Old Tuareg Silver Tcherot Magic Talisman Amulet-AFRICA An old Tuareg talisman. Amulet or tcherot. Made of a silver alloy, the surface is hand-incised ... morewith a traditional pattern, as well as adorned with repoussé work. Characteristic of Tuareg jewelry. The design is clean-cut; forms adhere closely to a few basic designs, and are repeated over and over in Tuareg pieces of metal work, embroidery and leatherwork. The interior of the talisman would contain a piece of paper on which were written verses from the Koran or old magic formulae known and prepared by the Marabout. Or some may even contain sand from the Sahara. The more aesthetic a tcherot or talisman would be, the greater its effectiveness and power to ward off evil- the evil eye, and to bring luck and good fortune to its wearer. Superb age and usage patina- Collected in Mali. Origin: Tuareg. Touareg ethnic group- MALI, NIGER Age: Mid to late 20th century Materials: Silver alloy Condition details: Good with age and usage patina Dimensions/Weight: 6 cm(2 3/8" long-7 cm(2 3/4" wide-33 grams(1.2oz) Inner Diam/Ring Size: N/A Item# 20215535, Click On Buttons For Extra Photos

Old Tuareg African Metal Pouch Koranic Script-Mali
Rare Tuareg Marabout's Pouch Sacred Qu'ranic Talisman Script-AFRICA An extremely rare Tuareg marabout’s sacred pouch from the region of Timbuktu. Timbuktu was an important cross-road for sub-Saharan trade of salt. Gold and spices, ivory and slaves. Also a renowned center of Islamic teaching in the 14th century, numerous Koranic schools flourished there, as did four important universities. Timbuktu became an amalgam of cultures. It was settled by the Arabs, the Tuareg as well as the Songhay, and to this day retains a rich blend of cultural backgrounds. It appears that the script is an Arabic translation of the Tuareg alphabet. Known as Tifinagh; all characters and designs are hand-incised. The container made of brass is covered with leather on its back. A metal rope design of copper and nickel highlights the front cover or flap, a ... morehinge allows fro opening and closing of the cover. The cover is secured by inserting a metal pin though the loop. The front flat is striking with the talismanic script enclosed within a curved and angular frame; three lines of cursive script fill the area above a table containing 30 square compartments. Each one filled with a magic symbol, each script on its own is significant, as is the combination of the whole, as these correspond to a letter and subsequently a number and words, and together, form a magical formula. It is believed that this pouch was intended to contain sacred writings and formulas and was intended for wear and use by the marabout or chosen spiritual leader. Beautiful and old fine metal necklace possibly Ethiopian or Tuareg - No Reserve!
I don't know too much about this necklace except that it was second-hand gift to my mother whose partner was from Zanzibar and who spent a fair bit of time in Saharan Africa and lecturered in Physics at the University of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. He would have been given or bought this item before the 1960's when he left Africa to live in Europe and the Soviet Union. It may have even belonged to his mother. Who, I believe was a Persian Princess, but I cannot say for sure from where it originated other than what I have told you here. It is exquisitely made of a strong light coloured fine metal(unsure as to what type) All I can really say about it. Is that it looks stunning and is a real talking piece to show off any woman's neckline and shoulders. If anyone knows any more about this type of jewelery. Tuareg camel caravans played the primary role in ... moretrans-Saharan trade until the mid-20th century when European trains and trucks took over. Goods that once were brought north to the edge of the Sahara are now taken to the coast by train and then shipped to Europe and beyond. Tuareg history begins in northern Africa where their presence was recorded by Herodotus. Many groups have slowly moved southward over the last 2.000 years in response to pressures from the north and the promise of a more prosperous land in the south. Today, many Tuareg live in sedentary communities in the cities bordering the Sahara that once were the great centers of trade for western Africa. Although most Tuareg now practice some degree of Islam, they are not considered Arabic. TYPE OF ART: Much Tuareg art is in the form of jewelry. Tribal African Antique Tuareg Delicate cast bronze bracelet
Unique Antique(circa mid- late 1800s) Delicate Cast Bronze Tuareg Bracelet From the old private collection. This is a rare. Museum quality authentic artifact. The item is about 2 3/2" x3" and 2 1/2 inner with 1 1/4 opening in excellent antique condition. The basic method of lost-wax casting has been widely practiced on the African continent for centuries. While it is difficult to establish how the method was developed or introduced to the region. It is clear that West African sculptors were casting brass with this method for several hundred years prior to the arrival of the first Portuguese explorers along the coast in 1484. The technique requires a great deal of skill, involving extensive knowledge of both pottery and metalworking, and a careful attention to changing temperatures to prevent unwanted cracking or other damage to ... moreeither the clay mold or to the metal sculpture during the casting process. Some of the earliest and most accomplished bronzeworks found in Africa date to the tenth century and are from a site called Igbo-Ukwu. Bronze pieces created by the lost wax method involves creating a model in beeswax. Once completed. Wax rods are attached to it and the entire model is encased in layers of fine clay. The structure is heated and the melted wax runs out through the channels or wax rods, molten metal is poured into the mold, created after wax was lost- the metal cools and hardens, the mold is broken and the piece has been created. Each piece is an original since the mold is broken after each one has been cast. Froo www.froo.com | Froo Cross Sell.
