this is a beautiful old lidded basket of unknown origin. I would say that it is antique. By the soft patina and construction and wear, and appears to have been dyed using natural& organic dyes. It is in very nice condition but has some wear. a few of the sections of weave have worn away over the years but it is very much intact and strongly constructed. beyond that, I cannot say more. It would be a very strong decorator piece at the very least, and may be something more to someone more knowledgeable than myself. AS IS. NO RESERVE.

Up for your consideration is an antique photograph of two Great Plains tipis. One of which is adorned in the then popular, but now controversial whirling log symbol. Measurements: 4.5 inches wide. 2.75 inches high. The Whirling Log symbol is associated with a narrative involving a man(sometimes called the Culture Hero) who takes a journey down the San Juan River in a hollowed out log canoe. During his adventure. He encounters whirlpools and a special event where the San Juan River meets the Colorado River. There he comes upon a whirling cross with seated on the cross. From the yeis he learns much knowledge which he takes back to his people. Until the late 1800s. When J. Lorenzo Hubbell and J.B. Moore opened their trading posts in Arizona and New Mexico, Navajos portrayed the swastika solely in their religious ceremonies in the form of sand ... morepaintings. But by 1896, with prodding by Hubbell and Moore, the symbol proliferated on Navajo rugs, and then later on other pieces of Navajo art. In 1940. Vintage Native American Pima/Yokut?? Coiled Basket Indian 1900's Antique
Vintage Native American coiled basket. The basket is approx. 10 to 10 1/2 inches wide at the top( not perfectly round) And 5 1/2 inches tall. The design has color fade, but was never real dark originally( see the photo of the bottom) There is virtually no damage visible of the stitching being broken or torn. The basket appears to be in remarkable condition for its age. When held up to the light, the weave is still tight and constant allowing little light thru. This basket came from a well known artifact collection in Arizona, but that is all that is known about it. It does not have real fancy designs, so it was probably not made for tourist trade. Antique Native American Beaded Bag, Iroquois-Mohawk (about 1895-1915)
This bag was in my Grandparents' collection. They were born in the 1880's and lived until the 1960's. They were born in Minnesota and lived mostly in MN. Settling in Northern MN in 1915, but Grandpa also was in ND, Montana in the early 1900's. To the best of my knowledge and what I have researched and seen in Museums it is Iroquois-Mohawk. From an expert, Delores Elliott, who sent me an internet site that explained this type of work, I also think it is Iroquois, Mohawk, one of the 6 nations of Iroquois. The bright pink color fabric was used from 1895 to 1915. Check the internet site: www.nysm.nyseed.gov(publication by Delores Elliott"Iroquois Beadwork" Chapter 4. You could also check Iroquois Beadwork on goggle. Look closely at the pictures and you will see that it is beautifully beaded. But some of the beads that ... morehang down are loose. The beads on the main part of the bag seem to be intact. I think the beads are glass. The main bag is 4 1/2" tall and 4 1/2" wide. The bottom is 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" The hanging beads are 3" long and turned back up and reattached. The fabric stitching is loose on on side at the top, but the fabric doesn't seem to have holes in it. The fabric shows a little wear on the top edge where it attaches to the bag. I am not sure what the fabric is, but it reminds me of my Grandmother's 1914 wedding dress, which was made of silk.

Animal hide hand stitched with gut. Glass beadwork decoration on the top, I thought this might be an old sewing pin cushion. I noticed the few broken stitches around the top. And I could feel something hard inside. What I found was a tooth tied in. I do not know what this is called or what this piece was used for. Maybe a medicine man thing. If someone identifies what this is please email me. The age and wear is evident. The glass seed beads may be dated by size and maybe color. And the 3'leaf' design likely has some significance. I know nothing about this great old old basket.Other than i purchased it at an auction of an old one family owned farm.They owned the farm for 160 years.Barns and sheds were packed full tons of old stuff.For some reason this was never thrown out as trash but repaired over the years and stashed away.The pattern seems to be native american in design.Not sure it is faded if the coloring is in fact natural dyes.It is a larger basket 8 inches tall with the widest part being around 12 inches rim is 10 inches.Torn and worn but still shows and looks great.Look it over and tell me what it is so we all can know.Sold as is.

