1907 Tapered Square Box Porch Column Post, #1
I have 3 of these tapered. Square box porch columns up for the taking in 3 separate listings. You are bidding on ONE. Column#1 is approximately 56 3/4" tall, 8" square at the top, and about the same at the bottom. All came from a craftsman style home built in 1907, located in Old Town Orange, CA. I have cleaned them by scraping off all loose paint, feathering remaining paint, priming and painting with a antique white, roughing them back up again with a finishing sander, and polishing out with dark floor polish. To these heavenly columns I added the tops so that they be used to display your collectibles. I hate to let them go but one can only keep so much stuff. So let one or all be yours today! The arched portion of all four measure 7" from the inner corner out in both directions. While the sections that mount against the post measure 10 1/8" in both directions on two of the corbels and 9 1/4" in both directions on the other two corbels. Arched sections are 1/2" wide; mounting sections are 1 1/2" wide. I can only assume that the difference is due to the fact that they were handmade for the porch and are not a mass produced product. Unsure of the age of these corbels, but most of the older homes in my area that have these date from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. While these could certainly be re-used on a porch, they would also make delightful shelf brackets or ... morecould be simply used as architectural pieces for display. This auction is for one(1) antique vintage victorian wooden architectural porch spindle post/column. It was removed from our 1896 Victorian home as part of a remodeling project. I have no idea in what year this particular post was put on the porch. Meaning no way for me to know whether it was an original or a replacement somewhere down the line. I only know the year the house was built, and that the post was here when we bought it. It is about 94.5 inches tall, and the squared-off portions above and below the spindle section are 3.25" x 3.25" Measuring from the top to the point where the spindle begins is about 14.5" in length(height) and the spindle part is 39.5" long before the squared-off part starts again. Cast Iron Metal Ornate Victorian Vintage Light Fixture Porch post lamp Garden
Lovely- Heavy- Old- Porch- Wall- Pole Lamp- Garden- Cast Iron Light Fixture I have two of these. Please ask about the other if you are interested. Measures 18-1/2" high X 5-1/4" wide X 5-1/2" deep It is very Heavy and so. Will be mailed in a large flat rate box. The original screws/ hardware are included and I think all are here. There is only finial(two with the other one to be listed separately) The bottom part could be mounted on a pole/ post or the hole could be capped off with cap- nut and bolt or left as is. The piece for the electric light is included- it needs all new wiring. I think it would also look great with a candle or even with a plant inside. The glass is thick. It is a golden yellow color with ripples/ bumps for an old fashioned look. There are some little chips as on the bottom that can be seen in the last ... morephoto. No chips are visible when the lamp it put together. I do not know the age. It has all the charm you could ask for with the ornate cast iron and what I think is an applied aged patina. It is a green and weathered look black. It is very dusty and I will give it a quick cleaning before packing it. Antique Porch Light or Post Mount Cage Lamp Fixture Salvage Non Electric
Please enlarge and review the photos carefully so you can get a sense of just how unusual this lamp really is. We acquired it at an architectural salvage auction. I have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to find another one like it and been unable to do so. It is metal, but I can't guess what kind as it is not terribly heavy for its huge size. I believe it would have been either a porch lamp or a post mounted lamp and may have served to hold either a lantern or a very large candle. It has never been electrified. It would come out almost 12" from wherever it was mounted. The length from the bottom of the ball to the top of the spire is about 19-1/2" The cage part looks like chicken wire. The top lifts up and down and latches so that the lantern or candle can be inserted and/or maintained. The fancy little latch is in ... moreperfect working order. There are no dents and the lamp is actually in very good condition except for the heavy surface rust which has completely overtaken the entire piece. The wire is slightly pushed in. Probably from the lamp having leaned against another object, but it is minor and can probably be easily straightened. I date this piece to the late 1800s or early 1900s. This is an auction piece. Being sold as described, as is. I cannot guarantee that it has not been exposed to odors: smoking, fragrance, cooking, mustiness, mothballs, other types of storage odors or pets.
