Papua New Guinea Carved and Painted Figure Very Old
This came from a long time collector who lived a few miles from me. He passed last year and his collection was sold at a local auction. I think it's Oceania. Probably Papua New Guinea. I bought this piece because I felt that it was one of the oldest pieces there that has a wonderful patina and a really nice painted surface. It has a few age cracks and some very minor insect damage but they are long gone. Stands just under 15" high. On the bottom it says in pencil Angriman 14 Aug 1879.

Pair of Kalenaga Masks, Lower Sepik River, Papua New Guinea / Primitive Art
Collected in Papua New Guinea 20 years ago. Each mask is approximately 23" in height x 7 1/2" in width at its widest point. Kalenaga masks are extremely unusual; to find a matching pair like this is rarer still. The masks are made from hand-carved native wood. Shells, earth pigments, paint, cassowary feathers, bark fiber twine, and(presumably) sisal fiber. Each side of the mask features an elaborate and deeply carved image of a bird(or possibly of a crocodile- it's difficult to tell) Your masks will be sent out within 3(three) business days of your payment. My late Dad fought in New Guinea during WWII. He ended his service there as a member of the Australia New Guinea Administrative Unit liaising with the natives and coast watchers. He brought a few mementos back of his stay there. This bamboo comb is one of them. It is in excellent condition and measures 34.5 cms long. There is a very faint diamond pattern cut into the handle and the teeth are wired. It is not ornate but is a simple example of what it was used for. I'd like you to have a closer look at my items. Papua New Guinea Sepik Tribal Ancestor Statue Handcarved Wooden
The estate I bought this from presented it as a ancestor statue from the Sepik tribe of New Guinea. I do not know how old it is I did find sim ilar item s online like it that were pretty old. As you can tell from the pictures there are some cracks in it where the wood shrank and dried overtime and opened up. It does not set perfectly flat nor would I expect it t o. It measures about 19 inches tall and about 7 inches across. Ask any questions you might have and look at the pictures to help you determine age and condition. I only ship to the US. Tropical hardwood point with several deep barbs and decorative carving near the base. The last barb near the tip has broken off. Long and narrow, typical for long-distance fighting arrows. A MUST for every serious walking stick collector! Beautiful and old wooden carved Walking Stick. Really gorgeous and very unique. Originating in Papua New Guinea! Depicting a female figurine with shell inlayed eyes and surmounted by a snake. The snake would be the cane/ or handle. It's handpainted and really different and special. This is an old piece and shows wear and some chips- which only gives it more character. Please check out the pictures. It does have a rubber piece on the bottom. Antique Papua New Guinea Ceremonial Cowrie Shell Armband
Antique cowrie shell Papua New Guinea ceremonial dance armband. From the Sepik River area. Shells are attached/ sewn on fiber, probably made from coconut shells, and there is another, thicker reed/grass type material around the back. 6" x 8" piece is very fragile and the back. Thicker material has broken on one side; I have sewn back a few loose beads. A very nice, older ethnograhic piece to add to your collection in spite of that. Piece was bought about 10 years ago from a collector/dealer in high quality New Guinea material.
