TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Myths of the Norsemen From the ... moreEddas and Sagas by H.A. Guerber. With 64 Illustrations. DESCRIPTION: Softcover: 396 pages. Publisher: Dover Publications; 1992) ISBN: 0486273482. From his exalted throne. A mighty watchtower, Odin surveys the world; a world of gods, giants, elves, dwarves, and men. Below, the Valkyrs ride forth, their golden hair streaming through the clouds, the pale northern sun glinting on shields and spears. Through the battlefields they swoop, bringing the kiss of death to the warriors bound for Valhalla, hall of the chosen slain. The myths of the Norsemen are darkly romantic. Heroic and tragic. For sheer adventure and high drama, they are without equal. Their sagas are stirring tales that are as powerful now as they were a thousand years ago. But less well known are the stories themselves, stories with all the classic qualities of a long-lost age. Valor, nobility, and a triumphant greatness of spirit. These were the human attributes the medieval Norsemen admired most. What dazzling inspiration for young Viking warriors these tales must have been, vividly told beside blazing fires on dark and frozen nights. Their preservation. From the oral tradition to the prose sagas that have come down to us, owes much to the Norse colonization of Iceland. Here the art of storytelling lived on, vivid, dramatic, and realistic. The stories feature well-defined characters, colorfully portrayed. For deeply imbued with the values of the Norsemen though they were, the intention was entertainment, the emphasis on action and pace. And on these northerly shores, the sweep of Christianity across Europe was delayed long enough to allow learned men, proud of their pagan past, to adapt the art of storytelling to the written word. During the early part of the thirteenth century. The“Eddas” were collected together, masterpieces of Norse mythology that included the tragic death of Balder; the comic ta

TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish Chronicles of The Celts by Iain ... moreZaczek. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover with Dust Jacket: 159 pages. Publisher: Sterling Publishing Company. Inc. 1997) The Celtic world. As it existing in three separate countries with a common spirit and tradition; Ireland, Wales, and Brittany, is brilliantly revealed in these exciting epic chronicles with 120 evocative photographs of artifacts, manuscripts, and landscapes that bring the Celtic world to life as never before. Ireland, land of ancient warriors who value nothing higher than fame and courage as they battle magical forces pitted against them. Ancient warriors whose deeds are as noble and mysterious as the hill forts and standing stones scattered around the landscape. Ancient warriors whose love of exaggeration and boasting compare with the most extravagant blarney. These are the Celts revealed by the early Irish chronicles. Wales. A land of bands and druids hemmed into a beautiful, mountainous country where King Arthur roamed with his knights. The Welsh warriors saw themselves as defenders of the west, heroes who would one day hurl the foreign oppressors back into the sea. These dramatic chronicles date back to the Middle Ages, but they are truly much older than that. They tell of love and betrayal, of quests and challenges, of supernatural creatures and of murder. Battling dragons. Tyrants, and sorcerers, the warriors of Brittany were people of the sea. Hermits, missionaries, mystics, they passed down their tales of mystery and magic orally through the centuries. They are captured here from a time when the old pagan days were dying out, and the secret, supernatural skeins of the early mystical Celts were quickly attaching themselves to a new religion. CONDITION: New hardcover w/dustjacket. Unblemished except VERY slight edge and corner shelfwear to dustjacket. Pages are pristine; clean. Crisp, unmarked, unmutilated, tightly bound, unambiguously unread.

In Search of England: Journeys into The English Past by Michael Wood. DESCRIPTION: Hardback with Dust Jacket: 336 pages. Publisher: University of California ... morePress; 1999) England is the birthplace of many immortal legends told around the world: King Arthur and Camelot. The Holy Grail, Robin Hood, the mysterious Isle of Avalon. But are these famous stories based on historical events and actual people? And what do they tell us about the character and origins of the Anglo-Saxon world, a culture that helped shape American identity? In his absorbing new book, Michael Wood examines the roots of English history. Peeling back the layers of literary and oral material that have accumulated over the ages, he offers a fascinating series of rich stories; part history, part myth; that, directly or indirectly, touch on questions of English history and identity. He looks back at the legends surrounding Alfred the Great, King Athelstan, the lost library of Glastonbury, and more. Wood's emphasis is the Early Middle Ages. And the first two sections of the book offer deep excursions into particular moments in the history of that era. In addition to recounting some well-known legends, Wood considers the manuscripts and other primary sources of historical information on which they are based, assessing the validity of existing documentation, fleshing out historical contexts, and considering the treatment throughout history of these stories by famous writers, poets, and moviemakers. In the third part of"In Search of England" Wood writes about places that illuminate interesting aspects of early England: Tinsley Wood, near Sheffield, which has been claimed as the site of Athelstan's great victory against the Celts in 937; a farmhouse in Devon which has been occupied since Domesday and possibly long before; and the village of Peatling Magna in Leicestershire, scene of an extraordinary confrontation with King Henry III in 1265. These are the places and events that offer a complementary version of the history that is discuss

