Up for auction today is this ANTIQUE CHINESE CARVED WOOD ARCHITECTURAL ELEMENT- CORBEL- SHIP ORNAMENTATION? We found this amazing piece of ornamental ... morearchitecture at a recent estate sale! The age is unknown but its believed to date to the late 1800s. Exactly what it is we do not know- a corbel? a ship's decorative support? temple ornamentation? Unfortunately. It's history was unavailable and our attempts to research the piece have produced nothing. We do know it's Chinese- made of wood and hand carved with incredible detail! Hopefully someone looking knows what it is- or(like ourselves) just finds it an intriguing conversation piece! It does have a relatively substantial amount of wear and tear to the wood from age and exposure to elements- the pictures provided show the actual condition- there are multiple cracks. Chips, erosion and discoloration of the wood, and what may be insect damage. The decorative carvings are fragile with some pieces having chipped away over the years but overall it is still an amazing piece of art that with some TLC could make for a wonderful addition to any collection or perhaps can be repurposed for more practical use! It measures ~ 14 1/2" in length. ~ 5 5/8" wide, and stands ~ 7 7/8" tall. Not only is this a large piece- it is also a heavy piece so shipping costs should be taken into consideration when bidding! We will w rap this as best we are able- however. Please remember it is fragile and small pieces may break off in transit. We will insure the package at our expense for the winning bidder. This is an antique corbel from a 1902 farmhouse in Nebraska. They were tearing down the house. How sad. Anyway took the corbels and made hooks with them. I sealed and preserved the paint, cut a keyhole hanger in back and used a cutter and put a round hole for a black Akro Agate marble in center. These also have the holes from the old square nails. A piece of American History being preserved. Wood measures 5 1/2" square x 1 3/4" thick.

Each measuring 11" long, 5-1/4" tall and about 3/4" thick. Featuring original old creamy white paint, these once graced a front porch, mounted between two columns. I always planned in using these somewhere, just never got around to mounting them- they both have a tiny pair of dowels mounted to the base which was how there were originally pinned into place. Condition is very nice with no cracks, hairlines, major chips or damage- lots of paint wear, scuffing, chipping and dirt cased in the cuttings- does not detract a bit. If you trim the tiny dowels off, the two sections can be joined or pushed together to create a neat round centerpiece for a table- or they look ... moregreat just decorating the mantle as a backdrop for other old painted architectural items. The corbel is made of solid wood, has a gorgeous hand carved floral design with an art deco accent piece attached, a metal screw that is already attached on the flat side along with two other predrilled holes. Measures over all 16"in. tall. 11 1/4"in. wide, and 2 1/4"in. deep. EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION. Has wea r. A few chips along the edges, rust on the metal s crew. Discoloration to the wood on the bottom accent piece. And the end of the bottom piece a ppears that the wood has been shaved or split off(as seen in photo) Is numbered"1" on the backside. Vintage Architectural Sage Green Wooden Corbel Wall Hanging
A beautiful architectural carved wooden sage green wall hanging corbel. Its base is a common two tier type. While the main show piece is carved with 6 rounded lines surrounded by 3 rectangular lines leading to the bottom which comes out to form a curve. There are two pieces missing at the top where a more intricate trim probably sat at one time. The top is bare revealing the true color of the wood. There are many chips and cracks in the paint, 3 missing chunks of wood, and some small cracks in the wood suggesting the this piece has been through quite a bit over time, making it a perfect decorative piece. The back is equiped with a wall hanging made of wire attatched to a sawtooth wall hanger. You could use this as a shelf as well because the top is even. The back measures 8 3/4" high x 8 1/4" wide.
