This very attractive double page map sheet of OKLAHOMA AND INDIAN TERRITORY is from the 1899 printing of The Century Atlas of the World. The map itself is dated 1897. The atlas was"Prepared under the superintendence of Benjamin E. Smith. A.M. and published by The Century Company, New York. The highly prized maps in this atlas were engraved by The Matthews-Northrup Company of Buffalo, NY. The maps from The Century Atlas are acknowledged to be among the finest of the late 19th century. Displaying plenty of sharp detail. Attractive colors, and good margins for framing. The page is about 12 1/2 by 17 inches in size. The reverse is blank. The page has a vertical center fold. As published. The map clearly shows areas occupied by various Indian tribes within the borders of Indian Territory-Cherokee Nation. Creek Nation, Choctaw Nation, Chickasaw ... moreNation, and Seminole Nation. Within the borders of Oklahoma are areas labelled"Osage Nation" and"Kiowas, Comanches and Apaches. Condition is very good with slight age toning at the edges and very minor damp staining at a couple of corners that intrudes less than 1/4 inch into the blank margin. O.W. Gray's 24"x36" Famous 1876"New Map of Texas& the Indian Territory" Reproduction) One of the Great Texas Maps! Available in four sizes From an original in the Electric Books Collection. This beautiful map was printed in the O.W. Gray National Atlas. It was drawn by Frank A. Gray who did many of the outstanding maps for the Gray Atlases of the period. Accurate to about 1876 in the post Civil War/Reconstruction era as the railroads were beginning to expand again and the great Cattle Trails were still in progress. This fine map is full of detail. The Comanche's and Kiowa's were still a threat. Most of the Counties had been organized and were on the map but many were still not functional in the Panhandle, the LLano Estacado area and in the far west. In Indian Territory. Greer County is notated as claimed ... moreby Texas in that famous border dispute. Several maps of this period show Galveston which was the major portal into Texas. But in addition this map shows the Galveston Harbor sounding chart(Lower right) as well as very early images of the city of Austin(Lower left) a small map of the the River System's of Texas(Upper right) and an elevation map of Texas and Indian Territory at the Upper Left. There are many long lost place names and there are fantasy projections of proposed railroads that were either located elsewhere or never built. This is one of the few major post-Civil War maps that shows most of the entire state of Texas without chopping off either the Panhandle or the western sections which adds greatly to the visual appeal. A very large part of Indian Territory and a little of New Mexico is shown in full color and detail. The map features a very effect and attractive and is coupled with effective but subtle Handwashed coloring. None of the 1876 or 1877 editions exist outside the archives of Rand McNally.This is from the Second edition of the Rand McNally Business Atlas. This map is canvas backed. One of the joys natural to most collectors is to find and own a scarce or illusive item. If a U.S. Coin or stamp were to exist with only four to five copies known. The value of such an item would be out of most collectors price range. Here is a chance to own just such an item. According to worldcat.org only one other edition of this atlas is still around and it is in the Cornell University Library. It is possible another copy may surface in the future as it could be stored away unknown to the collecting public. But a couple more of this original map should not affect its value. Sheet size: 11" x 14" Available in several sizes From an original in the Electric Books Collection. This beautiful map was printed in the O.W. Gray National Atlas. It was drawn by Frank A. Gray who did many of the outstanding maps for the Gray Atlases of the period. Accurate to about 1876 in the post Civil War/Reconstruction era as the railroads were beginning to expand again and the great Cattle Trails were still in progress. This fine map is full of detail. The Comanche's and Kiowa's were still a threat. Most of the Counties had been organized and were on the map but many were still not functional in the Panhandle, the LLano Estacado area and in the far west. In Indian Territory. Greer County is ... morenotated as claimed by Texas in that famous border dispute. Several maps of this period show Galveston which was the major portal into Texas. It is several times larger than the original and allows the great detail and notation to be read easily. About the original map: In this period some time before the American Revolution and the Louisiana Purchase. Spain ruled all of what is now New Mexico, Texas and Mexico. All of that would change in a few years as Mexico overthrew the Spanish rule, Texas separated from Mexico and eventually Mexico lost the northern part of its empire. This French map of the ... moresouthern part of North America is from the work of Rigobert Bonne. The striking multi-hue outline coloration was done by hand and added later. The map shows as far north as Santa Fe and to just below Guadalajara. Also including the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula. The southern coast of the United States in included to western Florida, and the river systems are included inland, especially for Texas. There are two references to Texas. Both the region and a settlement of that name on the Red River, near present-day Austin. Other named places include San Paul, San Saba, Nacogdoches, Fort Adayes, San Antonio Bexar and the town of Paso(El Paso) A printed note mentions the explorations of La Salle, and the map locates New Orleans, Mobile, and Pensacola along the Gulf Coast to the east. Ca. 1898 Map of Texas Copyright 1898 Map Size: 26" X 19" Page Size: 29" X 22" Condition: VERY GOOD- overall light age toning- crease at fold. Comments: A large and highly detailed map that is an excellent candidate for matting and framing. On the reverse side is a list of all the cities. Towns and counties with population when available. Note the size of the map. There is greater detail than what is found on smaller maps. General Information: Seldom available and relatively rare. I am pleased to offer these C. 1890's individual maps salvaged from a Rand McNally& Co.s Atlas(elephant folio) Each map is copyrighted with a year in the 1890's and some a little earlier. All the maps are printed on heavy paper; they are aquatinted and display much more detail than smaller maps. Any relevant faults such as foxing, ... moretears, holes or stains are disclosed if they affect the map area and are visually detracting. You will note that these maps are very larger and at least double the size of most other maps available. Rand McNally published a number of smaller-sized atlases, some with a similar name and same year, so in comparing, pay particular attention to the map size. The larger maps have more detail and additional description. These maps were tipped into the atlas and therefore contain no staple marks. Most of the maps are double-page and therefore have a crease down the center and the tipping strip on the reverse. The crease may be professionally pressed out. But the crease mark will never completely disappear. It should also be expected that the page edges will show some minor wear but the wear will not be noticeable after being matted and framed. The overall condition of these 100+ year old maps is very good but they all show age toning as the result of being exposed to air and more specifically moisture in the air. The paper is not so much white as a light cream tone which tends to deepen closer to the edge. There may be sporadic foxing which is noted if in the area of the map. There are n

Antique Maps of Oklahoma, Indiana, Indian Territory - 1890s
Antique maps of Indiana and Oklahoma(then Oklahoma Territory and Indian Territory) from an atlas published in the late 19th Century. These US state maps are printed back to back. So only one can be displayed at a time. Condition: Good. Lots of age toning around the margins. Which just adds to the appeal of the old map. The paper is fairly fragile, so map page will need to be protected from less than careful handling. Note: the page was just a bit too big for the scanner, so part of the margin area is not shown. The bottom margin of the Georgia map is wider than in the image. The Oklahoma map was printed a little crooked on the paper(as was common in the 19th century) but this will not show when it is framed. This transaction was approved by the U. S. Congress in June of 1900. Entrance to this area is available only by The Great Rock Island route. Express trains with sleepers and reclining chairs leave daily from Chicago. Kansas City, Omaha, Lincoln, Topeka, and Ft. Worth. Connecting trains from St. Louis.
