It has the look of a chest on chest piece but it is actually a one piece chest, with five (5) drawers. It is made of solid wood, and has a maple veneer finish and dovetail joints on the drawers. The piece sits on bracket feet and is sturdy and stable. It is 52" tall, with the lower portion being about 30" tall. It is 19.5" wide from front to back, and 32.5" long side to side. This highly attractive reproduction American Chippendale Highboy emulates closely after the Philadelphia work centers. Probably crafted during the last years of the 19th century, the entire case is crafted by hand with thick solid walnut planks for primary surfaces. All secondary woods are heavy solid planks of oak, poplar and chestnut. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the bottoms chamfered along the edges and set in grooves in the drawer frame. The brilliant brass batwing hardware is original to the case. The broken-arch pediment boasts robust carved rosettes set beneath a deep molding flanked by flame carved finials. Of the eleven drawers lining the facade, two are embellished with recessed shell carvings, the knees and apron likewise showcasing detailed shell forms. The entire case rests over cabriole legs terminating in trifid feet. This is an absolutely gorgeous reproduction for anyone passionate about the American Chippendale form. Remaining in an exceptional state of preservation. This is a piece that was built to last many lifetimes. Measurements: 82 1/2" total height(top is 51 1/2" high. Base is 32 1/2" high) x 41 5/8" wide x 23 1/2" deep Condition Report: Minor dings and abrasions. Surface wear, etc. Refinished at some point in the 20th Century. Lovely old antique solid oak highboy dresser from the turn of the century. It is 48.5 x 44 x 19.5" Very nice condition with a beautiful original mellow patina. There are a couple of discoloration spots on top and at the top of the backsplash the wood is chipped. It can only be seen from the back. Otherwise excellent shape. Great shape dresser with both dovetailed front and back of drawers.Serpentine front, Claw feet and wooden casters. There is a small character flaw on bottom drawer that I think was a burn mark but not sure. Has nice cubby with Ornate carved door that has curved shape. The wooden back and top also are both in excellent shape! Is old and may have some scratches and flaws but overall is very nice and was refinished well. Casters all work good and easy! These belong to my husband's grandparents. The matching set solid wood high boy and dresser has been used. The High Boy is in much better condition the the dresser. All the drawers work and the suspended mirror works as well. Forgive my husband for just holding up the mirror and not assembling the mirror on the dresser. The top of the dresser does need refurbishing. The wood casters are a collection in themselves. The High Boy does not have the 4 casters on. They are in the draw. All the original draw pulls work.