Sir Thomas Malory's unique and splendid version of the Arthurian legend tells an immortal story of love, adventure, chivalry, treachery, and death. The legends of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table have inspired some of the greatest works of literature; from Cervantes's Don Quixote to Tennyson's Idylls of the King. TRANSLATE Arabic Chinese French German Greek Indonesian Italian Hindi Japanese Korean Swedish Portuguese Russian Spanish The First Crusade by Steven Runciman. ... moreDESCRIPTION: Softcover: 201 pages. Publisher: Cambridge University Press; 2005) When Pope Urban II rose to his feet to address the multitudes gathered before him at the Council of Clermont in 1095 A.D. His appeal was simple: let Western Christendom march to the aid of their brethren in the East. Whether the Crusades are regarded as the most tremendous and romantic of Christian expeditions or the last of the barbarian invasions, they remain one of the most exciting and colorful adventure stories in history. The reasons for joining the Crusade varied widely; remittance from penance, a desire to see the Holy Places, or greed for the power and booty to be captured in the East. But the prize at the end of it all, be it spiritual or temporal, of the Holy City of Jerusalem. An army of mounted warriors. Traveling with peasants, merchants and artisans, faced a journey over hostile terrain, meeting with unforeseen antagonism, desert heat, and the constant struggle to feed and water their troops and horses. Their journey's spectacular culmination was the long siege of Jerusalem, at the end of which the Crusaders, by a brilliant tactical maneuver, broke down its defenses and poured into the city which erupted in a bloody massacre. Steven Runciman's"History of the Crusades" is justly acclaimed as the most complete and fascinating account of the historic journey to save the Holy Lands from the Infidel. This abridgement makes accessible to a wider readership one of the most compelling historical narratives. CONDITION: New oversized softcover. EE435 - US TONKIN GULF YACHT CLUB - Task Force 77 - US NAVY - Vietnam War Patch
US NAVY TASK FORCE 77 7th Fleet- Tonkin Gulf Yacht Excellent Piece US NAVY- Task Force 77- 7th Fleet Task Force 77 Task Force 77 first conducted limited operations over Laos in 1962. During the Vietnam War Task. Task Force 77 conducted carrier strike operations from the Gulf of Tonkin and the South China Sea and for nine years, from 1964 to 1973. Twenty-one of the Navy's 23 operational carriers made at least one cruise with the Task Force and served over 9,100 days on the line. The aircraft carriers of the Seventh Fleet's Task Force 77 played a major role in U.S. bombing operations when the war began in earnest during March 1965. The carriers and their cruiser and destroyer escorts steamed at Yankee Station in the Gulf of Tonkin and. For over a year, Dixie Station southeast of Cam Ranh Bay. The Rolling Thunder and Linebacker operations ... moreinvolved the bombing of enemy power plants, fuel and supply facilities, highway and railroad bridges, and rail lines in North Vietnam and Laos. Early in the war. Massive, multi-carrier"Alpha Strikes" were typical. In one 70-plane operation, the air wings from USS Coral Sea(CVA-43) and USS Hancock(CVA-19) struck North Vietnamese radar sites on the coast and on Bach Long Vi, Nightingale Island, in the Gulf of Tonkin. In addition to airborne search and rescue, an American submarine in the Gulf of Tonkin picked up downed flyers. As the air war went on, the naval command adopted different tactics to improve the effectiveness of the carrier strikes while minimizing losses of men and planes, such as bombing by one or two A-6 Intruders on pinpoint targets. Early in the war. The Navy's carrier squadrons were destroying two enemy fighters for every one they lost; an unacceptable win-to-loss ratio. As a result of intensive air-to-air combat training at California's Miramar Naval Air Station. The"Top Gun School, the ratio improved to 12-to-1 during air operations in 1972 and early 1973. Surface ship sailors also helped reduce the enemy's fleet of MiG intercep

