Traces of glue in the back and on the surface, Yoruba Beaded Crocodile Diviner Hanging Panel African Additional Information: The frame of this diviner hanging panel in the form of a crocodile is made of vegetal fiber and covered with cotton fabric. One side the panel is embellished with beads and motifs in the form of human face. Elephant, lizards and lozenge patterns. Among the Yoruba. Beadwork is the province of the Ife diviner, something akin to a priest. Beadwork pieces like this one were worn around the neck of the diviner. In the complex beaded patterns symbol and abstract patterns interact in a play of color and design. Human faces and lizard or crocodile are the main designs on this panel. The cowrie shells attached along the edges were a form of currency in the past and would also be used during Ifa divination and the color white is ritually significant among the Yoruba. The crocodile may make reference to the orisha Olokun, deity of the river and the sea from whom wealth comes(the early Europeans brought their goods upstream in ships therefore wealth and goods came from the ocean! VINTAGE SHIPIBO CONIBO INDIAN FACE POTTERY VESSEL The Shipibo-Conibo are an indigenous people along the Ucayali River in the Amazon rainforest in Peru. Formerly two groups. The Shipibo(ape men) and the Conibo(fish men) they eventually became one distinct tribe through intermarriage and communal ritual and are currently known as the Shipibo-Conibo people. For your consideration I have a great looking vintage example of Shipibo-Conibo pottery from Peru which is in excellent condition. It was acquired at an estate sale a few years back. I was told that it was acquired on a trip to Peru in the 1960s. aside from a small nick in the glaze on the rim and another small nick on the ear both which could easily be touched up. I would rate this piece a 9/10 or better overall. There are no major chips and no cracks. It has a real presence and it displays ... morelike a champ! I am offering this. Antique, Mexican, OLD MAN, Hola Viejo” Pink Faced, carved, wooden mask-on stand as pictured. It is late 1800’s to early 1900’s. I acquired this piece when I lived in Florida. From a collector who purchased it from a high end gallery in New York City years ago. It has oil marks from facial oil on the inside- so it has been“danced” And also has old termite damage from long ago. It has several old coats of paint, and loss of paint, and lots of wear, and an old repair for a crack on the top, that looks great. Whatever happened condition-wise was perfect. It is truly a fine mask, and shows very well as you can see. I am moving back to Florida from Arizona, and am selling my collection. Mu Pikpi(Grandmother with Firefans) Mola- Collected by Ann Parker and Avon Neal. This traditional mola shows grandma. With a big nose ring, sitting on a Kuna stool holding two large woven"pikpi" or firefans. In Kuna culture it is grandma's job to keep the fire going- and this is a popular them in 1960s molas. Very well rendered(great look on her face)it is similar to a piece published in Ann Parker's book(see below) But a large section of background cloth(by her left arm mostly) has worn away. It would look fine if mounted on a red background cloth. Great provenance. 21" x 17" Collection of Ann Parker and Avon Neal. Molas. Folk Art of the Cuna Indians. Is one of the most important mola books ever written. Ann Parker and Avon Neal were a couple who teamed together to write a number of books on folk art. But it has gotten worn over the years and some of it is missing especially at the top. Rare Early Large Kuna Mola, ex Kit Kapp Collection, Morning Glories
Tuttu(Morning Glory Flowers) Mola collected by Kit Kapp. This is not your typical 1960s mola. The design and workmanship indicate an early date- as does the use of very lightweight loose balanced plainweave cotton for the base layer. The large size(22" is another sign of a possible early date- I'm guessing 1950s or earlier. The flower design is also not common and has a fluid. Painterly quality to it. Note the openness of the channels of dark cloth outlining the flowers. A pretty special piece. There are areas of the base cloth where the thin fabric has lost wefts or thinned out to nothing, but they are not very noticeable. Here we have two very large rats on a very large mola- probably made in the 1950s or early 1960s. Note the minimal use of slit-motif fillers- instead most of the fillers are large abstract motifs. Museum Quality Mola Blouse- Colorful Chickens- Collected by Ann Parker and Avon Neal. This blouse is a great example of a late-1960s mola- made in a time period some call the golden age of mola making. Late 60s molas exhibited much better sewing and cutting skills than earlier pieces. But had not yet developed the overly-precise quality(sort of paint-by-numbers precise) that became popular in later years. This example appears to depict a rooster on one side and two hens on the other(though it may be a two-headed hen- something that is not unprecedented- note two heads and two feet! From an old Western NY estate. This is an old circa 1900 Boleadora/ Bola, an old south American/ Argentinian throwing weapon. The animal hide balls are heavy and most likely filled with stones, the rope is in very good condition for its age. The balls are approx 2 1/2" to 2 3/4" wide, the three rope lengths vary around 4 ft in length.

The color is consistent throughout all beads, a beautiful marbled green with some blueish undertones. My client, a native of Guatemala, is a long time(50+ years) collector of South American artifacts, and has several museum quality pieces. This piece was passed down from her father, also a collector and one time museum curator. This ethnological unused linen tablecloths was made from the initial phase of planting domestic linen to harvesting. Processing and weaving unique specimen. It was made 50 years ago and today there are only a few such examples. It was made by my great-grandmother. All stages, from planting linen, anding with final product. I possess 9 unique pieces. Dimensions 53x116 cm + fringes on both sides of the length of 7 cm.

Peru Amazon Shipibo Large Embroidered Textile Tapestry 153cm x 70cm
This intricately hand-woven and hand-embroidered cloth comes from the indigenous Shipibo community of the Peruvian Amazon. This type of artisanal work(artesania) is a true representation of Shipibo culture. Particularly of Shipibo women(although some men and boys are now taking up the delicate craft of embroidery and weaving) A cloth of this size normally takes 1-2 months to weave and stitch by hand. The complex geometric patterns woven into the cloth represent the sacred songs(icaros) that connect the Shipibo with nature and the cosmos.
