Condition: Unspecified Location: Glen Mills, United States This is an English. Circa 1820, six drawer chest or dresser. It is made with thick, bookmatched mahogany veneer over pine, double raised panel sides, ... moreand fluted columns resting on strong spade feet. The original Egyptian Revival gilt brasses celebrated Britain's 1798 defeat of Napoleon in The Battle of the Nile, and the subsequent discoveries of Egyptian art and culture. The chest is 50" high, 40 3/8" wide, and 23 1/8" deep. Five drawers are approximately 6 3/4" high, and the bottom drawer is 8 1/2" high. I cannot find a maker's identification, but the frame and drawers are hand numbered in pencil. This chest was professionally refinished approximately 30 years ago, and it has been used irregularly since that time. Small areas in the secondary wood of the drawers were filled at the time of refinishing, but this appears to have been done for cosmetic purposes only. There is no movement in any of the joinery including the legs, and the drawers work very well for a chest of this age. As is appropriate, I suspect the chest with drawers weighs 250 lbs. There are age appropriate scratches and bumps here and there, and particularly on the top and top drawer face. Also, there is long-term wear to the veneer at the location of the ring pulls. Many of the hardware posts(which hold the ring pulls) have been replaced, and the two original posts on the bottom drawer are a bit loose. Further, some of the nuts that fasten the pulls to the drawers have been replaced. Lastly, one of the drawer locks is missing, as is the key. I would recommend Ball and Ball, Exton for the repair, replacement and or keying of the locks. I believe the clean lines and strong profiles of this chest exemplify good Regency furniture. This type of chair is named after King Dagobert I(603-639 ... moreAD) Dagobert’s tomb, remade in the thirteenth century under Gothic influence, can be seen at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Denis. This specific chair was made during the Renaissance revival period and is heavily sculpted with the classical patterns of this era. The central slat is nicely sculpted with acanthus leaves and mounted with a cartouche flanked by detailed Lion’s Heads, all standing on the curved seat below, with nicely scrolled armrests on each side, supported by a sturdy X-shaped pediment with H-shaped stretcher for stability. Several minor scratches and dents can be seen due to the age. Circa date 1880. Dimensions: 35”high/ 14”seat height/ 23”wide/ 21”deep Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and charges. Knudsen did most of the 1,092 hours as a carpenter, 100 hours were done by Viélèle, who died at 85 and 85, respectively. 80 centimes per hour was paid. The most expensive was the intricate chasing of the bronze set made by Sartori in 1903 at 700 francs, while the set for the 1906 version by Goujon was billed at 599 francs. After the economic crisis depression of 1893, Sligh diversified his manufacturing interests into bicycles as well as furniture. The bicycle operation was merged in 1896 with another manufacturer from Ohio to form the Hamilton-Kenwood Cycle Co. Beginning in 1903 Sligh formed other lumber companies, including the Charles Sligh Timber Co. the Clark-Sligh Timber Co. and the Grand Rapids Timber Com. which invested in timberlands in the U.S. Northwest. NICE Solid Mahogany Dresser & Highboy Chest Beautifull Carved Fluted Columns NR
This is a super nice antique vintage dresser& highboy. This is made from solid mahogany wood and very solid and strong with no loose joints. All the drawers are dovetailed and made from solid wood. These both include all the original decorative brass drawer pulls and keyholes along with super nice carved top fluted columns. Dresser has 4 drawers and Highboy has 5 drawers. Dresser measures 36 3/4" tall. 45" wide and 20 3/4" deep. Dresser is also marked on back No. 310. Highboy is 51 1/4" tall, 36" wide and 20 3/4" deep. These are both in beautiful condition with original patina with only very light scratches and rubs from age and use. There is a small spot on the bottom edge of the side of dresser where a small chip of wood is missing shown in pictures and also a spot on side of chest where it appears someone ... moretried to rub the finish a bit. Im sure this is an easy fix but I will leave that to the new owner or professional. As always I sell all my items as is so please ask any and all questions before bidding.
