Were used in houses in patios and water piles both as decoration and to protect constructions from water splash. Also were used in cupolas in main churches of our country. Recently Catalogued by Uruguay architect Artucio Ref. Catalogo de Azulejos Franceces del Siglo XIX" each tile pattern was numbered. And more than 200 patterns were classified. This is an excellent work and reveals for instance that major ports for these tiles exportations was Montevideo(Uruguay capitol) and Argel(Algeria) These wonderful tiles( azulejos carreaux) are one of most exquisite item you can acquire for your home decor. They match very well either with traditional ... moreor modern architecture. Used like accents or as in frieze in the outside. On stoves and fireplace with wood, summing up they will go well with everything. Mixing different patterns is a good idea too. As you will have a uniform looking as all these tiles were done using the same white tone and just blue and dark violet but also variety of patterns. This is a beautiful tile frieze- Five of the tiles put together make up the design. Then there are three extra tiles of the ones with the fle ur-de-lis in the middle. They can just be put in with the freize to make it longer and have eight total together. This set of tiles is an original antique set. All of them do have chips. Some small, some large. Majolica Art Nouveau Tiles(Set Of Ten) These tiles are from my own house which dates c.1901. We found a number of tiles on two fireplace hearths when replacing our carpets. These tiles are in fair condition as can be seen from the photos. There may be some remnants of cement on the face of the tiles. And cement on the edges and backs. I am including the zoom facility on the photos so that the detail can be seen. I am not in the business of hiding things and I want everyone to know what they may be getting. Some of the tiles have chips, cracks, scraps etc- which is why I am selling these as a set. Two of the tiles have broken edges but these are included and do fit back together. I am well aware from my research that there is a large fraternity of tile collectors out there who know more about tiles than I will forget. So I am not pretending ... moreto be any expert. I am aware of the terms'moulded' and'tube lined' and have read a number of conflicting views on what these are. I think these tiles are moulded, but I will leave that decision to the experts. ANTIQUE SET VICTORIAN AESTHETIC MOVEMENT ORIENTAL BLUE & WHITE FLOWER TILES 1890
You are invited to bid on this set of four antique Victorian ceramic tiles dating to approx. c1890's. These lovely Aesthetic Movement tiles have been decorated with stylised oriental flowers on leafy stems with a pattern band border. They bear no makers marks and each tile measures 6" square. Generally these tiles are in good antique condition. There is slight discolouration to one tile with two small old chips. A couple of small chips on the edge of another tile, rubbing on the edges and general age related crazing. A lovely set of Aesthetic Movement ceramic tiles. Set of 4 Antique Encaustic Floor Tiles made in England. Size- Each tile is about 6 inches by 6 inches Square These 4 tiles are in EXCELLENT condition and I have photographed the minor chips in the edges I can see. These tiles DO NOT appear to have ever been set as the backs are clean. This is a set of 4 each matching tiles- made by The Campbell Tile Co. Stoke Upon Trent: The partnership between Colin Minton Campbell and Michael Daintry Hollins ended in 1868. It produced a split in the famous Minton company. With Campbell in charge of china production at Minton's China Works, and Hollins producing tiles of various types at Minton, Hollins& Co. Campbell also started to produce tiles, but it was not until he took over an existing tileworks in 1875 that production of encaustic and mosaic floor tiles began. This business was originally ... morestyled the Minton Brick& Tile Co. though a lawsuit brought by Hollins forced Campbell to drop'Minton' from the name. RARE 1930's PILKINTON BROS Ltd- Vitrolite Sample Tiles- Salesman Sample Set A very rare complete set of Salesman Vitrolite sample tiles made by'Pilkington Bros Ltd' Vitrolite was a product of Pilkington Brothers at St Helens& was one of a range of glass products widely used in the 1930's& through into the 1960's for large scale cladding& for shop fascias& interiors. It also provided a hygienic wall surface for things such as operating theatres& vitreous cladding in environments like hairdressing salons. Available here is a set of encaustic fireplace tiles made by Trent Company. There are 11 six inch tiles with a floral/vine/three leaf clover pattern. Included in the tiles are 2 corner tiles. One top center tile and one end"L" tiles. shown in center) Beautiful colors of aqua and brown. Color change can be arranged differently if desired. Colors are much more pretty than photos depict. All of the tiles exhibit crazing consistent with age. They have very little to no concrete grout on the back. They are all marked“TRENT” on the back. When placed together correctly. The floral/vine tiles form a continuous flowing pattern. There is one tile with small chips no bigger than 1/4” near the edge. Other than that the tiles are in good condition with no major issues.
