Set of 4 Antique Encaustic Floor Tiles made in England. Size- Each tile is about 6 inches by 6 inches Square These 4 tiles are in EXCELLENT condition and I have photographed the minor chips in the edges I can see. These tiles DO NOT appear to have ever been set as the backs are clean. This is a set of 4 each matching tiles- made by The Campbell Tile Co. Stoke Upon Trent: The partnership between Colin Minton Campbell and Michael Daintry Hollins ended in 1868. It produced a split in the famous Minton company. With Campbell in charge of china production at Minton's China Works, and Hollins producing tiles of various types at Minton, Hollins& Co. Campbell also started to produce tiles, but it was not until he took over an existing tileworks in 1875 that production of encaustic and mosaic floor tiles began. Set of (4) Art Deco Ceramic Tile Medallion Villeroy & Boch Mettlach
For your consideration is this group of 4 art deco ceramic tiles. They are signed by the maker. Villeroy& Boch, Mettlach and measure about 6 3/4" square and 5/8" thick. It would be my guess that they were made as floor tile and likely date to the 1920's or 30's. They have an overall impressed geometric pattern that combines with a central pinwheel shape that gives a dramatic art deco look. Each one has varying amounts of mortar residue on the back as well as some very minor edge wear but nothing that detracts. Very special and rare tile set we say TEGELTABLEAU overhere in the Netherlands. This was from a old Farm in a small coast place a fishing village called Katwijk i believe the gentleman on the tiles is wearing the traditional clothing from Katwijk. He is sharpening his knife The farm was i do not know the right word but it is gone at this time broken? We only know th efasrm was build in the 1700 the correct age from the tiles is difficult to say the local dealer believes it is dated from the age the farm was builded of some years before. the size is for one tile 100 X 150 MM milimeters! 12X They will be sold as on the pics and probably needs some work or restauration? When it came out a relative glued it on a carton plate not very smart thing to do but anyway there was no idea off how special it was they only liked it for the decorative part. ... moreLast month when a local antiquar had to do some valuations overhere at my mothers home he told us to bring this item at auction and we cold be surprised so there it is for international customers becuase he believed this can be loved by people all over the world. The shipping is not discussable also if the buyer is in the netherlands it wil remaine the same!
