The map shows many cities and counties in the eastern part of the state. The western part of the state shows Indian areas and labels like"sulphur water" salt pond" and"horsehead crossing" An inset shows the northern part of the state. Mexico and New Mexico, etc. Map was published by A.J. Johnson of New York entered according to an Act of Congress in 1866. An interesting period of Texas history in the first year after the end of the Civil War, this map demonstrates the well organized counties in eastern Texas in sharp contrast to the largely open areas of western Texas designated as: Presidio, Young Bexar, and El Paso. Occasional roads and sites along the roads are noted(ie: Lower Presidio road, Upper Presidio roads, Lareda Road, waterholes including Wild China waterhole and Mustang waterhole, etc. Railroad lines are shown in the state as small printed tracks- often without the railroad ... morename. Cram was a prolific map publishing house who in the late 1800's was continually revising their maps for the profusion of titles they were producing. Many of these maps are. Upon closer examination, short-lived variants of others appearing similar. This is particularly true for those produced for his largest atlases, which were only issued for a brief period. These most expensive productions contained supplemental maps not found in the more common less expensive atlases, and are therefore more uncommon individually than they might ... moreinitially appear. Antique maps of Texas and Tennessee from an atlas published in the late 19th Century. These US state maps are printed back to back. So only one can be displayed at a time. Framed, these make great wall decor for an office, den or just about any room in the house. Condition: Good. Lots of dark aging around the margins. Which just adds to the appeal of the old maps. The paper is fairly fragile, so map page will need to be protected from less than careful handling. Note: the page was just a bit too big for the scanner, so part of the margin areas is not shown.
