Antique 19th century beautifully-carved matched marble corbels
This is a striking and beautifully-carved. Matched-design pair of marble corbels that date to the 19th century. My guess is that they are of Italian origin but I do not know for certain- most of the best carved marble came from Italy at that time. These could have been used on a fireplace, or as some decorative element inside a wealthy home or mansion. Both carry an identical floral design with a rose in the center. While the designs match and I feel comfortable calling them a pair, there are very slight differences in the sizes. Both are 10&1/4" high. One is 7&1/4" across the base in the back, while the other is 7&3/4. One is 3&3/4" deep at the center of the scroll on the bottom, while the other is 3&1/2. They were obviously carved as a pair and so I cannot tell you why there is such a slight difference. ... moreLooking at them, you would never see any difference whatsoever. Each weighs about 17 pounds. Condition is as found and as shown. There are a few rough edges on the rosebuds, possibly just natural wear, but nothing of consequence as to the overall look. On the bottom center of each, there is an area where they were attached- there is some marble roughly cut out there but that was probably done deliberately in order to secure them to a wall. Antique Vintage 4 Matching Solid Wood Salvage Architectural Corbels
These are 4 matching corbels which are in very good condition. They have no missing parts and no rotten wood with only normal wear due to age. They are made from solid wood and weigh about 3 1/4 pounds each. Can be used for any architectural project that you might have. They measure 16 1/2" high. 4 1/2" wide by 5" deep at the widest point. I really do not know the age of these corbels, but for safety purposes, I did remove large cut nails which were used to fasten them to the house, I hope this helps with dating them. PAIR LARGE ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE WOOD CORBELS CHIPPY PAINT
Please scroll down under this description for additional views. Large pair of architectural exterior corbels from a Victorian house. One is slightly taller than the other which is only noticeable when they are side-by-side. One is 20" tall while the second one is 20 1/2" tall. Both are 11" deep and 5 1/4" wide. Constructed from five laminated 1" thick solid pine boards. The outermost board on each side are jigsaw cut away to add design and depth, the fronts alternate the depth of the profile slightly to add interest straight on. There is such a build-up of old paint that the faces almost look coated with stucco but its just newer paint over old chippy alligatored paint. Very sturdy, these will definitely make a design statement whether you set them on a mantel, hearth or table or use them as shelf supports. Aren't these great? I love to use vintage architectural pieces whether it's here on our alpaca farm or in the city. They are great conversation pieces and offer a myriad of uses! These are solid wood and I do not have the knowledge of what type of building they have come from. Corbels in our area are on homes that were built before the 1900s but they could be from the 20s or 30s as well. Uses that I have seen are a decorative piece that was used as a support bracket for the front porch but they were widely used in other aspects of decor as well. Usually they weren't weight bearing. I don't know why I just gave you a bit of history but there you go: I love the character of the paint but it is chipping and has loads of patina because this was an outdoor item. I would suggest spraying it with a clearcoat if you would like to preserve the finish. There are lots of dings and dents but are truly a beautiful piece for bookends. LARGE OLD VICTORIAN HOUSE PAINTED CORBELS I have several old antique items to sell at my folks old house that I thought would best be liquidated here on Ebay. Beautiful old corbels. These were very carefully taken off the house a couple months ago and are in really great condition for the age. Pieces are solid and not in a decaying or crumbly state. All are matching off the same house etc. but each corbel is unique with typical wear that would be naturally indigenous to this period and use on the house. They are easy to plaster before painting to reconstruct. Fill in any damage, or cover nail holes. There is a chunk missing as pictured in the front on the one rounded part. THEY MEASURES: About 26 inches tall. 14" deep, and 3" WIDE The flat rate shipping is for the lower 48 states. Pick up at our home is free if buyer wishes.
