JUST OUT OF AN ESTATE I FOUND THIS FRAMED VICTORIAN TILE. THOUGH IT IS UNSIGNED ON BACK IT IS AN EARLIER DOCUMENTED MINTON HOLLIS TILE WITHOUT A DOUBT. IT IS FROM THE SHAKESPEAR SERIES. SIGNED IN IMAGE ON FAR LEFT MOYR SMITH. THOUGH THE FRAME IS MUCH LATER THE PRIOR OWNER CHOSE A GOOD STRONG TIGER MAPLE WOOD. THEY USED SOME KIND OF ADHESIVE TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. THOUGH IT IS SLIGHTLY LOOSE ON ONE EDGE I DIDNT WANT TO TRY TO PRY IT OUT IN ANY WAY AS NOT TO DAMAGE OR CRACK THE TILE THOUGH WITH SOME CAREFUL EFFORT IM SURE IT CAN BE REMOVED. There has been a book written about Loebnitz tiles and they adorn palaces and significant building in France. These are from a fireplace surround. There are 10 listed. It measures approx. 5-3/4" wide x 11-7/8" long and 2-1/2" deep. They are signed"J Loebnitz. Paris(F) on the side also with a J and an X. They have a highly raised design and are 2 different shades of a dark green. They are in very good condition with slight imperfections expected from 120+ year-old tiles.

Beautiful! For auction today we have one vintage Italian majolica tile signed by Emanuele Terzani. A very colorful. Multi-colored and hand painted tile, framed. Original frame hanger was replaced with what you see here, and small nails slightly protrude through frame front. Terzani signature in lower left corner. Tile itself measures 8 X 4 inches. And framed measurements are 10.5 X 7 inches. Features a multi-colored, dancing, masked court jester. There is even, heavy crazing throughout, and a crack at about the center mark, near the jester's waist. Reverse side has very light printing: Made in Italy. This tile was made by the Minton China Works around 1879. It is part of a series of tiles designed by William Wise called `Animals of the Farm` it is printed in shades of brown on a white ground. The tile shows a cow and a calf in a cattle shed.The tile is 6 inches square. It has the Minton factory marks on the back. and the signature of W.Wise 1879 just below the rear legs of the cow The tile is in good condition.

Rare Vintage Artist Signed TALAVERA TILE MURAL ~ Old Mission ~ 12 tiles WOW! What a great lot of vintage Mexican hand painted tiles! And they tell a story! These wonderful vintage tiles. 12 in all, are hand painted to display a wonderful old church building, probably in ancient Mexico. They both have crosses on the roofs. These are wonderfully hand painted and are marked on the back with C-L-A-S-A Hecho en Mexico( made in Mexico) and there is a sort of bird figure in the middle of the stamp. Each tile measures 4 1/4 inch X 4 1/2 inch, and the 12 of them fit together like a puzzle. All are in good shape with normal minor wear, and one with a tiny chip on the corner. They do have age crazing that helps attest to their age. A wonderful find. Glue them to a board and frame them, or use to complete a table top. Just a really wonderful set of these ... moretiles. This is a stunning and very large hand painted panel tile depicting a young Pre-Raphaelite man with moustache. This piece is seriously well painted with bright colours. It is signed by the artist to the front LTJ and dated 1882. I do not know who the artist is but it is painted by a skilled hand. It is unmarked to the reverse. But as we have a similar tile listed, by the same hand, we assume it to be a Copeland example. It is in excellent condition. There are a few tiny glaze frits to the edge as seen in the images, a chip to the corner and a shallow slither chip to the other corner. It measures 41cm/ 16" tall and 20cm/ 8" wide. Visible tile measures 2 3/4 inches by 5 3/4 inches. It is hand painted in great detail and framed in a molded frame with gilt liner having loss to gypsum and gilding as shown. It is really a masterpiece miniature. mat on back is taped in place with masking tape so an cleanup and perhaps a frame change/ repair would be a good idea. The back is also signed and dated. This is a square Delft tile. In mint condition. It is four incher square, with no chips, cracks, or dings. It depicts a windmill and house on the pond. The windmill is surrounded by reeds and little inlets with trees in the background. The original sticker is still on the front. The back has markings in the tile, one is a G within a wreath, another has a series of numbers(24, 17, 6, and a 2 on the bottom line) This is a nice vintage tile.
