A reduced version of Arrowsmith's 1841 Republic of Texas map, shows the extent of Texas's claims to the region of the upper Rio Grande, including Santa Fe, Taos and Albuquerque. The detailed map identifies many roads. Rivers, towns, and forts. Thirty land districts are outlined and named in a table at the top right corner. The northern panhandle is divided into 12 sections, with the German notation(copied from Arrowsmith) that the land was well wooded and watered. There is an inset with a small map of Galveston Bay in the lower left. The outline color on this example delineates both the counties and republic boundaries. The county lines are somewhat misrepresented. It was finalized in December 1845. This 168-year-old map is in excellent condition and also indicates Indian Territory to the north and Mexico to the west. Shortly to become New Mexico and Arizona Territories, as a result of the Mexican War(1846-1848) The map has been professionally framed and matted. Major railroads are shown and it is interesting to see where they run-and where they don't! The map is printed on medium weight paper. Blank on the reverse with the exception of area and population figures(by county) from the 11th Census of 1890. Total Population in the state was 2.235,523 and in Yoakum County it was only 4! This printing is NOT part of the encyclopedia text. But was printed by the lithographer when the map itself was prepared. Sheet size is 9.75" x 12.5" and the image is approximately 8.25" x 10.5" There is a fold in the center. This is Thomas G. Bradford's 1835 map of the Republic of Texas. This important map is considered the first specific map of the Republic of Texas to appear in an atlas. The map covers the original claims of the Republic of Texas from the Nunces River to the Red River and from the Mountains of Anahuaca to the Sabine River. It does not extend Texas claims to the Rio Grande- as would later maps, but does include the river as the map's southernmost and westernmost points, a fact that leads us to believe that Bradford was aware off potential greater territorial claims. This offering of the map includes a single page of descriptive text. Cartographically Bradford ... morederived this map primarily from the 1830 map of Steven F. Austin, the only readily available source at the time. Austin spent nearly six years compiling data on Texas before publishing his important map in Philadelphia. His intentions with the map were both patriotic and political- Austin wanted to bring Texas colonization to the attention of American public. Bradford's 1835 map illustrates the success of his efforts. Where Austin's 1830 map identifies only three Mexican land grants: his primary grant in 1827, his secondary grant entitled'Austin's Colony' and De Witt's Grant. Bradford's map, by contrast illustrates a total of 15 land grants, including those of Williams(and Austin) McMullin and McGloines, Powers, De Deon, Vhelin, Zavalla, Burnet, Beale and Grant, John Cameron, and Felisola. The enormous success of Austin's drive to populate Texas with English speaking settlers eventually led to the disputes that inspired the succession of Texas and ultimately the Mexican American War. You are bidding on an interesting legal document filed and dated December 31. 1906. This item is an amended Plat of Red Bird, which is and was at that time part of the CREEK Nation now called Wagoner, OK. This document describes the land granted or allotments given to several tribes people as provided by an act of Congress approved March1, 1901 allowing property or homesteads to be given to Indians. This document mentions the specific recipients of the Deeds but goes on to talk about leases, mineral and oil rights. It is an interesting document naming R.H. Kello, the surveying Engineer of the plat of Red Bird and signed by W.S Owens, the Secretary for the Security Abstract Company putting together the document for all of the named parties. This particular document is signed but not by all of the parties mentioned and no seal affixed. Perhaps ... morethere was another version that was signed by all-who knows. The document looks official. All 7 legal size pages, along with an attached cover. If you have legal experience then you will likely be able to discern exactly what this is. The document mentions price of a lease on the land for oil rights, etc, and mentions that by some Congressional law that the Indian recipient cannot sell the property for 25 years. Lots of interesting information included in this document. Wish that I were more knowledgeable and could talk more intelligently about this document. Ask questions if you care to do so. This map was produced by the U.S. Coast Survey in 1854 from its survey in Section 9 of the Galveston Bay area done between 1848 and 1852. The map. Without margins, measures 7 1/2" x 11, and is framed in a walnut frame with outer measurements of 9 3/8" x 13. There is a faint old vertical crease, as it was originally bound, but the map is generally quite clean, and nicely detailed, showing Galveston Bay, the East Bay, West Bay, Oyster Bay, and as far West as Matagorda Bay. The easternmost point is Turtle Bay at the end of Galveston Bay. I apologize for the fuzzy scans but I don't want to take the map out of the frame to get it closer to the scanner, so much is lost in the translation, but it does appear crisp at close viewing. Ready for hanging, with glass mount.

Very rare and fantastic. Original 1908 Folding Pocket Map of Texas highlighting land for sale in the panhandle county of Sherman by the American Farm Lands Association. This fascinating map is titled on the paper cover"Map of Texas" with further text that reads"Get a Nice. Choice Level Farm in Sherman County Texas/ No Money Down/ No Interest/ No Brokerage/ No Taxes" It was issued by American Farm Lands Association of Chicago in conjunction with the Rock Island Railroad which ran through Sherman County. The folding map itself measures approx. 20 1/2" by 9" and is titled in the cartouche"Map of Texas/ with Population and Location of Principle Towns and Cities According to the latest Reliable Statistics" 1908. Published by the Kenyon Company of Des Moines. Iowa. The Map shows Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico ... morewith the Texas Counties brightly colored. There is a bull's-eye over Sherman County and areas of overprinted advertising text for the"good, rich, level farm land" being sold- a check of census records shows that in 1900 the population of Sherman County(923.2 sq. miles) was 104. This map was published in Conklin's Handy Manual of Useful Information and World's Atlas. Compiled by George W. Conklin and copyrighted 1888 by Laird& Lee, Lakeside Building, Chicago. The image area measures approximately 3" x 4-1/4" And in spite of its small size, the map still manages to convey quite a bit of detail.
