This map is from a very rare 1868 illustrated textbook entitled"National Geographical Series: Revised Edition, An Improved System of Geography Designed for Schools, Academies and Seminaries By Francis McNally” published by A. S. Barnes and Co. 111 and 113 William Street, New York. Maps are full color- very attractive and interesting! This map has the Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island(with an inset of the vicinity of Boston) on one side and miscellaneous geography lessons or information on the flip side. Scale is 1 inch equals about 20 miles. Map shows latitude and longitude lines. Pages are about 11 7/8 inches by 9 ... more¾ inches. The pages have some age spots and almost all have small rectangles of paper missing from the margin where the pages were bound, but does not affect the viewing area. See pictures. All pages are slightly yellowed from age but map colors are bright and clear. Maps may have small dog-eared corners or small pieces of corners or margins missing. Also edges are no longer razor sharp. See individual pictures. This page has some small rust spots and one rust spot about 1/2 inch in diameter. Every map has a page number in one margin. It was produced using a process called cerography where a wax engraving plate was used to imprint the paper. After which, the map was hand colored. Details include: large and small mountain ranges. Mountain peaks, rivers, creeks, lakes, cities, towns and upon close examination what appears to be railroad lines. Carefully removed from an 1875 atlas. There is mild age toning, smudging and minor staining in margins. Small amount of paper loss in lower margin. Map protrudes into the margins. As with all old paper, there will be imperfections such as foxing, age toning, staining, splits, uneven edging and possibly unrelated printing on the back side. We strive to capture these details within the photos. Should you have any questions about a print or map you are interested in, please do not hesitate to ask. Most old maps and prints were originally issued in a bound form. We do not actively“break” books and atlases for prints and maps. Especially books in the very good to fine condition where market value would deter this. Only on the rare occasion where a book is in poor condition and has lost desirability due to low shelf appeal but the contents are still in good condition and worthy of preservation.
