tassel 14 inch
It appears this component was made for a purpose but what that was escapes me. I just marvel at the intricate workmanship and I call it a"finial" because it has the shape of a finial. It may also have been a support section for a piece of furniture because there is a hole at the top that would have received a joinery dowel. I am sure some Altered Artist can make good use of this piece. Whatever it is. It is 14" tall and 6" diameter. Many items I am selling came from a furniture and designcompany that went out of business in 1997. Some pieces were removed fromfurniture that was in disrepair other pieces were left over stock fromarchitectural design projects. Mid-Century Wooden Floor Lamp Base Great Retro Shape, Nice Finial, 1950-1960s
We've a number of 1940s-1960s items from a recent Southern Ohio estate auction. They married right before WWII. After the War. He was part of the Army Corps of Engineers who stayed to help build the“Burma Road” when Israel was becoming a country. We have a few pieces of jewelry that he brought home for his wife, as well as some mid-century furnishings. Late 1950s. Early 1960s– This wooden floor lamp base is a great retro piece. It's 5'3” high to the top of the finial. The finial is a 1” pale yellow glass or lucite ball on a brass base. Nice. The base is a raised circle on three legs. It looks like a squat three-legged stool. The base diameter is 13” There's a nice golden glow to the wood. The center has a slight curve that looks to be original. We found no damage. And everything is tight. It has a Leviton socket. The electric ... morewiring works right now. But it looks original, and we always suggest rewiring for safety. Superb 19th c. Carved Wooden Finial, Architectural Ornament, AAFA, No Reserve
Found in New England. And up for sale without reserve is this great looking and original early American architectural finial. It is solid hardwood and hand carved with the original tan colored painted surface. It is in excellent condition, without chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. There is some age appropriate paint loss. It measures 14" high x 4-5/8" wide. And the base measures 6" x 5-7/8" x 1" thick. Would look great on a mantel, in a garden, or the top of a newel post. Fantastic and completely original Confederate cap pouch or cap box with all the aspects of Confederate construction that stands out as truly Confederate- This four piece hand cut leather cap box is sewn with linen thread through the body and back flap and through a single wide belt loop. A closure tab is secured in place with a turned wood finial. The inside shows sewing through the remains of lambswool. A copy of a Northern counterpart to keep caps from shaking or falling out of the pouch. Surface of the pouch shows cracking and some flaking in the leather. They were purchased in Iowa in the early 70's and have been used as decor pieces since(by themselves on a bookshelf or as bookends) They have their original paint and are in wonderful condition given their age. They were lathed turned and then painted with a silver base coat(waterproofing? then the barn red over that. They have TERRIFIC patina and character! Korean Foo Dog - Wooden Finial?
Interesting little Foo Dog. Or Temple Lion from Korea. This piece is carved from wood, painted in red and gold, and has a slot on the bottom(see pic) indicating it may have been used as a finial for a post or other type of ornamental top piece for something. It looks to be fairly old from the very dry condition of the wood, and shows signs of being lacquered originally. That's about as much as I know about the piece. About 5x4.5x1.25 inches in size, and fairly fascinating.

Vintage Carved Solid Wooden Acorn Finial - 2 1/2"
This wooden acorn finial looks older. But I cannot say for certain how old it may be. It stands 2 1/2 inches tall and at its widest it has a 2 inch diameter. The base has a diameter of about 1 3/8 inches and the hole in the base has a diameter of about 1/2 inch. This finial was very dry and I've cleaned it once with build-up remover and lemon oil; however, it's likely that it will dry out again. The finish is uneven and has wear and shallow scratches, which gives it a nice old patina. However, I believe that it could also be refinished. Posted with
