Up for bid is a set of antique architectural. Solid walnut under yellow paint staircase balusters or spindles. Sizes are various, because the were on a staircase as opposed to a landing run. The sizes range from 27" 27-1/4" 28-1/4" 30-5/8" and 31-1/2" The all have a dovetail cutout at the bottom, where they would fit into the stair tread of each step. The top is a taper to fit into the bottom of the top rail. There are a few, which are missing some portion of the taper, but for the most part they all appear to be in exceptional condition, some with their original square cut nails still intact. Antique Victorian Porch Balustrades Balusters Railing 24" High & 3" wide 1900
Up for sale are antique victorian stype Balustrade from a mansion built in Bath Maine around 1900. It was built by Honory Albert H. Shaw. In 1936 the home was sold after the death of Albert Shaw and became the Sedgwick Inn. The hotel was named after Sedgwick Place. The junction of High St. Centre and Court streets which contained a soldiers momument built to honro Cival War veterans of the Sedgwick Post, Grand Army of the Republic. The post was named after Gen John Sedgwick, the highest ranking officer killed in the war. It burned down in 1973. Information on the mansion was that the front 2 level porch was build of ash. These balusters might also be built of ash- the actual wood used is not known. These balustrade were said to have been salavaged from that building and were later used on another porch. These were acquired by a family member ... morewhen the porch was rebuilt. There are about 30 of these balustrades available for sale and pick up in Wiscasset. Maine 04578. They measure 24" high and are 3" square at the top and base. The condition is good considering the age. There are some chips and gouges and in some area the paint is pealing. I do have pictures of the Inn that does show the these railings. I also have the full history of the family who build the mansion and the history of the property over the years. I can provide this information to any interested buyer. We would be willing to ship a small quantity of say 2 to 4 at an additional cost to cover the shipping. I understand that these are popular as candle holders. This would be great for a porch restoration or even used in a garden back drop. Has lots of potential! Description This is a collection of staircase parts that were salvaged from a Victorian Mansion in Clarion. PA. Everything is made of walnut and is unpainted. There are 41 great turned balusters each measuring 29 to 30 inches tall by almost 2 inches square at the base. Railings measure 101. 71 and 30 long. They are 4 wide. The newel post has turnings and an 8 sided shaft. It measures 40.75 tall including the cap by 6.75 square at the base. It is notched at the base. Your bid buys the lot. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. 2 sections of railing had balusters reset and old holes plugged. 19 inch tall pair Antique Wood Balusters. Chippy Paint Both measure 19 and 1/4 inches tall. Ends are approx 2 3/4 square on one end and 2 7/8 square on opposite ends. These have been lightly washed but would clean up more if needed. Old white over a yellowish putty color paint. Old growth pine with tight grain. No splits. Ends are original old cuts and unpainted. Condition: Original dry oxidized crackled painted surface due to age. Some paint loss and nail holes. Each baluster shows one nail hole where the wood split off a tiny bit. Up for auction is a(lot of 6) antique wooden stair balusters in excellent condition. They are solid with no rot but do have crackled layers of white paint and some nicks. Also there are nail holes in the ends(see photo#6) They are 18" in length and the square ends are 1 7/8" x 1 7/8" I have 20 of these available so if anyone would like to purchase more than 6.