New Caledonia war club, Kanak people
The distinctively shaped porowa ra maru. Or"bird head, clubs of New Caledonia were prestigious objects created for use by chiefs. The clubs symbolized wealth and high rank, and on some occasions served as gifts during ceremonial exchanges. The heads of the clubs are carved in the form of stylized bird heads typically distinguished, as here, by long, pointed beaks. However, as none of New Caledonia's indigenous birds has a similar beak, some scholars have suggested that the image instead represents the head of a sea turtle with its projecting, beaklike mouth. The thin, delicate tips of the beaks are extremely fragile and would have broken easily if the clubs were used in combat. Hence, it seems probable that they were primarily ceremonial objects this club is in a very good condition as shown on the images, no reparations, and is ... moredating from the beginning of the 20 th Century but probably older, length of it is 77cm, head meassures 26 cm long Powered by lm3vhp.RcmdId ViewItemDescV4,RlogId p4%60bo7%60jtb9%3Fuk%601d72f%2Bjw%60%3Elm3vhp-13f8a548c5b-0xf2-

Native American War Club Souviner
This war club was made for the souviner market by Woodrow Haney. Sr. 1918-1995. Woodrow William Haney. Sr. was an American Indian artist and craftsman and patriarch of a Seminole tribal family. He was a full blood Seminole/Creek Indian who earned recognition as a traditional Indian flute maker, winning awards for his work at the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee, OK and at the Indian Village Market at the Albuquerque State Fair in New Mexico. This War Club was made for retail sale through The Bear Gallery on Monkey Island near Afton, OK. The original card is still attached to the piece. Indian artisans produced hand made items for the tourist trade throughout the southwest for many years. This is a great example of that craftsmanship. War Club/Grooved Axe/Tomahawk,Indian Artifact/Relic, AR Find
Beautiful Large. Notched, Full Groove, Hard Stone Axe, This is a very fine Caddo Indian piece, which I found in the Fountain Lake Community, in Garland Co. Arkansas. It is made of a very light grey stone with blue highlights, that has a soapy feel to it. It is 6& 1/8 inches long, 3& 5/16's inches wide and 1&7/10's inches thick, it is obviously very old, very smooth, from much use. It's too heavy for my scale, but I judge it to be approximately, a pound& 1/2 to 2 pounds in weight. This Artifact has 8 or 9 small flaws, from use by Native Americans, and one large flaw, an inch and a half long, which might have been made by a farm implement. I guarantee it is authentic and will issue a COA to that effect. A super rare piece for any collection.

Early Authentic 1920's Sioux Gunstock War Club Tomahawk
From a Private North Dakota Collection. Authentic Early Circa 1920's Sioux Gunstock War Cub/ Tomahawk. This piece I believe was made from a"blank" piece of gunstock wood or simply from something else. I have acquired several pieces from a private collection of over 65 years. This club still retains some riginal paint as you can see from the pictures. It appears the original colors were red. White and black. The blade shows some wear and pitting but still tight and held in the well with a brass or copper rivet. Though this piece is crude and unlike most gunstock shaped clubs.it certainly served it's purpose. It appears there was a bead drop at one time. But tore/cut off at the stem of the hide string loop. Overall shows great patina, wear, some scars, etc. Measures 37 3/4" long and the blade measures 4 1/2" long. ... moreBe sure to check out my other pieces also listed for auction over the next couple of days. Great Find! As always. Low starting price& No Reserve! GOOD LUCK& HAPPY BIDDING! M.O. Bank Chk Accepted I WILL NOT SHIP TO AN UNCONFIRMED PAYPAL ADDRESS. I also post in the order that things are paid for. Any delays by the postal services either at my end ... moreor abroad are rarely my fault. I always post out at the latest 3 working days after receiving cleared payment but sometimes an item is slowed up by a backlog of post or delayed whilst being processed through customs. 1940's World War 2 Hi-Speed Gasoline Victory Club Album with Complete Set of 50
During World War II High Speed gasoline supported the war Effort with so called Victory Club Members and Premiums obtained from their Service Stations. One of the nicest premiums was an embossed album(first I have had) and a set of 50 Military Photos Tanks. Planes, Ships etc from all the branches of Military Service. This is a complete set of unattached photos from the blue series and the album. They are all clean and in excellent condition- not glued in the book- I scanned Nbr 2 which was a tank as an example. Wonderful gas and oil premium collectible. E-mail if you have any questions.
