Vintage African applique textile/banner/flag made by the Fon people from Dahomey. Which in now The Republic of Benin. The ancestors of the Fon migrated to its current location in the 13th century, and in the 17th century King Houegbadja, the third traditional Dahomean monarch and often considered the dynasty's true founder, established the kingdom's capital on the Abomey plateau. There he built the first royal palaces, and initiated the kingdom's"expansionist" tradition. As in many Arfican societies, Fon culture was essentially oral: stories, dance, music, and visual arts- rather than written language- were used to pass down its royal history and exploits from generation to generation. One form was the applique textile technique on military and religious banners and flags, royal umbrellas, cult clothing, hammocks, cushion ... moretops, and the like, that recounted legends, commemorated historic battles, generally glorified the Dahomey royal dynasty and in short that recounted the"cultural memory" of the Fon people. There were specific"pictograph" images used for each king, cult object, symbols representing historic events or proverbs that culd be interpreted by a native Dahomean well versed in the tradtional history, proverbs, and literary allusions of his people. In the Fon kingdom of Dahomey(now called Benin) Elaborate and very colorful applique banners displayed the attributes of successive kings. The king was usually represented as some animal; each king had his own design. These banners are still made today, but the older ones are generally more valuable and elaborate. This is one of the larger ones. Acquired in 1973 in Cotonou, when we were living in Lagos. It is very colorful, as are all of the Fon banners; and it has retained all of its color, since it was too big to display in our home; so it is like new, even though it is some forty years old. The banner measures about 32 inches by 58 inches.

Up For Auction: Vintage Gibson HG2 With Unconverted Squareneck FON# 1939-16 This squareneck. Lap style Gibson is an absolute gem! It is marked on the center strip as a model HG-2 and the neck block reads 1939 16. This leads me to believe it is a 40's HG-2. This guitar is in incredible shape for it's age. Everything on this instrument is original with the exception of the tuners(the tuners have recently been replaced, but the vintage tuners will be included for collector and period accuracy purposes) This guitar has served me well and is truly in wonderful shape if you would like a sample of what it sounds like you are most welcome to message me and I can provide an audio sample for you. The guitar features the following: Solid Spruce top- no wood cracks. Beautiful vintage sunburst, bracing is all solid. Brazilian Rosewood bridge and ... morefingerboard- Fingerboard features flush frets for lap style playing(all original) Bone nut and saddle- both to the best of my knowledge original. Solid mahogany back and sides- no wood cracks. Bracing is solid. Squareneck- for lap style playing. Original Chipboard case with brown exterior and blue interior. New Kluson tuners for functionality(the original tuners(Kluson Deluxe) are included) Areas of note and full disclaimer: This guitar is a vintage instrument and is in very good shape for it's age however it does have wear and tear that one would expect from a near 80 year old instrument. The finish is checked and has some dings and scratches in it. But no cracks in the wood have been found. Both the lower and upper bout sides have finish wear from the case(the worst of which is noted in the pictures) the max size of this wear is no bigger than a nickel. The bridge plate is worn and will need to be plugged and redrilled, or replaced(this is on the inside of the instrument and a picture was not possible) There are some normal areas of wear on the instrument such as the peghead and back(scratches and worn areas) but nothing of major note. Gibson Tenor Banjo Believed to be made between 1922-1924 Factory Order Number: 11041A-12 Pre-WWII 10.5" Rim The banjo and case are all original and no attempt has been made towards restoration either to the banjo or the case As shown in the photos the drum head is torn and there are two strings missing. I'm not sure what they are for but there appears to be six holes in the back where the tuning knobs are. The case is in two pieces with a portion of the upper neck of the case missing. It is in rough condition. I do not know the history of this banjo prior to our acquisition.

These works are cotton banners. Some quite large, on which the symbols of the kings of Dahomey and other symbols of their political power were appliqued. The kings controlled the use and production of these works of art for the purpose of presenting themselves in splendor to the people. The banners were displayed on special occasions on rooftops, on pavilions, on large umbrellas and on hats worn by royalty. The banners were created by family guilds that specialized in textile applique. The guilds ... moremaintained vast collections of visual images that a client could specify for a banner. Mit dem WLAN-Taster auf der Geräterückseite lässt sich die WLAN-Funktion mit nur einem Knopfdruck zeitweise aus- und wieder einschalten. Der Internetzugang erfolgt über das ADSL/ADSL2+-Modem oder per Ethernet. So lässt sich die FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7141 über die Ethernet-Schnittstelle wahlweise auch an einen vorhandenen Router oder ein Netzwerk anschließen und im ATA-Modus betreiben.
