$14.98 Shipping Location: United States Antique Namji Doll Namchi Female Fertility Beaded Cameroon African Art Description: V intage Namji/Namchi beaded African doll that has been mounted on ... morean acrylic base for display. Small beads on body appear to have been strung and then cemented to body appearing very old and primitive. One of the more interesting dolls I have see in a while. Namchi(Namji) dolls. Among the Namchi people of Cameroon, unadorned dolls made by blacksmiths are played with by young children. When beads, cowrie shells, bells, coins, and other ornaments are added, however, the doll becomes a surrogate baby for a woman who is having difficulty getting pregnant. The woman treats the figure like a baby, feeding it and carrying it on her back. The Namchi/Namchi group lives in the north west of Cameroon and is famous for its geometrical carved and highly decorated dolls. The girls learn their motherly duties by playing with them. Usually they always carry the dolls around with them. Feeding them and telling them stories from the old ones before going to bed. Condition: Good condition considering previous owner has written on bottom 100+ years. Also marked on tape on base is namji doll, cameroon. There is some breakage at top of head where beads attach but otherwise in quite fine condition. Approx. Measurements: 9" including base. Made in: Cameroon. According to previous owner. Bolivian Knitted Hat This is an original fine hand knitted home made Bolivian tribal hat. As an ethnic textile it is extremely fine. Knitted with ultra slender needles there are literally hundreds of stitches to the square inch. Made by traditional methods. This item dates from the early 1970's. Unfortunately Bolivians have small heads and so this hat is either for a child or is in itself a fine collectible that would make a wonderful decorative curio. There is a huge amount of work in each hat. This has been made for the home market and is not a tourist produced item. This listing is for a Pair of Vintage African/ Oceanic( More so Oceanic than African) Sculptures of Seated men in Crouched position holding their heads with their hands. Each carved out of one piece of wood and very good carvings with faces and bodies full of character. The hair embellishment seems to be a mix of some kind of hair together with some fiber which is dry and brittle? 18 inches tallest with each carving part 11 1/2 inches to 12 inches in height. 2 5/8 inches by 2 3/4 inches by 2 1/2 inches; 2 3/4 inches at base respectively. Each having a few very minor scuffs and one having minor bruise at right shoulder back and lower right. Both of which can be easily remedied to invisible. A nice addition to your wood carving. Here is a lovely medium sized Primitive Bowl. Or ART pottery, with wonderful, earthy designs, painted onto the red clay. It appears to have been fired and there is a signature, and some writing on the flat bottom. It appears to read" Venezuela" although it has been scratched onto the surface, while the clay was still wet, and is not easy to read. It may refer to the name of the Artist, or potter, or the origin of where it was made. Wonderful small designs, and spirals are painted in a neat pattern all over the surface, onto the white paint. It measures over 7 inches in height, and there is a tiny bit of jagged cracks visible around the top rim. But does not deter from its overall beauty. Malaysian ? baby cap hand embroidered trapunto antique ethnographic bef, 1900
This baby cap was in the estate of a woman who was a missionary at Malacca in Malaysia from 1900-1903. She traveled while she was there. And brought back souvenirs from many places. It is trapunto embroidered or stitched with an amazing number of stitches, creating raised all over the cap. There are red, dark blue or black and beige(probably once green) designs in three bands around the cap. At the lower edge are rick-rack-like trim in black, red and white. There is a dark discolored band above the black border that is from the cloth inside the cap there, bleeding through. At the top of the cap, there is red bleed that must be from something inside the cloth. There are little red stitches along there and even some fairly bright green stitches at the crown seam. I wonder if there was once a red and green decorative band around the crown seam. ... moreIt is 5" tall and 6.5" in diameter at the bottom. I took this cap to an ethnographic antique show last year and showed it around. No one had seen one like it, but thought it had designs that might be Islamic. When I told them the woman had been a missionary in Malaysia, they thought that made sense.

Nice old vintage Montol figurine. Upside down it looks like a slingshot. It is in very nice shape and stands about 8 inches tall. There are some splits in the wood but the figure is all intact. Well detailed and precise map. The most interesting feature distinquishing this map from all others is the emphasis upon precise locations of Christian Missionary stations for the area covered. Printed on nice period paper as issued which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. In near VG[or better] condition: displays normal light uniform age toning as typical.
