Kerisses from the Majapahit Kingdom(13th-15 th century) are very hard to find. Specially in this large size. Modeled in the form of the mythical creature, Phi Pheu' used in shamanistic ceremonies by the Lisu hill people of northern Thailand. Hand-constructed wooden implements of this type were favored by tribal Shamans, for discretely storing herbal medicines in the hollowed-out pocket beneath the creatures back. and used during their tantric rites, to contain instruments for healing, harmonizing, and energetic work, providing protection against negetive forces and demon, and signify stability during ceremonies.
