Description This is a pair of carved oak griffins or gargoyles with large wings. They measures 16-1/2" tall and 4-1/2" wide in front and 8-1/2" deep. They are in good condition- one is missing the oak base and the other is missing the oak top. There is one toe missing on one of them- it is the foot without the base. Each weighs about 4-1/2 pounds. It had been removed from an old public building that had been torn down for a shopping center. I have had it displayed in my office since then. But it is time to continue our downsizing and let someone else enjoy it. I am glad I was able to help preserve this piece.it is really nicely done. It is classic gothic style with wings, a crown and a curved tail. It is a heavy piece that weighs about 7 pounds. It appears to have been carved from three pieces of wood. Nice older pair of carved wood corbels. Brackets, or shelf holders or whatever. An unknown type of wood, but if I were guessing, I would say walnut, has that Eastlake look. Interesting pieces of carved wood. Almost 8" long, 2 7/8" wide, and 1 1/8" thick. Have holes in the back for pegs to hold this on whatever if came off of. Has no finish that I can tell. May have originally held a shelf on an old pump organ, dresser, or dining room piece, maybe even off an old mantle. Anyway, very nice. This is an antique pair of carved. Gilt ogee shelves or corbels. These shelves/corbels were found at the estate of a world traveler. They are very heavy, likely 5-7lbs each. The primary wood appears to be black walnut with a secondary wood of oak. This pair shows some minor chipping showing a base gesso covered by a reddish color and then gold coloration. These have some good age to them, and do have some old evidence of worms(not active) They measure 13" long by 5 1/2" high. by 6 3/4" deep. The actual tops are 11 1/2" long by 6" deep. Wonderful Antique Carved Art Nouveau Figural Shelf Overall very good condition. There is wear from age but the surface has a good. Old patina. NOT refinished and needs a good cleaning. This is made of a softwood and is not all one block, rather it is 2 pieces that were glued together to make the thickness, but it is very hart to tell-it appears as one solid piece. There are some new scrapes and dings and an old chip. Plus 3 newer holes drilled for mounting. 2 of the holes are in the outer corners and one is at the lower center of the piece. about 10" tall x 19" wide x 5-1/2" deep. Antique Architectural Item, Carved Wood Wall Light Bracket Sconce Arm in Gold
Antique Carved Wood Architectural Piece. Wall Sconce Up for your consideration is this nice antique wood wall sconce or light bracket/arm. Gold or gilt in color. Has a wall base with an arm extending from the base with a carved laurel detail, could have been an electrified piece at one time with a threaded metal tubing opening at the back and at the top of the extended piece, there is a small piece taken out of the base(see pic) and it has a crack at the inside of the arm close to the base that is cracked through but still intact although it is loose. Not sure if it is staying in place because of the metal tubing inside or it is has been pinned but I would reinforce it somehow if you use it to hold anything. The wall base has a 6 1/2" diameter, it extends outward 8 1/2" the back is painted black so I am unsure of the wood type and ... morethe age.it does have a very nice look. Sold As Is. Antique Wood Hand Carved Bearded Man/Knight Corbel/Shelf
A stunning hand carved antique corbel featuring the face of a bearded man. His headwear suggests he might be a knight or a saint(given that he's wearing a visor) and perhaps this corbel comes from a church. The origin is unknown. Corbel was removed from its original position and attached with a wire in the back to be hung up on a wall. Presumably 1800s. Item is in good condition for its age- the wood has expanded over time in some places causing some cracks and there is a chipping on the nose as well as above the face. On the rim of the rectangular shelf part(as seen in photos) It is made of solid wood and quite heavy- corbel weighs 5.3 lbs. Pair 19C Carved Plaster / Chalk Swans Wall Brackets Shelf Corbel Vintage Antique
Graceful lines. Flowers and swans adorn these mid-19 th century corbel shelves. We think they are plaster. But they could be chalk. They are very nicely carved, very heavy, and very dirty. The shelves are about 7.5" high. 7.75" wide, and 4.5" deep. There is a hanging hook on the back of each one. They are in very good vintage condition. One of them had a little red something on it. We rubbed it very lightly with a wet towel, and most of it came off, so we think it will clean completely. There are also a few small age-appropriate scrapes on the top of the shelves, and one small chip- see the last picture. Please see the pictures. The CK details: We go to auctions in spurts.
