With decorative piano-key border, printed more than 110 years ago. The image area measures 10-1/2" x 15" And the map was engraved by the Matthews-Northrup Company. It depicts the area of present-day Oklahoma 30 years after the Civil War, and the detail includes railroads, cities, towns, and natural features. It labels the five Indian nations in the territory: Osage, Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, and Chickasaw. Guthrie is identified as the capital of Oklahoma. And Tahlequah is the capital of the Indian Territory. Muskogee is spelled"Muscogee" on the map. Beaver County covers the entire Oklahoma Panhandle. This is an 1871 engraved map of Texas. New Mexico& Indian Territory, with insets of the environs of New Orleans& Chicago. It measures 12.5 X 17 inches. Published by T. Edward Zell. Philadelphia. Map was engraved by J. Bartholomew. For history of the famous Bartholomew maps, see last paragraph below. We are unable to find many of these maps in the major dealers sites. The ones we did find had prices of $200- $500 and up and were not in as good a condition as this map. Be my guest. Go look for yourself. Paper shows minor age spots. And, bounded by the Red River. Likely published about 1854] A good map of early Texas. The area north of present-day Oklahoma is shown as the Indian Territory. And above that area the Nebraska Kansas Territory. No folds or defects, no odors. Measures about 6 x 9.5" overall. A CONCISE AND PRACTICAL SYSTEM OF GEOGRAPHY, FOR COMMON SCHOOLS, ACADEMIES, AND FAMILIES. Designed as a Sequel to the"First Book. NY: Daniel Burgess& Co(Late Cady& Burgess) copyright 1853. The maps of Nebraska and Dakota have some foxing and age staining as can be seen in the pictures. The Texas map bleeds through the maps of Dakota and Nebraska making the two maps look stained. Offered for sale is this antique hand colored map of Texas. New Mexico and Indian Territory from a circa 1870 MCNALLY'S SYSTEM OF GEOGRAPHY Book in fair overall condition. The map is marked number 19 and reads in the lower right corner, Drawn and Eng. by Oliver J. Stuart, N.Y. It is page 46 out of the book. It measures about 12" by 10" There is a partial tear at the top of the map as pictured. It has light wear on the edges and light yellowing and foxing. I purchased the geography book at an auction and it was missing the first 8 pages so I do not have an exact date, but Colorado was still a territory and Nebraska was a state, so this should put it in the late 1860's to early 1870's. VERY LARGE ORIGINAL 1857 TEXAS MAP FROM COLTON US ATLAS HAND COLORED
Antique Map from Colton's Atlas of America. 1857 Original 157 year old antique map from Colton's Atlas of America. The scarce advertising atlas with numerous full and half page advertisements in addition to the maps. We purchased the atlas as a partial one with some of the advertisements removed. We've included an image of the title page(not included as part of this auction) below, just for informational purposes. The overall size of this double page map printed on a single sheet is a very impressive 29.25" x 18.5" It was fastened to the atlas by a separate stub(still attached) so that the entire map could be on one page rather than two. The map was printed and then hand watercolored to show the various counties and other divisions. It provides a fascinating snapshot view of the area's geographical details at the ... moretime of publication 157 years ago. This map includes Texas. Including an inset map of Northern Texas, plus plans of Galveston Bay and Sabine Lake. Condition is very good. And much nicer than the image would suggest. There is some modest age-darkening around the edges, otherwise the map is very clean. It's not as dark as the photo would suggest. And the printing is sharp and clear. The reverse side is blank except for a name along with a hotel address in Providence. RI. There is also some shadows of advertising from an adjacent page on one side of the blank, but it is not visible on the map itself. See the images for condition details. But frankly, the images really don't do it any justice. We are/will be offering many of these maps on eBay. As well as some of the better advertisements. This beautiful OLD map of the Western half of United States probably came from a very old atlas. From before 1900. It is dated 1891. It shows some of the"Indian Territory" and marks it accordingly. UNFORTUNATELY. MY SCANNER CLIPPED THE RIGHT HALF SOME. There is another inch of map on the actual map. It has a fold from where it was halved to fit in the format of the book. This map shows TX before Tom Green county was split to add Sterling& Reagan counties. I believe INDIAN TERRITORY shows the configuration just before the" sooner land rush" Map is in good condition with slight browning on the top& bottom margins but none inside the neat lines. No tears or foxing are noted on the image area. Map is undated but I believe it came in an 1888 edition of Britannica. The TX map is a multi-colored county variety with mountain elevations shown in relief engraving& rivers clearly marked. INDIAN TERRITORY is divided into the tribal areas but the specific boundries are not shown as in some previous maps I have sold. Shown are the following nations-CHICKASAW-CHOCTAW-CREEK-SEMINOLES-CHEROKEES. In the very upper right hand corner 7 other tribes are noted. The OK. portion of the original Indian Territory ... moreshows some lines dividing the original tribal areas. The entire area is criss-crossed with early RAILROAD LINES but I do not see any of them labeled as to specific names. Several FORTS are shown in the west TX area. Lower right hand corner shows the names of W& AK JOHNSTON as either original engravers or cartographers. Map measures slightly under 9 3/4" W by 13 1/2" H and will easily fit a standard 16 X 20" over the counter frame which eliminates custom framing costs.

Texas 21.5"x 13.5" doubled) is shown and the other side has 2 individual maps of Indian Territory(now Oklahoma) and Arkansas(single maps are each 11.75'x13.5" The condition of these maps is good and they have some discoloration to the edges. See details and know that due to the extenuating age, small wear. dog ears, bends and slight discoloration are common. The actual map coloring is awesome though! 1888 Original Antique Color Maps of Okla.Indian TY & Alaska , from Gaskell Atlas
This offering features an original antique one-page. Highly detailed, multi-color map of INDIAN TERRITORY(later formed the State of Oklahoma) with an equal sized high-quality map of ALASKA on the back. The maps were rescued from Gaskell's Atlas of the World, published in 1888, and which was in unsalvageable condition. The last two photos validate the origin of the maps and the publishing date. The maps were specially engraved for inclusion in this Gaskell atlas and are contemporary with the publishing date. The Indian Territory map shows the various tribe locations within what is now Oklahoma. The Alaska map was created when the state was a"District" And even prior to its classification as a"Territory" Many current cities within the state did not exist in 1888, but Sitka, originally a Russian outpost, appears to be ... moreone of the largest cities in the district in 1888. Both maps have a page size of 11-1/4" wide x 13-1/2" long. The Indian Territory map has an image size of 9-5/8" wide x 12-1/8" long and the Alaska map has an image size of 9-5/8" wide x 12-3/8" long. The map's condition is excellent. With no holes or tears in the image nor the margin, no edge loss, and no noticeable yellowing of the paper with age. The map colors are exceptionally varied. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire two antique state maps. Published well before they became states. This map will be carefully wrapped. Map shows Texas's original boundaries before the 1850 agreement that took parts of New Mexico and Colorado. Hand colored outline of state boundaries as well as various districts. There is a small map of Galveston at bottom right. A nice early map of Texas that measures approximately 14 x 18 inches. It is a one sided engraved map and will look very nice framed. Great detail to the map with a nice index at top right listing the color outlined areas. A very rare map with great detail. Map is in generally nice shape but there are some issues at the boarder areas which for the most part do not impact the map and will not be noticeable when framed. Chipping along the edges of map and some minor creasing again around edges not impacting the map. ... moreThere is a stain at upper left that touches the edge of the map beyond the boarder.