This Indian relic from 100 plus years ago is a partial stone hammer that many many years ago over time was split in half vertically. Around the center it has been chipped out so a leather thong could be wrapped around it and attached to a wood handle. At the top and bottom some of the rock has chipped away. We have photoed this item from all angles. So. Please see photos. Vertically it is 5” high by 3 ¼” across the back center. It weighs right at 2 lbs. FLIGHT OF THE BUTTERFLIES" RUG My favorite rug. It's called Flight of the Butterflies because of the multitude of small butterflies woven into larger X shaped designs throughout the piece. The Navajo made butterflies in the shape of double triangles. This one has red and black butterflies. It's a great. Collectible piece. It has been photographed on both sides, so you can see everything with the zoom feature, in detail. Awesome antique Navajo rug. This is a hand woven wool rug. With rare butterfly design, sometimes called a saddle blanket. It came from an estate in Arizona. Considering that this is homespun wool, made in about 1890-1910, it's in great condition for it's age. The collector who had this, kept it hung on the wall, so it was never walked on. There are several breaks in the side selvage, but it doesn't ... morebother me because that's one of the ways I can tell it's an authentic, old real Navajo piece. The other way is the diagonal lazy lines found inside the weaving. It has a few tiny spots but nothing to detract from the original beauty of the piece. Color scheme is dark chocolate, rich red, gray, light tan. The brownish grey wool is achieved not by die, but by mixing wool from a white and black sheep together, which the Navajo were clever about. This measures about 26" by 52 inches long. And it's a relic. The weave is good. Real homespun wool. This is a real antique and you can't get these anymore for under $1,000& many in the condition that this one is in go more in the $5,000 range in Southwestern galleries. William Randolph Hurst bought several hundred of these during the Roaring 20s, other rich collectors have also stock piled them. I only got my hands on this one because I knew the people who owned the estate. Color scheme is desert style, bold, beautiful. Classic Native American Indian color scheme. A good. Rare find. Beautiful Handmade Antique Native American Indian Navajo Rug Unique!
Here's a beautiful old handmade native American Indian rug. The darker brown border is complimented by a variety of earthy tan. Reddish brown, and light brown colors. The weaving shows abstract geometric designs, faces and people. I've highlighted some of the parts of the rug in the photos. It's extraordinary work. The rug itself is a good size, measuring 42 1/2" by 72" I bought the rug from a close friend a number of years ago. I have not placed the rug on the floor, it has been well stored for protection. The rug was purchased at a sale from an estate in Camden Maine. I was told the elderly couple that owned the rug had once traveled the country. This must have been one of their finds during one of those trips. I know the rug is old. I really don't know just how old it is. I am also taking a guess as to the origin ... morebeing Navajo. Some loss of coiling reveals the construction to be thinly spliced red cedar. The age and patina of this basket is a nice warm rich red brown. The wrapping is also red cedar since they are the same color as the internal coil. The handsome zigzag decoration is typical of Salish. This is an old Hair-pipe Native American choker with a thick abalone disc and early beads. The beads would date this to the late 1800's early 1900's. The ties appear to be thin sinew strips that were waxed or treated to make them strong yet pliable. The spacers are made from hide. 13 3/4 in length of 4 strand choker body. In excellent shape for it's age. Bone is discolored as shown and the handiwork is primitive- a great hard to find Native American item.

Velvet, homespun and linen. The moccasins are worked with European glass beads in an Iroquois design, surrounded by shell seed beads on the foot and ankle. It is somewhat rare to see these in adult size, they were mostly made for children and sold to tourists. These are approximately 9 1/2" toe to heel. See photos for the best overall description. Admittedly, the moccasins themselves are in disreputable condition- one has even separated from its ankle wrap, but the main beadwork design is still quite nice and perhaps can be salvaged for restoration of other pieces or even framed for their interest alone. I am no expert, but I believe this is a Pomo, old Pima/ old Papago Southwest basket. It is a negative(black background) pattern of devils claw(black) and willow with a yucca foundation. A rare color pattern as most are light backgrounds. Wonderful old patina with at least 3 colours. Measures approx. 9 inches in diameter and 4 1/4 inches in height.
