It is printed on an"onion skin" type paper, and is hand colored. The map states: Entered by an Act of Congress, 10th July 1818, and published by John Melish, improved to 1820. John Melish was one of the early American premier mapmakers of this period. This map includes Texas, and is probably one of the earliest maps to show the new Texas borders, accepted by the US from the Treaty signed 22 Feb. 1819. It is engraved by Samuel Harrison. The map has retained most of its original folds, but has been misfolded in the past.
