I see a similarity with spears from the Lokele- So- Mba- Hanga- and Mongelima-trlibes. But this is not a spearblade mounted as a sword. NICE NORTH AFRICAN NIMCHA SWORD 19TH CENTURY
This is a good example of a North African Nimcha Sword that dates from the early to mid 19th Century. It is mounted with a fullered European blade that measures 33 inches in length which remains in good condition with only some minor surface staining. The carved horn hilt has an aged hairline crack on one side as well as some minor insect damage. Nevertheless does remain nice and tight in condition. The intricately detailed metal guard also remains nice and continues to wear traces of the lovely silver inlay. The leather covered wooden scabbard reflects age with scuffing but does remain in good serviceable condition. African Ngala Execution Sword/Knife, Beheading Sword, 2nd Half 19th C
The Ngala. A forest people in Central Africa, living primarily off of farming and fishing, have adapted the Banza throwing knife into a sort of machete often used for executions. It became a symbol of power and was sometimes a ceremonial knife for tribal chieftains. The macabre ritual executions take place with the condemned being staked to the ground in a sitting position, with the head fastened with leather straps to a bent tree branch. This way it was ensured that the victim’s neck would be stretched and at the moment of decapitation the head would be automatically catapulted away. This example has a 20 ½" forged iron blade of typical form with multi-curved cutting surfaces and lugs on the reverse; three short fullers on one side and hatched decoration toward the back edge. Multi-stage wood pommel(split) and short grip bound ... morewith iron bands; the design facilitating either one or two-hand use. Dark rust patina to metal surfaces, with some edge nicks. Overall length 29 ½" A genuine execution sword at a small fraction of the cost of European examples. Other dealers charge several times this price for similar examples.

One of the nicest examples i ever met. This large Kaskara is traditionally mounted in tooled leather with fine silver and enamel mounts and a large steel crossguard. Wearing a m assive broad double edged blade of local manufacture. Showing interesting forging patterns and struck Sun marking to each side. Real fighting weapon, not a later tourist piece, when sheathed it leaves slight gap between the hilt and scabbard due to age dryness. This antique knife or sword comes from either the Poto. Ngala or Ngombe tribe of the Congo. Both tribes are closely related. This weapon has a large ball crafted onto the handle which is made of woven grasses and also some animal hide pieces. These pommels are said to contain magical substances which gives these knives their power. These knives where used as weapons, bride wealth and displayed during communal ceremonies. Nice old antique South African axe which shows a lot of age and character. The handle is wood. With a lovely glossy patina that has some hard use. There are some chips and splits to the wood and the wood has broken away where the axe handle goes into the head. This happened a long time ago as the wood revealed from the break shows some patina. This causes the head to not remain in the head of the shaft. The steel axe head has a wonderful dark patina. A nice African axe being offered at a very low opening price. Coming out the cellar of an old estate here in Antwerp. I do not know much about this piece but collectors will do, what I do know is that this piece must be from Congo that is what the successors told me. This sword is quite rare and would have been carried by an officer in the Malawi Army. The country gained independence in 1964 and it is believed that the government placed an order with Wilkinson Sword t supply the officers in their armed forces with ceremonial swords. This sword probably dates from the 1960's/70's. It follows exactly the form of the British Infantry Officer's 1897 Pattern sword except that the state coat of arms of Malawi have been etched onto the sword hilt. The blade is extenesively decorated with Malawian state motifs. The sword comes complete with its original field service scabbard. Old Massive Fang sword from Gabon. This unusual sword is very rare and so nice. Because it is different from other known by its shape without spikes at the base of the blade. The wooden handle is wonderfully patinated and decorated with winding of brass and copper, two points of the guard was broken causes of the time, but well repaired.The base of the handle is set in a winding flat wire brass. The iron blade is engraved at the base and has a slight central ridge.The engravings design represented on the base of the blade are very rare for a sword Fang.
