MANGBETU STATUE THE Mangbetu (or Medje, Makere, Mangbele) are a people ofCentral Africa present in the North-East of the Democratic Republic of Congo, ... morenotably in the Orientale Province, and to a lesser degree in Uganda. The Mangbetu were known for the practice of skull deformation. They wrapped the heads of newborns in cords, before the bones consolidated, for a year, thus gently elongating their skulls. This very particular shape was considered a sign of beauty and intelligence. The origin of this practice dates back to ancient Egypt. CONGO CIRCA 1980 INTERESTING PATINA This object comes from the collection of an Ardèche agricultural engineer from Vals les Bains having spent his career in Central Africa between 1980 and 2000 Fast and careful shipping. MANGBETU SICKLE KNIFE - CHIEF TRUMBASH - AFRICAN DAGGER-SWORD

BLACKAMOOR African Princess Nubian Congo Mangbetu w/ gold hoop earrings Antique
old pin not meant to be disrespectful(in my opinion) African Princess Blacamoor jewlery This is a website where you can see the origin of the bone in hair archetype which turned into a negative but was based on an actual tribe's hairstyle I believe this pin to predate the negative stereotype and see it as meant to be a remarkable piece of jewelry celebrating a completely different culture. http:kwekudee-tripdownmemorylane.blogspot.com/2012/12/mangbetu-people-famous-fashionable-hair.html the item is gold tone with a c clasp and some white enamel as well as black and red enamel paint the best part is her large gold hoop earrings. I think this is an interesting piece and I am unsure how to list it so I hope a collector will find it as unusual as I do.
PAIR OF AFRICAN-STYLE TALL BOOKENDS - BOBO MBUTI LEGA KWELE MANGBETU TANZANIA
A appealing pair of tall. Approx. 17" African or African-style bookends acquired at an estate liquidation. Bookends are not identical(reverse or mirror images) and can be used or displayed individually. They do complement one another nicely. Though, and work perfectly, especially with XL and/or tall books that are often problematic in shelves or on desktops. The bottoms of these bookends have a cork underlayment to protect furniture surfaces and prevent slippage. They are lightweight. The pair totaling no more than 2.5 to 3 lbs. My guess is that the bookends are faux African rather than authentic African tribal pieces. But I am no expert on the subject and make no guarantees either way. One plus is that I have yet to encounter another bookend or set of bookends identical to these; I am reasonably confident that these are individually ... morehand-crafted and not mass-produced pieces. What I can state with absolute certainty is that these bookends are both pleasing to the eye and functional(they work great! Bobo, Medje/ Mangbetu. Kwele. Mbuti. Lega and Tanzanian are just a few African tribal peoples/cultures whose artwork(wood carvings. Sculptures, masks, and more) seems to gel with the look and features of these bookends. However, I can not be certain which, if any, of these specific cultures is represented by these"sitting men" bookends. Maybe YOU will take up the reins. Good luck bidding on this attractive& fun pair of African-style bookends! U.S. bidders/buyers only. Please. We do not ship internationally or overseas. Sorry.

VERY EARLY LARGE MANGBETU TERRACOTTA FIGURAL MONKEY WATER OR PALM WINE VESSEL
VERY EARLY LARGE MANGBETU TERRACOTTA FIGURAL MONKEY WATER OR PALM WINE VESSEL Description: A seriously old Mangbetu terracotta vessel for holding water or. Possibly palm wine. It is surmounted by the ferocious figure of a squatting monkey In fine physical condition with some minor surface damage and small chips. No cracks. It is covered with some kind of natural resin I'd rather not think about and there are very small traces of old red and blue paint. My assumption, and the thinking of a couple of serious Africana dealers and collectors who've seen it, is that, if it isn't 19th century, its darn close to it. It approximate measurements are 16" tall by 9" in diameter. Its a bit darker in hand than it appears in these images. Payment: Payment as per eBay instructions. Additional Information: A wonderful large standing female figure in a classic Mangbetu style of sculpture with her beautiful chignon and body decorated with typical Mangbetu markings. The Mangbetu sculptures symbolize the ideal of male or female beauty. This beauty is translated by the elongated. Wrapped head with an elaborate hairstyle(chignon) and by the geometric patterns and the body painting that are observed on the real individual in their personal appearance. Most of them portrayed existing people. Usually female figures would have a hand in front of the sexual organ and in the back. This is probably a gesture of decency from women.
