Through research this is dated between the late 19th century and early 20th century. I haven't found another one like this. The blade is made of jand forged iron. And it has it's original leather sheath. The handle is made of bovine cow horn. And is pinned to the handle with brass dowels. The blade is stamped Blave& Co. And is razor sharp. The original leather sheath is in as found condition. ITEM MEASUREMENTS This item measures about 28 3/4" long. Handle measures 5 1/4" ... morelong and 1 1/4" wide. Blade measures 23 3/8 long. THIS ITEMS CONDITION REPORT This is in good condition. ITEM WEIGHT This weighs about 1 lb 7 oz before packing. Antique Mexican retablo Virgen de la Candelaria oil on tin
Beautiful Mexican retablo oil on tin of the Virgen de la Candelaria ca. 1850-1880. This rare image measures approximately 10" x 14" and is quite unusual in that the Virgen is seated amongst the clouds and her throne appears to be leaning to the left. The anonymous artist obviously employed artistic license in depicting this most intriguing representation of the Virgen de Candelaria. Complete with the requisite attributes of the candle in her right hand and the Christ child in her left. There is paint loss and pitting commensurate with the age of this piece but not that affects the overall feel of this work of art. The lace work is very elegant and the Christ Child is sweet and gentle. The hands and face of the Virgin are both superbly executed. Purchased in Mexico many years ago. Old, Old Hand Carved Jade Lizard Figural Pendant , Belt Buckle , or ??
This antique green jade lizard is hand carved. I am unsure of its geographical origin. But it seems obvious that it was intended to be attached to a lanyard of some kind for use as a necklace, or to a belt or other worn item. The piece is hand carved, top and underside, in the form of a lizard. It has facial features, claws, and scales. The front legs circle around to form loops under the head. The piece measures 4-1/2” long x 1-3/4” wide. It is 1” deep. The piece is in perfect condition. And has no damage or repairs. It comes directly from a world-class private estate collection. Colorful traditional Kuna Yala Mola on burgundy background, Panama
A traditional Kuna Yala tribe woman's mola. A very finely stitched multi-layer tribal blouse front panel. Before missionaries came to the Kuna tribe in Panama the women wore semi-permanent tattoos on their upper torso(and nothing else. The missionaries made them cover up and they transferred the designs to their blouses. I don't know how old this is, but I bought it from a Panamanian 20 years ago. This woman spent time with the Kuna Yala and got the mola directly from the women in the tribe. This mola shows a piece of daily life- two canoe paddles or the mirror image of a paddle. I was told that the mirror image molas are the preferred molas. Incredible examples of their cultural art. From a smoke-free home. Postage listed is for mainland USA.

Wekko Naibe(snake-killing birds) mola collected by Kit Kapp. Deadly snakes are a big part of Kuna life. So they have great respect for the"Wekko" bird, which is known for its snake hunting abilities. Molas from the 1930s depict a similar scene, with birds killing a giant two-headed snake. This pice is almost certainly from the early or mid-1960s. 2 myan base relief type sculptures of actual stucco reliefs from Palenque
howdy folks. Hope ur all doing good tonight. On auction at this time are 2 vintage myan sculpture type depictions that are framed by individual small blocks, filigreed, and framed again, and the sculpture piece sits on a yellow sort of crushed velvet. They are depictions of personages dressing for celebrations. The exact composition of the material is unknown to me but I suspect its a high grade fiberglass or resin with mixed traditional myan color schemes. In 1939, he opened Taller Borda, taking several of Spratling’s finest silversmiths with him. Aguilar’s jewelry was inspired by Aztec and Mixtec art and architecture. From silversmithing, he branched out into other metals and forms. Taxco antiques are extremely rare and Hector Aguilar’s work especially is highly collectible. Sconces of this form exist in several varieties. Some are all brass. Some are copper and brass combined, and here we have all copper. Some have plain rims like these, while others have rolled ... morepiping surrounding the rim. Their scarcity and desirability is attested where some vendors are asking almost $5000 for the ones they have. These sconces are beautifully designed. Suggestive of a fleur-de-lis. Each has a spiral pedestal to hold the candle, balls which form part of the decoration, and a hook for hanging on the wall. They are stamped with Aguilar’s conjoined HA, TAXCO and the number 994. Similar sconces may be seen in Penny Morrill's book Silver Masters of Taxco. These are in excellent vintage condition. Please examine the pictures carefully as they are an integral part of the description. They measure 9 ½" high and 4 3/4" across. One weighs 218 grams and the other 212. EFFIGY STONE FIGURE. COSTA RICA. PRE-COLUMBIAN Height: 5 1/2" Width: 2 3/4" Depth: 3 3/4" Weight: 1 lb 3.4 oz This effigy stone was acquired at a private Bel Air estate mansion sale. The owner. A former 1960s television producer, had an extensive collection of Costa Rican antique stone tools, ceremonial pieces and effigy figures. The artifact displays a crouching person with arms straddled along side. Pronounced eyes/lips are offset by a head-piece/decoration of some type. Made from a block of lava. The carving, essentially, is a stylized image of a person. Colleagues have noted that the clenched fists. Position of the legs, wide hips/buttocks and somewhat determined facial features indicates a birth or birthing practice. If valid, this suggests a fertility figurine of some type-such were rather common during the prehistory ... moreof Costa Rica. Minor dings/extraction-grooves along most of the artifact. Though the left knee has maintained a large chip-exposing the inner. Original red color of this particular lava stone. An interesting mystery.

FROG EFFIGY GREENSTONE. PRE-COLUMBIAN, COSTA RICA. 500- 800 AD. Length: 2 3/4" Width: 2 1/2" Thick: 1" Weight: 6.1 oz Acquired from a private estate sale in Bel Air. California-the collector had an extensive collection of Costa Rican antiquities, including this greenstone frog effigy, whose style, carving form suggests a date between 500 and 800 AD. The squat/flat carving shows a frog with deep-cut grooves. Crouching legs, face and mouth. Abrasion streaks, cuts, dings and some bottom pitting noted. That said, this piece clearly has been taken care of for the patina is somewhat still visible along the rear of the artifact. Frog mythology throughout Central America is remarkably uniform: their croaking was associated with thunder/ rainfall-hence. Something to be desired in times of drought-which DID happen in that contemporary ... morerainy area. They were also venerated because of their peculiar transitional life: from swimming tadpole to hopping frog-this fed into many Central American folklore about life/death/rebirth. This is a beautiful frog effigy stone from a very ancient Central American culture.
