It is attached top and bottom with the original rods. Some creasing and light stains are visible but the original color is vibrant and the map is crisp. Drawn on a scale of 1 1/4 inches to a mile. The hand colored map includes population statistics, a list of businesses in New Haven and Waterbury, a table of agricultural statistics and another showing distances between towns. There are inset plans of New Haven County Towns and 12 engraved scenes that depict Yale College, the New Haven railroad station and others. Antique Map 1850 Town of Huntington Fairfield County Connecticut -Now Shelton CT
Map in good condition shows names of landowners between 1830 and 1858 in what is Fairfield Co. We know this because it shows Well's Hollow turnpike which was built and named in1830. It also shows Huntington Turnpike which did not exist until 1830. Later edition maps in late 1850's of Huntington shows different names and no turnpikes. The line and xxxxx pattern around the map matches those of other CT city maps in the Patterson collection of 1850 maps. Huntington was named after Samuel Huntington. Who was President of the Continental Congress, in 1789 and was changed to Shelton in 1919. This is a find for genealogical reference and to anyone who had relatives in Fairfield County CT.
