I suspect that it was once the top portion of a larger piece, but this cabinet is all that remains now. It is in remarkably good condition, with only very minimal surface scratches from general use. The cabinet has a sort of crown molding around the top. There is some small veneer loss at the back of the side edges, as can be seen in the photos. These areas are on the sides, but at the back of the piece. The molding around the top has beautiful symmetric carved detail. There is some slight separation at the corners of the top molding. This detail matches the carved details on the front trim of the door. The shelves inside are static, and do not adjust.

I am unsure of the exact age of the desk. It is most likely a 1970's reproduction of an 18th Century Georgian Design. It has beautifully carved ball and claw feet, and chunky cabiole legs that are also carved at the knees. This desk has five (5) substantial drawers with the original brass bail pull handles, and five (5) faux drawer fronts on the back side also with brass bail pull handles. The drawers have dove tail joints. The desk was in front of a window for years, and therefore the finish on the back side is a bit faded.
