Description This is a pair of carved oak griffins or gargoyles with large wings. They measures 16-1/2" tall and 4-1/2" wide in front and 8-1/2" deep. They are in good condition- one is missing the oak base and the other is missing the oak top. There is one toe missing on one of them- it is the foot without the base. Each weighs about 4-1/2 pounds. Ornately carved antique oak winged griffin. It is in excellent condition. I found this piece about 15 years ago in Central Wisconsin. It had been removed from an old public building that had been torn down for a shopping center. I have had it displayed in my office since then. But it is time to continue our downsizing and let someone else enjoy it. I am glad I was able to help preserve this piece.it is really nicely done. It is classic gothic style with wings, a crown and a curved tail. It is a heavy piece that weighs about 7 pounds. It appears to have been carved from three pieces of wood. The bottom has two holes that must have been used in the original mounting. It measures: 18" tall from the tip of the wings to the bottom where the holes are, 13" wide and the crown is 4" deep with the main part of the body 2.5" deep. ... moreYou will love this rare piece. Astounding Pair of Guardian Lion or Winged Griffin Corbel Pilaster
These were support pilasters. They have a friendly animated appeal(not horrific or grotesque as some mythological elements) Both pieces are quite sturdy and solid. Each is 16" x 4" x 3 1/4" This item came from a furniture and design company that went out of business in the 1990's. SUPERB 19thc GOTHIC OAK CARVING OF A CHAINED WINGED GARGOYLE WITH LAUREL WREATH
Superb 19thc gothic oak carving of a winged gargoyle with chains around. Excellent attention to detail on this fine and very unusual carving of circular design. Around the border is a laurel wreath. Carved centrally in good deep relief is the figure of a gargoyle- winged and with talons- with a chain around its neck and the chain end being attached to the rock that the creature stands on. To top of carved border are the engraved initials B.D.M.F. Measures some 12.5" height x 8.75" dia x 1" depth. Condition is excellent and age commensurate. All as per images.
