I bought it 20 years ago when we were building our Italian style home and traveling in Italy for Italian majolica for architectural features. This one did not find a spot and I finally realized that I need to part with the beauty! This mural depicts the Temple of Vesta in the Forum in Rome. It is signed by the artist on the right bottom corner-Tan Correale Italy. The back of each of the almost 7 7/8" tiles is marked DASS Made in Italy. Antique Villeroy & Boch Mettlach Art Deco Floor Medallion 4 Tiles 13" Square
For your consideration is this group of 4 art deco floor tiles by Villeroy and Boch with a total of 7 groups available. Each of the 4 tiles measure 6 5/8" square. Making a medallion that measures about 13 1/4" and are about 5/8" thick. They were likely floor tile and I would guess date to the first quarter of the 20th century. When placed together 4 tiles form an intricate, colorful medallion with a bold geometric design. Each tile is signed but alot of them have just enough mortar residue to fill in most of the signature. They are very nice but they are used, salvaged from a building and stashed in the St. Louis area. Virtually every tile will have some very minor edge chips, some color variation and varying degrees of mortar and grout residue. Nothing that detracts from the strong graphics of these unusual tiles. Lot of 9 Vintage Glass Prism Tiles. Very Good Condition. Pale Yellow Color 4"x4" Sale is for a lot containing 9 Vintage Glass Prism Tiles. These were removed from the basement alley windows of an old General Store built around 1900. Originally they came in a copper and lead frame and were removed so the copper could be recycled( not by me) They are in great condition with some bubbles. And a slightly wavy texture front and back. The prisms are nice and sharp but may have the odd very small chip in them. They also have a bevel all the way around were they fit into the old 1/4" frame and this makes the edges a little rough on some of them. Measurements are +- 4-1/4" x 4-3/16" x 1/4" to top of prisms. Prisms themselves are about 1/6" high. The color is a pale yellow which is I guess indicative of the type of ... moreglass they were made from. I've tried to take picture to give a sense of the color but of course your light might be slightly different then mine and taking a decent picture of glass was harder then I thought. There is no manufacturers name or stamp on them. Pictures are representative of all for sale. Please review all pictures for more information on condition and contents. I'm calling them shabby in my title because all of them have small chips and damage to some degree- but none that affect the structure(no cracks etc. The two used ones are the worst- one of the tiles has a shallow edge chip that runs 2" at the bottom edge by a narrow 1/8-1/4" See photo 14. Both tiles have chips abd rubs to the faces of the high relief pink flowers, and teenie ones on their edges all around. You can see and feel the cement at the back that was used to attach them, and you can see that both tiles are heavily crazed all over. Next are two different tiles- one with a light moss green background and the other with light blue. The one with the moss green is marked"Made in Japan" on the backside along with a maker's mark that has the initials"FM" in the center. This is the only tile that I can find a mark on. Size- Each tile is about 6 inches by 6 inches Square These 4 tiles are in EXCELLENT condition and I have photographed the minor chips in the edges I can see. These tiles DO NOT appear to have ever been set as the backs are clean. This is a set of 4 each matching tiles- made by The Campbell Tile Co. Stoke Upon Trent: The partnership between Colin Minton Campbell and Michael Daintry Hollins ended in 1868. It produced a split in the famous Minton company. With Campbell in charge of china production at Minton's China Works, and Hollins producing tiles of various types at Minton, Hollins& Co. Campbell also started to produce tiles, but it was not until he took over an existing tileworks in 1875 that production of encaustic and mosaic floor tiles began. Stayed at a fabulous B&B in South Dakota- made even more heaven by the fact that they also had an antique store on the property. I shopped in several other locations in both states and brought home some great primitives. Advertising, pottery, and all in all interesting finds. Before I left, I went to a new farm auction, and an estate auction- so I have a BUNCH of new items this week- I’ll be posting every day, so be sure to check back! I think I told you a couple of weeks ago that I bought a lot of old ceramic tiles. I grouped those together that match. And those that did not match, I grouped together by"theme" these being a green theme! What I have is a lot of 4 vintage, ... moreearly 1900s ceramic tiles- all measuring 6" square, and all used- with varying degrees of plaster at the backside from when they were removed. 2 are marked"DK Japan, one is marked Danto Kaisha Japan, which is the same company, and the 4th- I cannot see the mark because of the plaster, but I do think it looks to be the same company. I am calling them shabby in my title, because of the plaster on the backs, the crazing on the fronts, and the teenie small chips on the edges and high relief spots of the tiles- all minor, for their age- and they are in excellent structural condition. Each one had a numbered lable on it when I bought them, and the remnants of the label needs to be removed but will come off- they are dirty and need to be cleaned- I have not tried to clean them in any way. The colors are gorgeous- white backgrounds and deep mossy green accented with darker shades of green, and shades of gold and rose, depending on the tile. I think they are all beautiful- whether together or apart- you can't go wrong- the one word that comes to mind is FABULOUS! Please ask if you have any questions.
