They are printed on paper that is not acid free and in most cases have not been stored in the best way. So the maps you are buying will be in a condition that reflects both of these facts. The map you get may be worn or lightly torn along the fold lines due to the acidity of the paper and being folded for years. They may also be discolored or mottling spots again due to the acidity of the paper. The borders of the maps may also have small tears. This wonderful map is an original antique document and not a reproduction or copy. It showcases the railroads. Cities, towns and villages that made up the region in 1852. Unlike many maps of this era, the 1852 date is boldly printed along the lower left edge of the paper. The map was published prior to the Civil War by S. Augustus Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was one of a handful of 19th century cartographers who made his fortune producing accurate. Finely detailed maps and atlases. The map features muted hand-painted colors and old-fashioned lettering. It is easy to read and offers more detail than many maps of this vintage. Page is 11" x 14" There is a very slight crease on the bottom right hand corner of the MA side. These antique maps have become popular works of art when matted and framed.
