1930's old carved wooden Tuareg bowl Tazawat from Niger An old. Decorated wooden bowl from the Tuareg people of Niger. The Tazawat milk bowl has a fine patina from use and age with multiple metal repairs. Such a milk bowl was highy prized and passed down from one generation to the next, repaired and repaired again. This Tazawat was made in the first part of the 20th Century. It has different repair elements, some even enhancing the decoration. There is a leather thong attached to a metal ring so that the bowl could be hung up with the decoration facing out during the time it is not in use. It measures 10 inches in diameter across the top and is 7 1/2 inches deep.

This is a great Tuareg emblem African trade bead necklace. Trade beads are black and metal pieces appear silver or maybe Silverplate. Back of tuareg pendant is signed by artist. Necklace features traditional'pearl' symbols of authentic older pieces. Necklace has approx. a 7.5" drop to top part of pendant. Lots of hand details. Curved and smooth lines and bead work. I believe the pendant may be silver, but not sure of content. there is not stinky Silverplate smell, but you do see gray soldering where top round oval piece is attached to other curved plate. it is not magnetic. Niger in 1968-1969. She acquired all her pieces from the local market or as gifts from the local people she worked with. The Tuareg that live north towards Agadez. Niger would come to the Madaoua market with their wares. This listing is for a unique Tuareg handmade leather amulet talisman collar that would have been around a camels neck. A thick leather woven cord is decorated with the classic green and red colors of the Tuareg. The green is leather and the red is yarn. The amulets are loose and can slide along the cord. They are like small little packets. Not know if there is anything inside(i.e. written message) ... moreor not. The collar is fastened by putting the tasseled end through the loop on the other end of the cord. Condition: Excellent condition for the age. Once the lower half of the wallet is pulled out of the decorative cover and opened up there are three compartments to hold small personal items and money. There is writing on the back of this piece. Some of the fringe on the front of the wallet is yarn. Leather is most likely from goat skin. The draw string is two leather strings tightly twirled together. Tribal leather pouch TUAREG nomad African Berber wallet, case for pipe or darts
An old leather pouch from the Tuareg nomadic tribesmen of the Western Saharan desert. It is divided into four shallow compartments. Each with its own leather"tongue" flaps which folds over the front. The edges are secured with plaited leather. The leather is decorated with coloured patterns. The patterns on the inside tongues are quite simple feather or"fletchers" designs. The patterns on the outside are more intricate. The pouch is empty. And I am not completely sure of its purpose. The fletching designs. And the general shape, suggest that it is a wallet for darts. I have seen similar pouches described as pipe wallets. The pouch is about 5 inches long. And clearly several decades old. Condition: Fairly good condition. This is clearly a vintage item which has seen a lot of use. There is no major damage. But on the outside ... moreof the case, the patterns are rubbed and the colours are hard to distinguish. Aluminum was collected from German and U.S. plane wrecks. During and after WWII, the metal was melted and re-used in the same traditional way of brass and bronze casting. Created using the lost wax method that involves creating a model in beeswax. Once completed. Wax rods are attached to it and the entire model is encased in layers of fine clay. The structure is heated and the melted wax runs out through the channels of wax rods; molten metal is poured into the mold- the mold is destroyed releasing the piece- each piece is unique and an original.
