Centered on the city of Portland, this map covers from Westbrook to Long Island and from the mouth of the Presumpscot River to Trundy Point. This 1866 map represents the culmination of the Coast Survey's work in the vicinity of Portland. Unlike earlier issues, this example presents rich topographical detail as well as hydrographical data. There are countless depth soundings throughout and the left-hand quadrants feature sailing instructions, notes on tides and light houses, and a wealth of other practical information for the mariner. Issued by the Portland Railroad Company, this map covers from Mt. Washington in the north to Cape Elizabeth in the south and from the Saco River eastward as far as China Lake. Bottom margin contains a legend for trolley lines, steam railroad and steamer lines. The map gives an overview of Maine and details'Fast interurban service connecting Portland, Biddeford, Bath, Lewiston, Auburn, Gardiner, Hallowell, Augusta, Winthrop, Togus and Waterville. This listing is for an 1855 US Coast Survey Chart of Portland. Maine. It measures 25"x21.5" It's shrink wrapped, so I couldn't get a very good picture of it. It has fold creases. We bought this at an estate auction. The 80 year old gentleman who had it, collected art and old documents, and sold them in his gallery. He retired, and this has been in storage, for 10 or 20 years. He had a $175 price tag on it.

It is from Rand McNally's Atlas of the World with a copyright date of 1895 printed on the map in small print. It is not matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as shown in the main pic.Overall. A very nice map that would frame up well. Size: The dimensions of the map area between the neat lines measures 9 1/4 by 12 3/4 inches(24x33cm) on a page measuring 11 by 14" 28x36cm) with a margin all around as seen in the main pic. Condition: The map is in Very Good condition with very light tonal aging. Very clean. It is basically as seen in the pics. There is a short ... moretear on the top edge repaired on reverse and a few minor light smudges in the margin, otherwise it is very clean and would frame up well, see the pic for more on condition. Cunningham, 126 Main St. Bangor. In really good shape, with only one half-inch tear at a fold on the left side. Cover has toning and a few small stains at bottom. 24x20" See scan for Condition.
