The design and form is characteristic of Fiji but would not rull out The Solomon Islands or other Ocianic Island. This item would date to the mid 1800s. It hasan expanded but with crest pierced for wrist thong. The striking faces are carved on both sides in an unusual open work zig zag panels. This item showes a lovely chocolate patina throughout and you can still see some of the lime used to accent the decorative carving. Wooden supe/subi war club from the Solomon Islands(Malaita) that was brought back during WWII. 96 800x600 Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE On the islands of Malaita. Part of the larger Solomon Island chain which was inhabited over 30,000 years ago, a unique fighting club evolved—the supe or subi. This club is rhomboid in shape and terminates in a pyramidal or diamond-shaped butt. The supe was used for close combat and could deliver deep gashes and bone-crushing blows. Unlike the supe shown above. Some clubs had a long shaft upon which was wound fibers for a grip. The supe/subi club shown here is entirely hand-carved and decorated. Civil War Chess Set. This is obviously the very first of its kind produced. see letter in pic) This was from my Father's estate after he passed away. The box is marked" CW Scheid and enclosed is a letter. I'm not sure how or where he acquired it. From the looks of the price on the box I assume he purchased it from an Antique store or Thrift or Garage sale. He may have even known CW. Scheid. I just don't know. Please read the letter in the pics. CW Scheid was the Vice President of the Golf Club of California to whom this letter is addressed. The letter also mentions the former VP being Earnie Ford. I have pondered if this was a typo and meant to spell Ernie Ford( Tennessee Ernie Ford) who was an avid Golfer. I just dont have enough information to know and do not claim it to be him, but it is a possibility. The letter goes ... moreon to explain that Mr Ford called the maker of this chess set and requested a special set be created to honor members of the Golf Club of California. The letter goes on to say that CW Scheid was to get the first one. The pieces are carved with fantastic detail. I do not have a board. Well Crafted African Maasai War Club
Here for sale is a beautiful African war club. It was made from African hardwood and crafted to a piece of primitive art. This kind of war clubs was used for generations among native people of Africa and the heavy knob could cause a severe damage. There is a tiny protrude on the tip of the knob. Which could inflect a severe scratch to enemy. The condition of this club is excellent. I bought it from an estate of auction of a primitive weapon collector. Length: 18 inches. Vietnam War Viet Cong Hunting Club Souvenir Silk Jacket Embroidered Tour Uniform
Here is a beautiful silk Vietnam War Souvenir Tour Jacket that has really neat embroidery including a Tiger and Viet Cong Hunting Club on the front. Dragons down each arm, and a beautiful tiger and bamboo with the word TIGER embroidered above. This jacket for its age and being silk is in really good condition with no major damage and the zipper works perfectly but does have a small section under the right armpit that the stitches have come loose which would be easily repaired if someone wanted. Also there is a small section on the front a couple of inches long that looks to have gotten thin and come apart. The collar looks to be in great condition but if you look at the photos of the sleeve cuffs they have wear. Illustrated by W.H. Bull and Gordon Ross. 8 1/4" X 6" With 77 war poems and war jingles. With many of the poems having small drawings to illustrate. By about 15 different authors with several well known like Joaquin Miller and John Kendrick Bangs. In VG condition with all pages and tightly bound. No soiling. Stains, marks, chips or tears. No mildew or musty odor. The picture on the front board appears to be very faded with the words"War Poems 1898" at the top of the front cover still clearly read. see picture 12) The owner wrote her name on the front endpaper in light ink.
